NORM.INV Function – Description:

  • This function returns the inverse of the normal distribution for the specified mean and standard deviation.
  • You can find the mean using the AVERAGE Function and find the standard deviation using the STDEV Function.

Syntax:

=NORM.INV(probability,mean, standard_dev)

Arguments Explanation:

*Probability – * It is the probability corresponding to a normal distribution.

Mean – The arithmetic mean of the distribution.

*Standard_dev – * It is the standard deviation of the distribution.

Note:

  • If any argument is non-numeric values such as letters or special characters , then it returns#VALUE! Error.
  • If the probability is less than or equal to 0 or greater than or equal to 1 , then this function returns #NUM! Error.
  • If standard_dev is less than or equal to 0 , then it returns #NUM! Error.

Examples:

Let’s see some examples to understand this concept quickly.

Example 1:

  • In the below screenshot, you can see the input probability values in Column B, and its mean value is given in Cell F3 , the standard deviation value is printed in Cell F4.

Example 2:

  • If any argument is non-numeric values such as letters or special characters , then it returns#VALUE! Error.
