This is a submission for the 2025 New Year Writing challenge: Predicting 2025.
Another year has passed while working in dev/tech and while looking back from my own past-years resolutions, I am beginning to wonder if there is anything else that hasn't been invented or applicable in the tech world.
As pessimistic this may sound, I believe that it is marginally true since there have been concepts and technologies invented (even standardized) such as Quantum Computing, Quantum-level encryption, 6G cell networks etc. that won't be applicable to the broader public for the next 5-6 years or so.
By the time an average software engineer or tech person takes to adjust to change, something new pops up to cancel or contradict with what they already know.
On the other-hand, standardization techniques and software paradigms of every technology stack usually guarantee minimal amount of effort and maximum impact per product. Even with the usage of A.I. everything seems futile in making something innovative. I get the feeling that software technologies have reached a point of saturation where even with A.I. usage it will eventually end up re-inventing the same concept.
In the end, software might end-up producing more unnecessary work instead of adding something useful to the tech world.
What do I expect in 2025? An even wider spread of A.I. Why? Because it works well in business marketing. Is a cool concept and attracts investors faster than bees swarm over a bee hive. Sweet as it may sound, is also very costly thus concluding to my final list of what should be expected in '25.
I expect that in the next 3 years:
- Everyone be excited with A.I. and talking about it, but no one still fully understands it.
- 6 out of 7 applications will have some obscure LLM or Generative Art parts for added flair and to draw more attention.
- Most websites will be self-generated and maintained by A.I based automation.
The funny side of this, is that some tech people will not realize this sort of innovation happens and either:
A) End-up working their ((@))sses off keeping busy while reinventing the wheel and not knowing it.
Or..
B) Will just lay back pressing buttons - shaping the future while getting paid for not-doing instead of doing.
Which side will you choose? Do use A.I as a replacement for everything, see what happens. :-)
