I Built a Loading Screen That Never Finishes

This is a submission for the DEV April Fools Challenge

  What I Built

I built a completely useless web app that does… absolutely nothing productive.

Introducing: Loading Screen Forever

It’s a loading screen that:

Loads from 0% to 99%

And then… never finishes

Just when you think it’s done:

It goes backwards

Or stays stuck at 99% forever

Or tells you “Almost there…” (lies)

Basically, it’s the most realistic loading experience ever created

  Demo

Try it yourself (if you have patience):

  Code

Built with simple tech (because suffering should be lightweight):

HTML

CSS

JavaScript

        ADAIKKAPPAN2310
       /
        loopload

  How I Built It

I used JavaScript to simulate a fake loading system:

Progress bar increases slowly from 0 → 99

At 99%:

- Randomly resets back

- Or freezes forever

Dynamic funny messages change while loading

Added fake buttons like:

- “Retry” (does nothing)

- “Cancel” (restarts the pain)

CSS was used to:

Create a dark UI

Smooth animations

A satisfying but meaningless progress bar

  Why It's Useless

Because it solves a problem that doesn’t exist.
Actually… it creates a problem.

This app:

Wastes your time

Gives false hope

Teaches patience (or anger issues)

10/10 useless. Mission accomplished

  Prize Category

Community Favorite

Because:

Everyone has suffered from loading screens

This makes that pain… worse 😄

Highly relatable + annoying = perfect combo

DoubtDrop – A Lightweight Q&A Platform for Student Communities

This is a submission for the DEV Weekend Challenge: Community

  The Community

DoubtDrop is built for my academic community — college students who often struggle to quickly clear doubts, share notes, and access study materials in one centralized place.
In many classrooms, students rely on scattered WhatsApp messages, personal chats, or separate platforms to ask questions and share resources. This creates confusion and information loss.
DoubtDrop aims to simplify this by providing a lightweight, focused platform where students can:

Post academic doubts

Answer peers’ questions

Upvote helpful replies

Share study resources including PDFs, images, and videos
The goal is to encourage collaborative learning within small academic communities.

  What I Built

DoubtDrop is a minimal Q&A and resource-sharing web app designed specifically for student communities.
Core Features:
• Post questions
• Answer questions
• Upvote helpful answers
• Add study resources
• Upload PDFs, images, and videos
• Persistent storage using localStorage
The application is designed as an MVP prototype. It focuses on usability, clarity, and student-friendly interaction.
The interface is clean, responsive, and built for quick academic collaboration.

  Demo

Live App:
https://doubtdropit.vercel.app

  Code

GitHub Repository:

        ADAIKKAPPAN2310
       /
        doubtdrop

Doubtdrop

Doubtdrop is a React-based web application designed to help users manage and resolve doubts or questions. It allows users to post questions, attach resources (files or links), and track them in a clean, modern interface. The application uses local storage for data persistence, making it a lightweight, serverless solution for personal or small-group use.

Features

Question Management: Create, view, and organize questions effectively.

Resource Linking: Attach helpful resources to your questions, including

File Uploads: Store file metadata and content (subject to browser storage limits).

External Links: Save URLs to relevant websites or documentation.

Data Persistence: Automatically saves all data to the browser's
localStorage
(key:
doubtdrop-data-v1
), ensuring your data remains available across page reloads.

Responsive UI: Built with a modern, responsive design using CSS variables for consistent theming.

Sorting: Automatically sorts questions to show the latest entries first.

Tech Stack

Frontend Framework…

View on GitHub

  How I Built It

DoubtDrop was built using:

React (component-based architecture)

React Hooks (useState, useEffect)

localStorage for persistent client-side data storage

FileReader API to handle PDF, image, and video uploads
All data is stored locally in the browser to demonstrate functionality without requiring backend infrastructure.
For future improvements, this project can be extended with:

Cloud database integration (MongoDB / Firebase)

User authentication

Real-time collaboration

Cloud file storage

Role-based moderation

  Closing thoughts

This project was built as a rapid MVP for the DEV Community Challenge to demonstrate how small, focused tools can improve collaborative learning within academic groups.
DoubtDrop shows how even a lightweight solution can create meaningful impact in student communities.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this challenge.

Building a Secure Password Generator with GitHub Copilot CLI

GitHub Copilot CLI Challenge Submission
Live demo(https://pass-gen-new.vercel.app/)

  What I Built

I built a Password Generator Web Application that allows users to generate strong and secure passwords instantly.
The application includes:

Adjustable password length

Options to include:
Uppercase letters,
Lowercase letters,
Numbers,
Special characters

Clean and responsive UI

One-click copy to clipboard

The goal of this project was to create a simple, fast, and practical tool that anyone can use for generating secure passwords.

As a student, this project helped me strengthen my frontend skills and understand how to deploy a production-ready web application.

  Demo

Live: https://pass-gen-new.vercel.app/

My Experience with GitHub Copilot CLI

I used GitHub Copilot CLI in multiple stages of development:

Converting Tailwind CSS to External CSS

Copilot CLI helped me convert Tailwind-based styling into structured external CSS files.
This saved time and reduced manual refactoring.

Generating README File

I used Copilot CLI to generate a clean and professional README file for my repository.

Git Automation

Copilot CLI helped me:

Create commit messages

Commit changes

Push code to GitHub
This streamlined my workflow and made version control faster.

Experience:
GitHub Copilot CLI significantly improved my development speed. It helped reduce repetitive tasks and improved productivity.

However, I felt that it consumes a lot of request credits. Optimizing credit usage could improve the experience even further.
