That's absolutely fair enough, and I agree that not all issues are of the same severity. I do feel, though, that not every person is necessarily in a position to help fix the most severe problems with society, and rather than do nothing it would be best to try and resolve the problems we can make a difference with.
Also, something that to one person might seem petty to another can be quite something else.
