If you've ever spent hours manually painting mattes frame-by-frame in Blender's
compositor, you already know rotoscoping is one of the most tedious parts of VFX
work. AI Roto, a new Blender addon, is built to kill that grind.

 The Problem

Rotoscoping — isolating a subject from its background across a video sequence —
is essential for compositing, but doing it by hand means tracking edges frame by
frame. For a 10-second clip at 24fps, that's 240 frames of manual mask work.
Most artists either pay for expensive standalone roto software or eat the time cost.

 What AI Roto Does

AI Roto works entirely offline inside Blender and automatically generates and
tracks masks for your subject across an image sequence. No cloud processing,
no subscription pinging a server — it runs locally.

Core features:

Subject selection — click your subject once instead of tracing it

Foreground/background points — left-click adds positive points, right-click
adds negative points, so you can refine exactly what gets included or excluded

Forward pass — automatically propagates your selection across the entire
sequence, generating masks frame-by-frame without manual redrawing

Layer support — create multiple independent masks within a single sequence,
each with its own compositor roto node

Native compositor integration — outputs directly into Blender's compositor
nodes, so it slots into your existing pipeline instead of forcing a new workflow

 How to Use It

Install via Preferences > Add-ons > Install from Disk

Load your image sequence in the Image Editor

Add the same sequence in the Compositor

In the Image Editor, open the AI Roto panel

Select your subject and hit Forward Pass

Use Place Roto Points to drop positive/negative points for precision

Each layer generates its own roto node — pull it into your comp

 Who This Is For

VFX artists doing green-screen-free compositing

Motion designers who need clean subject isolation fast

Indie animators and solo creators without a roto team

Anyone currently outsourcing roto work or eating hours doing it by hand

 Get It

AI Roto is $14.99 on Gumroad: https://fayazmodz.gumroad.com/l/ai-roto

If rotoscoping is the part of your pipeline you dread most, this is built to
remove it.
