For the DEV Weekend Challenge: Dog Days Edition, I built a small but meaningful web app to turn everyday puppy care into something you can actually track, revisit, and enjoy.

❤️ The Problem

Taking care of a dog involves dozens of tiny moments:

🐕 A morning walk
🍖 Mealtime
🎾 Playtime
💧 Water breaks
🛁 Grooming
😴 Nap time
😊 And, of course, their mood

But those little moments are easy to forget.

So I asked:

«Why not make a simple digital diary for them?»

That idea became Dog Days Tracker.

🐾 What I Built

Dog Days Tracker lets you create a profile for your pup and record what happened during their day.

🐶 1. Personal Dog Profile

Give your pup their own identity:

🐶 Choose an avatar
✏️ Enter their name
🎂 Add their age
🐕 Add their breed

It's a tiny detail, but it makes the app feel like your dog's app, not just another tracker.

😊 2. Daily Mood Tracking

How is your pup feeling today?

😄 Happy
🤩 Excited
😌 Calm
😴 Tired
🤒 Sick

Instead of reducing a day to numbers, the app also captures the emotion behind the day.

🐕 3. Six Daily Activities

Track the things that matter:

Each activity has a simple + / − counter, keeping the experience fast enough to use every day.

📝 4. Daily Notes

Numbers don't tell the whole story.

That's why Dog Days Tracker also includes Today's Notes.

You can capture the little things:

Or:

Those memories can become just as valuable as the statistics.

Consistency deserves a little celebration.

The app keeps track of your tracking streak so that taking care of your pup can become a small daily habit.

Day 1 → Day 2 → Day 3 → 🔥

It's a tiny bit of gamification, but it makes opening the app again tomorrow more rewarding.

💾 7. No Account. No Backend. No Problem.

One of my favorite parts of this project is its simplicity.

Your data is stored locally in the browser using Local Storage.

That means:

🚫 No backend
🚫 No database
🚫 No login
🚫 No complicated setup

Just open the app and start tracking.

💻 A Peek at the Code

The app revolves around a simple state-driven approach.

For example, an activity can be updated with JavaScript:

The idea is simple:

Change the data → save it → update the interface.

That's one of the things I enjoyed most while building this project: seeing a small amount of JavaScript turn simple buttons into a persistent daily tracker.

I didn't want to build another dashboard filled with numbers.

I wanted something that felt:

The goal was to make tracking feel less like filling out a spreadsheet...

…and more like keeping a diary for your best friend.

Local Storage means your existing data stays available in the browser.

You don't need a data science degree to understand your dog's week.

The emojis, avatars, moods and paw-themed UI are there to make the experience feel alive.

The current version focuses on the core tracking experience, but there are plenty of directions this could grow.

I didn't have a fancy development setup.

I built it on an Android phone. 📱

That forced me to keep the project lightweight, simple and focused.

And honestly?

That constraint became part of the challenge.

«You don't always need powerful hardware to build something meaningful.»

Sometimes you just need an idea, a browser, and the willingness to keep building.

I'm Arshad — an 18-year-old self-taught developer
from Kudal, Maharashtra. I have no laptop.

a theme for me — it's my culture, my comfort,

A Developer With No Laptop — Just a Phone and a Dream

I'm Arshad, a self-taught 18-year-old developer from Kudal, Maharashtra, India.
I have no laptop. Every single line of code, every bug fix, every deployment —
done entirely on Android. No excuses, just solutions.

Here are two real bug stories from my projects.

🐍 Project 1: Python Learner App

What is it?

A web-based Python learning platform for absolute beginners —
built with React, TypeScript, and Vite on Replit using AI assistance.

The Bugs 🐛

Bug #1 — Certificate Given Without Course Completion

The biggest embarrassment: users were receiving completion certificates
without finishing the course. The certificate logic wasn't checking
lesson completion status at all.

Fix: I identified that the certificate trigger had no validation gate.
After prompting the AI to add a completion check — the certificate now
only unlocks after every lesson is marked complete. Earned, not gifted.

Bug #2 — Dashboard Showing Lessons as Incomplete After Finishing

Even after a user finished a lesson, the dashboard still showed it as
incomplete. Progress tracking was broken.

Fix: The lesson state wasn't being saved properly to the database.
After debugging the state management logic, lessons now correctly
update and persist as "completed."

Bug #3 — Leaderboard Not Working

The leaderboard showed no data — it was completely non-functional.

Fix: The leaderboard data fetching logic had an error in how scores
were being read. After fixing the query, the leaderboard now displays
real user rankings properly.

🏎️ Project 2: Nitro Rush Revamped

What is it?

A 3D browser racing game built with Three.js and WebGL —
playable directly in your mobile browser. No install needed.

The Bugs 🐛

Bug #1 — Only One Vehicle Available

Originally, players could only race with one car. No variety,
no choice, no fun.

Fix: Using AI-assisted prompting on Lovable, I expanded the
vehicle garage to include: Sports Car, Superbike, Rickshaw,
City Bus, Truck, and Hauler. Six vehicles. Each with a different feel.

Bug #2 — No Brakes! Vehicle Speed Couldn't Be Reduced

This was game-breaking. Players had Nitro boost and a joystick —
but zero braking ability. Once you speed up, you couldn't slow down.
Players kept crashing and losing. Unplayable at higher speeds.

Fix: I wrote a detailed prompt using ChatGPT first, then pasted it
into Lovable. It implemented a brake mechanic that gradually reduces
vehicle acceleration — giving players real speed control for the first time.

Bug #3 — Static, Repetitive Track

The same road environment repeated endlessly. No progression, no excitement.

Fix: Every 1000 meters, a new and different street environment
now loads — keeping the race feeling fresh and adventurous.

What I Learned

These weren't just code bugs — they were experience bugs.
A certificate that anyone could get meant nothing.
A racing game with no brakes wasn't a game at all.

Fixing bugs isn't just about making code work.
It's about making the experience work.

And yes — I did all of this on a phone. 📱

Everyone assumes you need a laptop to code. I don't have one. I built a full React app using only my Android phone — and deployed it live on the internet.

Here's exactly how I did it.

I'm Arshad Ansari, an 18-year-old aspiring software engineer from a small village in Maharashtra, India. I scored 98.46 percentile in MHT-CET 2026. I have no laptop, no PC — just an Android phone and a strong desire to learn.
