Hello, I'm Adin Fauzan from Indonesia, precisely in Gunung Putri, Bogor. I've been studying programming since the end of 2020, more precisely in 2021.

At first I was confused about learning to code, but in 2021 I got direction from the Roadmap website, where I started learning to use Sumblime Text.

I hope that in this dev.to community I can gain a lot of experience and get motivated to be able to achieve learning up to full-stack development hahaha.

Learning Web Development from YouTube

Learning web development is a journey that begins with curiosity, patience, and the willingness to explore something new. For me, YouTube became one of the most valuable resources in the early stages of my journey into the world of technology.

I started learning web development independently by watching tutorials, following practical examples, and experimenting with code. YouTube provided access to a wide range of learning materials, from the fundamentals of HTML and CSS to JavaScript, modern frameworks, and application development.

 Learning Beyond Tutorials

At first, following tutorials seemed like the easiest way to understand how websites work. I could watch someone build a website step by step and try to recreate the same result. However, I gradually realized that understanding code requires more than simply copying what someone else has written.

The real learning process began when I started modifying examples, experimenting with different approaches, and solving problems on my own. Sometimes, a small mistake could take hours to understand. Yet those moments taught me to read error messages, investigate possible solutions, and develop a more structured approach to problem-solving.

Over time, I learned that tutorials should serve as a starting point rather than a limitation. The goal is not merely to finish a video, but to understand the concepts well enough to apply them independently.

 Turning Knowledge into Projects

One of the most important lessons I have learned is that practical experience plays a significant role in developing technical skills. Building projects allows me to connect individual concepts and understand how different parts of an application work together.

Through experimentation, I became more familiar with website structure, responsive layouts, component-based development, and the logic behind interactive features. Each project introduced new challenges and opportunities to improve my understanding.

I also began to appreciate the importance of writing maintainable code, organizing project structures, and considering the experience of the people who will eventually use the software.

These experiences gradually shifted my perspective from simply learning how to write code to understanding how to build useful digital products.

 Consistency Over Perfection

Learning independently comes with its own challenges. Without a fixed curriculum or instructor, it can be difficult to determine what to learn next or how deeply to explore a particular topic. There are also times when progress feels slow, especially when working with unfamiliar technologies.

I have learned that consistency matters more than trying to master everything at once. Technology evolves continuously, and becoming a developer requires a commitment to learning, adapting, and improving over time.

YouTube helped me take the first steps, but curiosity and hands-on practice encouraged me to go further.

 Looking Ahead

My journey in web development is still evolving. I continue to explore new technologies, build projects, and improve the way I approach software development. What started as a personal interest has grown into a meaningful part of my professional aspirations.

For anyone beginning a similar journey, my advice is simple: start with what you have, build something small, learn from your mistakes, and keep moving forward.

You do not need to know everything before creating your first project. Sometimes, the most valuable lessons come from the things you build, the problems you encounter, and the effort you invest in understanding them.

Learning opens the door, but building is what moves you forward.
