Discord Lite (Again)!

Discord Lite

A Light-Weight Discord Client written in Python, with love.

What even is Discord Lite?

As the name suggests, it's a lighter version of Discord, the OG Discord Client is bloated, being built upon electron, it takes up to 2.8 percent of your CPU usage, while Lite takes up 0-1 percent of CPU usage!

It also runs on 5-15 MB of Memory!

Tools and packages used to make this

Installation

The installation can be done in two ways:

  1. Install the pre-built binaries from GitHub using this link.

  2. Compile the binary yourself using pyinstaller!
Install the DiscordLite.py file from the GitHub Repo under the src directory, install the icon.ico file too.

Open Powershell in the directory where both the python file and the .ico file are present and type in the following command after installing pyinstaller and pywebview using pip.

pyinstaller --onefile -w --icon=icon.ico DiscordLite.py
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Powershell to compile binary

Double click the binary made in the dist folder and enjoy using Discord Lite!

Safety

  1. Why is the exe flagged unsafe by my browser and Windows Defender?
A: The binary is an unsigned executable, I am supposed to pay some money to Microsoft to get a safety certificate for it, since this is an open source project, I cannot afford a certificate at the moment, if you still do not trust the binary to be safe, you can always compile from source :)

  2. Does it steal my data?
A: In no way does Discord Lite steal your data, it simply is a web rendering of the Discord Website on a skeletal browser.

Roadmap

Currently all major Discord functions seem to work.

Additional features support:

  1. Chrome extensions
  2. Copy, Paste using mouse

Support for older Windows version, Development boards like the Raspberry Pi and other OS (MacOS and Linux mainly), and finally 32 bit support.

Hello ! πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Maybe a code example would be cooler to show in your article so that we understand better the use and why it would be good to use it πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜„
