I Turned My React Website Into a Mobile App (iOS & Android) in 5 Minutes (React Native Expo)

From Web to Mobile App in Minutes

I just turned my React fintech website into a fully functional mobile app for iOS and Android using React Native Expo without rewriting a single line of frontend code.

Instead of rebuilding everything, I wrapped my website inside a WebView, and now it behaves like a real mobile app.

The process is fast, clean, and perfect if you already have a working website and want a mobile presence quickly.

I also shared the full source code so you can try it yourself in real time.

Key takeaways

Reuse your existing web app
Build for Android & iOS with Expo
Understand what works for MVPs vs fully native apps

If you’re a developer or startup founder, this is a practical way to save time and launch mobile apps faster.

Curious who else has tried turning their website into a mobile app without a full rebuild? 🤔

The Internet Changed My Life… And It Can Change Yours Too

The Internet Changed My Life…. And It Can Change Yours Too

Not everyone grows up with opportunities.

Some of us grew up in places where electricity is unstable, internet is expensive, and access to quality education is limited.

Yet somehow, technology still finds a way to create hope.

I still remember when I started learning software development.

No fancy laptop.
No perfect environment.
Just curiosity, determination, and the internet.

Most nights were spent learning, building, failing, and starting again.

Today, technology has become one of the greatest equalizers in the world.

A young person in Africa with a laptop and internet connection can….

• Build software used globally
• Work with international companies
• Launch startups
• Create jobs for others

You don’t need permission to start anymore.

The world is moving fast with AI, fintech, blockchain, and automation, and this is not the time for young Africans to sit on the sidelines.

This is the time to build.

Learn a skill.
Solve real problems.
Collaborate with others.
Create products that impact millions.

The next global tech company can come from anywhere Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, Kigali.

And the person who builds it might just be someone reading this post today.

Technology is not just about writing code.

It is about creating solutions, empowering people, and shaping the future.

So if you are a young person trying to learn tech, build a startup, or improve your skills keep going.

Your environment may not be perfect, but your potential is unlimited.

The future belongs to builders.

Let’s keep building.

I spent 2 years as a UI/UX designer before switching to code.

I spent 2 years as a UI/UX designer before switching to code.

Designers who can't code build impossible things.
Developers who can't design build ugly things.

Here’s why being BOTH saved my career…

In my first dev job, I watched a senior engineer spend 3 days building a dashboard.

It worked perfectly. But users couldn't find the main action.

I had to bite my tongue while he argued "the data is there, they just need to look."

They didn't look. They left.

Meanwhile, designers on my team would hand me Figma files with 12px margins and 8 different font sizes.

"Make it pixel-perfect," they'd say 🤨

I would explain responsive constraints….

They'd say "just code it."

I coded it. It broke on mobile. They blamed me.

Sound familiar? 😆

The breaking point…. I rebuilt that same dashboard in 6 hours.

Not because I'm a 10x engineer.

Because I designed it FIRST in Figma, tested the flow, then coded.

The senior dev took 3 days because he was designing in the browser.

I was designing in Figma, building in VS Code.

Here's the system I use now:

Design Phase (Figma)

User flow before pixels
1 primary action per screen
Responsive grids FIRST

Dev Phase (React/Node)

Component structure from design
No "I'll fix the spacing later"
Ship faster because decisions are made

The outcome?

Features ship 40% faster
Users actually complete flows
I stand out in interviews

But here's the part nobody talks about 👇

I don't burn out anymore.

When I was only designing, I felt powerless to build.
When I was only coding, I felt frustrated by bad UX.

Now I control the full stack of the user experience.

Design
Code
Deploy
Measure
Iterate

One person….. One vision….. No translation errors….

The industry wants you to pick a lane.

Learn to code your own concepts….
Learn to prototype before you build….

Which side are you on? And what's stopping you from crossing over?

