LAN Orangutan Self-hosted network discovery for homelabbers v3.0.1 is out

🦧 LAN Orangutan v3.0.1 is out. 🎉

For anyone who missed it, LAN Orangutan is our self-hosted network discovery tool for homelabbers. Scan your networks, discover devices, label and track them, all from a clean web UI or CLI. Single Go binary. Scanning uses nmap (installed automatically with the .deb/.rpm/.apk packages).

This release started with a bug report: the "Scan All" button was failing with an HTTP 400 and discovering nothing. We fixed that, then kept going.

What's new in 3.0.1:

Scan All works again, across every detected network.

Live scan progress. Scans now run in the background, so the dashboard stays responsive and long scans won't time out. You can see which network is being scanned, and cancel any time, with a time estimate based on how long previous scans took.

Automatic Tailscale discovery. Your tailnet peers now show up in the device list with their hostname and OS. Tailscale puts every node on its own address, so there's no subnet to sweep. We read the peers straight from Tailscale instead, which is faster and needs no elevated privileges.

Plus a handful of fixes: Tailscale no longer reports "Connected" when it's actually stopped, and it's now detected correctly even when you're running other VPNs.

Grab it for Linux, macOS, or Windows. Prebuilt binaries plus .deb, .rpm, and .apk packages, all on the releases page:

Feedback and issues welcome. This one came from a user report, and that's exactly how it should work.
