What do you think is the biggest challenge when moving from Windows to Linux?

For many people, switching isn't just about choosing a Linux distribution and installing it.

There are questions around hardware compatibility, software alternatives, daily workflows, privacy, gaming, drivers, and whether Linux is actually ready for their specific needs.

That got me thinking: Can we help people evaluate their Linux migration readiness before they make the switch?

So, I built Linux Migration Companion, an open-source tool designed to help Windows users understand their migration readiness, identify potential compatibility concerns, and create a structured migration plan through a personal Linux Migration Passport.

🔗 GitHub: https://github.com/dennishilk/linux-migration-companion

🌐 Project website: https://www.dennishilk.com/linux-migration-companion/

🚀 Looking for Developers and Open-Source Contributors

I'm actively looking to connect with developers, Linux enthusiasts, and open-source contributors who would like to help improve the project.

Whether your contribution is through:

• Improving the code
• Reporting bugs
• Suggesting new migration checks or features
• Improving the UI/UX
• Testing on different hardware and Linux distributions
• Improving documentation
• Reviewing the project architecture
• Opening issues or submitting pull requests

Every meaningful contribution is welcome.

I'm especially interested in hearing from developers and experienced Linux users who have real-world experience helping people migrate from Windows.

If this project interests you, check out the repository, explore the project, open an issue with your ideas, or contribute directly with a pull request.

Let's build something that can make the move to Linux easier for more people — together.

Honest feedback, technical criticism, ideas, issues, and contributions are all welcome.
