Hey, I'm Mel Jones, I'm an Aussie based in Berlin and I'm a Frontend Developer. I'm currently job hunting and to be honest Technical Interviews scare the s#!t out of me. I don't have a CS degree and my journey into code has been the self-learner one. I have been coding for about 2 years now.

Before becoming a frontender I was a bartender & retail manager and I got into frontend because I care about people, teamwork, building systems, self-learning and I find Tech to be super inspiring!

I also got into tech because I believe that "diversity unlocks innovation by creating an environment where “outside the box” ideas are heard". Tech is all around us these days and I hope to inspire more folks to skill up and move into this incredible industry.

🤯 Let's try to reduce some Technical Interview stress!

For everyone in Tech, something that can help reduce anxiety around Technical Interviews is improving our computational & communication skills. Being able to talk confidently about code requires lots of practice and I find that learning in public helps me stay motivated and accountable.

🏋️ What is the "Wednesday JavaScript Challenge"?

I started a community initiative that encourages people with all levels of experience to practice writing code AND most importantly, explain their thought process and decisions.

I will run the "Wednesday JavaScript Challenge" for the month of February and you can read more about it here.

The goal is to get more people thinking and talking about the code they write and I encourage you to join us!

🤗 An Invitation

This post, however, is an invitation to a Zoom call we are hosting today (Tuesday), to discuss last weeks challenge.

I was very happy when Raffaele Pizzari, the founder of CodeJourneys, helped take the challenge a step further. Encouraging me to start a GitHub Repo, practice TDD, and promote the initiative. He suggested a 'Round Table' where we could meet and discuss our code.

Today Tuesday 09/02/2021 at 18:30 CET CodeJourneys will open up a safe space and give us the opportunity to practice talking about our solutions.

👂 What is the purpose of the Round Table?

We would like you to think of it as a listening circle and we will take in turns explaining the code we wrote. The other participants' role will be to listen and take notes.

We will learn by listening to other peoples' approaches. We will empower them to generate their own solutions and we will listen openly. If the speaker wants feedback they are welcome to ask for it, but they don't have to.

Together we will support one another, we will focus on improving our computational skills and we will practice communicating our code.

Anyone who just wants to listen is also welcome. No matter how much experience you have, everyone is very welcome! Thanks to all who have participated so far, it's been very fun learning with you!
