Menu Translator

What I Built

Local Menu Translator is an AI-powered application that helps people understand restaurant menus in their preferred language. Unlike generic translators, it focuses on local dishes, regional ingredients, cooking methods, and cultural meanings to provide more accurate and meaningful translations.

It helps tourists and local customers explore unfamiliar dishes, understand what they are ordering, and discover local food with confidence.

How I Built It

The application uses an open-weight AI model to translate menu items while preserving their original names and explaining regional ingredients and preparation methods. Users can enter menu text or upload a menu image to receive translations and simple dish descriptions.

Why Open Innovation Matters

Open-source AI makes the application flexible and customizable for different regional cuisines and languages. It allows the translation system to be adapted to local restaurant menus instead of relying entirely on generic translation services. With local inference, the application can also explore privacy-friendly and offline translation capabilities, making it useful for travelers with limited internet access.

The goal is to make local food more accessible and help people discover authentic regional cuisine without language barriers.

Smart Garden Planner

What I Built

AI Garden Planner is a smart gardening application that helps users decide what to plant based on their location, local weather conditions, and seasonal growing patterns. Users can view their location on a map, check the current date and weather forecast, and receive personalized planting recommendations and gardening tasks for the week.

The goal is to make gardening easier for beginners and encourage people to spend less time on screens and more time outdoors.

How I Built It

The application uses React and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, Node.js and Express for the backend, and PostgreSQL for data storage. Leaflet and OpenStreetMap provide location visualization, while weather data helps determine suitable growing conditions.

An open-weight AI model will power personalized planting recommendations, explaining what to plant and how to care for it. The project aims to support offline access to saved gardening plans so users can follow their recommendations even when they are outside without an internet connection.

Why Open Innovation Matters

Open-source AI makes the project more flexible, customizable, and accessible. Using open-weight models provides the freedom to experiment with different models, customize gardening recommendations, and explore local inference without depending entirely on proprietary AI APIs.

My goal is to build a practical tool that connects technology with nature and makes gardening more accessible to everyone.

I'm a student passionate about software development, artificial intelligence, and building practical projects.

Recently, I've been exploring different technologies, improving my programming skills, and working on projects that help me apply what I learn. I'm particularly interested in AI/ML, web development, and open-source technologies.

I joined the DEV Community to learn from other developers, share my experiences, and connect with people who enjoy building innovative solutions.

I'm looking forward to learning, contributing, and sharing more of my development journey here.