Follow Adeweb Developer Africa

I almost shut down My Tech Company | Adeweb Developer in 2023.

Not because we ran out of money. Not because we couldn't find clients.

Because I was building software that worked but didn't matter.

Let me explain.

I'm in a room in Allen Avenue, Lagos.

One client who needed a fintech app "like Opay." We built it in 8 weeks. Clean Flutter code.

Beautiful UI. The client paid. Everyone was happy.

Same story. Different client. "Build me a wallet app." We built it. Shipped it. Moved on.

Early 2023. I met a woman named Mrs. Adeleke. She runs a provision store in Ikorodu.

She told me something that broke me:
"I don't trust these apps. Last month, I sent money to my son in school.

The network failed. The money left my account. He never got it.

I had to borrow to feed him that week."
She wasn't anti-technology. She was anti-unreliable technology.

And I realized….. We were building features. Not trust.

So I made a decision that almost killed the company.

I told the team: No new projects for 3 months. We're fixing one thing… reliability in low-network environments.

The developers thought I was crazy. "Enoch, we have paying clients waiting." I know. "We'll lose revenue." I know. "Competitors are shipping faster." I know.

But here's what I also knew: In Nigeria, "network error" isn't an inconvenience.

For someone sending school fees, it's a crisis. For someone buying electricity tokens at midnight, it's sitting in darkness.

We spent those 3 months on things that don't look good in pitch decks:

Retry logic that actually works when 2G flickers
Offline queueing that syncs when signal returns
SMS fallbacks when push notifications fail
Token formatting that works even on old Tecno phones with cracked screens

Today, March 2025:
Adeweb Developer Africa has 27 people. We've processed over 11000+ transactions.

Our electricity payment system alone serves 4,000+ monthly active users.

But the number I'm proudest of?
0.3% transaction failure rate. Down from 12% in 2022.

Mrs. Adeleke? She uses our platform now. She told me last month: "It just works.

Even when MTN is doing their nonsense."

That's the review that matters.

What I learned and what I want every founder reading this to hear

"It works on my phone" is not enough.

Test on the ₦35,000 Android device. Test on 2G. Test with 15% battery.

Your users don't have iPhone 15s and fiber internet.

Speed without reliability is debt.

Explaining to a crying customer why their money disappeared feels worse.

Technical debt is real. But "trust debt" the kind where users lose faith in your platform…. is harder to repay.

Your ego will cost you users.

To the founders building for emerging markets:
You're not just writing code.

You're building infrastructure for people who've been disappointed by systems before.

Government failed them. Banks failed them. Now an app is failing them.

Your job isn't to be the smartest in the room. It's to be the most trustworthy…

Stop Hardcoding API Keys! Secure Your Secrets with Firebase Secret Manager

Hardcoding API keys directly in source code

Someone pushes code to GitHub, and there is the API key, exposed for anyone to grab….

Hackers are always watching.

One simple mistake like this can destroy your startup your money, reputation, and customer trust, all gone in an instant.

But there is a better way….

In my latest video, I break down Firebase Secret Manager step by step.

This is not the type of tutorial where you finish watching and still feel lost.

I use real code, a real project, and show you exactly how to….

Remove those keys from your code
Store them securely on Google Cloud
Access them when needed quickly and safely
Do it the 2024 way (because implementations have changed)

And because I know we Nigerians love to test ourselves, I included a quiz at the end.

Watch the full video, test your knowledge, and drop your score in the comments. Let us see who really knows their stuff

If you work with JavaScript, Node.js, React, or anything backend-related this concerns you. It is not just for senior developers.

Junior developers, mid-level engineers, even that friend who is just learning they all need to watch this.

Because the day your "small side project" blows up and that exposed API key causes serious damage... you will remember this post.

In this video, I’ll walk you through the mobile wallet and utility payment app I developed using Flutter and Firebase inspired by popular fintech platforms like OPay, PalmPay, and Kuda.

