I'm going to get better at posting I promise. I really appreciate everyone who commented on my last post with encouragement - you don't know how much that means to me!!!!
Yesterday I had my final portfolio assessment where I had to do live coding, a type of quiz and an overall walkthrough of my project. I didn't have a panic moment until an hour before where I was thinking "I'm not going to do well. I should cancel and reschedule" because my anxiety likes to come out at the worst possible times. When anxiety gets to you, what do you do? I live in a constant ball of anxiety and of course I am treated by doctors so it's as controlled as it can be. So yesterday I decided to not study anymore and I began to play Kingdom Hearts 3(which is amazing I am nowhere near done!) to pass the time and focus on something else other than the assessment. What do you know, it worked! I saw the time and it was 10 minutes before. Stomach began to flip out and I was worried I missed a requirement but I let myself sit in the anxiety. Thankfully the instructor is someone I have a personal relationship with so I kept assuring myself that she was going to be super nice and lovely, which she was. The time came and I jumped right in.
I had to guess when something would display in the console in what order regarding my submit button. Now, not to get too lengthly but I've been living with learning disabilities all my life and test anxiety so this part I thought I would do the worst at....Boy, was I wrong! I got all but one right and she told me that everyone gets the last one wrong but that most students don't get as many as I did right. That blew my mind and in that moment I realized I've really learned a lot in the past year and I'm looking forward to landing my first dev job to test my skills!!!
Live coding went better than I expected as I made a counter component and it was functional! The part I struggled with was explaining some concepts so she asked me to write a blog post regarding them. That is what I'm working on after I submit this so you'll see two blog posts from me today :)
Anyway, I tend to share a lot about myself so I know it's not for everyone but I wanted to share this story with you in case someone is like myself thinking that they are never going to get to their goal - YOU CAN DO IT.
