A small JSON schema for more repeatable text-to-3D prompts

When a team generates early 3D concepts from text, the prompt quickly becomes an informal specification. The problem is that informal specifications drift: one attempt changes the material, the next changes the silhouette, and a third adds a camera instruction. It becomes hard to tell which change helped.

A small structured brief can make the experiment more repeatable. It does not replace the model's prompt box; it gives you a consistent way to compose what goes into that box.

  Define the brief

{
  "subject": "desk lamp",
  "silhouette": "compact shade with a short articulated arm",
  "material": "brushed aluminum",
  "style": "low-poly product concept",
  "view": "three-quarter view",
  "constraints": [
    "single object",
    "clear separation between arm and shade"
  ]
}

The required fields are the subject and silhouette. Material, style, view, and constraints can be optional, but keeping their meanings stable makes comparisons easier.

  Compose a prompt deterministically

function buildPrompt(brief) {
  const parts = [
    brief.subject,
    brief.silhouette,
    brief.material && `material: ${brief.material}`,
    brief.style && `style: ${brief.style}`,
    brief.view && `view: ${brief.view}`,
    ...(brief.constraints || []).map((item) => `constraint: ${item}`),
  ];

  return parts.filter(Boolean).join("; ");
}

This is intentionally simple. The useful property is that every iteration is traceable: if the output has a weak silhouette, change the silhouette field without quietly changing everything else. Store the brief alongside the generated result and note what worked.

  Treat images as another input type

An image-to-3D path benefits from the same discipline. Keep one subject prominent, minimize background clutter, and record the view and the aspects of the reference you want to preserve. If your workflow supports both text and image input, the structured brief can travel with either route.

For a browser-based place to test text-to-3D and image-to-3D ideas, 3D Design AI provides both starting paths. The schema above is a workflow suggestion, not a claim that the site accepts this JSON directly.

  Review the model, not just the thumbnail

Before selecting a concept, check whether thin parts remain distinct, whether the proportions survive a different viewing angle, and whether the object fits its intended scene. A prompt is successful when the resulting model supports the next design decision—not merely when its first image looks attractive.
