Well, Christmas is almost here and it's the time of the year where we can shutdown our laptops and smartphones, shutdown our work-related thoughts and focus on reading a good old-fashioned book (or an ebook on your Kindle, your choice).
A good book could be a very good present — for the right person — so here is my question:
What book — you read in 2018 — would you give as a gift and why?
Let me start:
This bestseller from Cal Newport has been advised a lot on the dev.to community — and for the right reason. The author argues that work can be categorized as shallow or deep.
Deep work is the real deal in today's world because it produces innovative and valuable outputs while shallow work is repetitive and everyone can do it.
The author then proceeds to explain some techniques to cultivate deep work, with some examples from famous people and himself.
It has been a great reading and I would give it as a present to everyone I know because it opens your mind about how we see and execute work today, and the many challenges we encounter in order to achieve valuable results.
