In my opinion and from my experience, the zone is something you should avoid. You should take breaks regularly. You should also communicate with your colleagues and not refuse to answer thier questions. After all, the code you will produce while in the zone will be the worst code you ever wrote; because you are doing things that your mind is not really aware of. Moreover, your mind will not be able to exit the zone as quick as you think and you will keep thinking about the code you are writing until you sleep and even in your dreams.
