How to Install Interface Loopback (TAP) on Ubuntu

The loopback interface is a virtual interface on Linux, which allows us to connect to the GNS3 network simulator.

In the following I will explain how to install and configure the TAP Interface on the Linux operating system.

First you should install uml-utilities by typing the command:

 sudo apt install uml-utilities
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Next step create a virtual interface then assign an IP Address to the interface by typing the command:

sudo tunctl -t tap10
sudo ifconfig tap10 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The last check whether the IP address has been successfully added using

ifconfig tap10
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode
