Our 3rd day of work started with a setback. I had decided to withdraw from the GFTW project due to an upcoming job interview, I was feeling overwhelmed with everything that was going on in my personal life. I had to be honest and tell Bernard about this difficult decision of leaving our project behind, so I reached out and let him know about my status.
Fortunately, Bernard is such a patient and understanding guy that he was completely supportive and told me I could withdraw if I had to, but said I was welcome to stay and assist with smaller tasks. The convo went like this:
me: “I don’t want to hold you down because of my schedule, lately I’ve been busier and I don’t think I can contribute much because of my skill level”
@bernardbaker : “You wouldn't be, don't think of it like that. We got into this together and your participation matters. Just because of your schedule, you don't have to leave. I can work on it. Pair up when you can. I'll work through the tasks and you can watch and help.”
How cool is this guy? Not everyone would be this caring right? So I decided to stay and take care of documentation instead. We’ve been working hard and trying to finish our project on time, with one day left we still have a few things to tackle but we are happy with our progress.

I think this is a message to everybody. A hackathon isn't just about coding 🤸.
That's true Robert, the money doesn't matter. The value of participation and collaboration is great. But winning feels good too.