Whether you're a Flutter beginner or an intermediate developer, this video gives you a full demo of the key features, UI/UX, and Firebase integration used to bring this app to life.

📱 App Features:

- User Registration & Login (with Firebase Authentication)

- Wallet Dashboard (balance, transaction history)

- Send & Receive Money

- Utility Payments (Airtime, Data, Electricity, etc.)

- Secure PIN System

- Real-Time Updates with Firebase Firestore

- Notifications & User Profiles

🛠️ Tech Stack:

Flutter (Cross-platform mobile development)

Firebase Authentication

Firebase Firestore (Real-time database)

Firebase Cloud Functions (Secure wallet logic)

Firebase Storage (for profile images or receipts)

State Management: Provider, Riverpod, Bloc

⚡ React Native Tip #47

Don't use console.log in production.

Use react-native-logs instead:
- Filter by level
- Write to file
- Send to crashlytics

Your future debugging self will thank you.

Look at Mark Zuckerberg… He dropped out of college, and now he's worth billions.

Look at Mark Zuckerberg… He dropped out of college, and now he's worth billions. If he had stayed in college, he would likely have been successful.

As successful as he is? No, but he also wouldn't be flipping burgers.

Despite what other people say, it does get harder to go back to school

Everyone who drops out of college after three years has "a good reason"

In virtually all cases, the reason wasn't nearly good enough.

No, You can't transfer your existing credits to a community college and just get them to give you an associates degree.

That's not how it works.

Regardless of whether or not it sounds cool, finishing your degree is by far the most sensible choice.

On the flipside, think about the thousands (and yes I mean thousands) of would-be Mark Zuckerbergs (and yes I mean people specifically inspired by Zuckerberg and hoping to repeat what he did) who dropped out of college and now are flipping burgers

I get some fraction of the students in my office, and they are a mix of the deeply angry gree and profoundly depressed

Their dreams didn't pan out, and now they're having to beg and plead to get sufficient financial aid to finish their degrees

They're mostly angry at themselves, or depressed by their own decisions.

I repeat… Regardless of whether or not it sounds cool, finishing your degree is by far the most sensible choice

I spent 2 years as a UI/UX designer before switching to code.

I spent 2 years as a UI/UX designer before switching to code.

Designers who can't code build impossible things.
Developers who can't design build ugly things.

Here’s why being BOTH saved my career…

In my first dev job, I watched a senior engineer spend 3 days building a dashboard.

It worked perfectly. But users couldn't find the main action.

I had to bite my tongue while he argued "the data is there, they just need to look."

They didn't look. They left.

Meanwhile, designers on my team would hand me Figma files with 12px margins and 8 different font sizes.

"Make it pixel-perfect," they'd say 🤨

I would explain responsive constraints….

They'd say "just code it."

I coded it. It broke on mobile. They blamed me.

Sound familiar? 😆

The breaking point…. I rebuilt that same dashboard in 6 hours.

Not because I'm a 10x engineer.

Because I designed it FIRST in Figma, tested the flow, then coded.

The senior dev took 3 days because he was designing in the browser.

I was designing in Figma, building in VS Code.

Here's the system I use now:

Design Phase (Figma)

User flow before pixels
1 primary action per screen
Responsive grids FIRST

Dev Phase (React/Node)

Component structure from design
No "I'll fix the spacing later"
Ship faster because decisions are made

The outcome?

Features ship 40% faster
Users actually complete flows
I stand out in interviews

But here's the part nobody talks about 👇

I don't burn out anymore.

When I was only designing, I felt powerless to build.
When I was only coding, I felt frustrated by bad UX.

Now I control the full stack of the user experience.

Design
Code
Deploy
Measure
Iterate

One person….. One vision….. No translation errors….

The industry wants you to pick a lane.

Learn to code your own concepts….
Learn to prototype before you build….

Which side are you on? And what's stopping you from crossing over?
