What happens when you decide to build a technology company from Assam instead of a traditional startup hub?

For most of India's startup story, the map is familiar.

Bengaluru.
Delhi.
Mumbai.
Hyderabad.
Pune.

These cities have built enormous technology ecosystems around capital, talent, founders and infrastructure.

But there is another part of India quietly changing.

Northeast India.

And somewhere in Assam, we're trying to build from it.

Why build from Assam?

This wasn't necessarily the obvious choice.

Building a technology company outside India's established startup hubs means working with a different set of constraints.

Finding specialized talent can be harder.

Building networks takes longer.

Access to capital and experienced startup communities isn't always nearby.

But there is another side to the equation.

You are closer to problems that haven't been solved yet.

Businesses are digitizing.

Local commerce is evolving.

Logistics infrastructure is changing.

Young developers are building new things.

Entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly visible.

And a generation of people from the Northeast is beginning to see technology not only as something to consume, but something to create.

That is the environment in which we started building Anethix Labs.

Not another software agency

Our ambition isn't to become a conventional software development company.

We're building Anethix Labs as a software venture studio.

The idea is relatively simple:

Find a meaningful problem.
Understand it deeply.
Build a solution.
Put it in the hands of users.
Learn.
Iterate.
And, if the model works, scale it.

One product can become a company.

The infrastructure, engineering experience and lessons from that product can then help us build the next one.

Over time, the goal is to create something larger than a single product.

A technology company capable of repeatedly turning problems into products.

Our starting point is regional. Our ambition isn't.

We're building from Assam, but we don't want our products to be defined by Assam.

There is a difference between:

Building for a region

and

Building from a region.

We're interested in the second.

Northeast India can be our starting point.

India can be our testing ground.

And global markets can be where the products eventually go.

That's the direction we're thinking about.

The Northeast is changing

Something interesting is happening across the region.

More young people are entering technology.

More founders are experimenting.

More businesses are becoming digital.

More conversations around startups, AI, SaaS and product development are happening locally.

The ecosystem is still young.

And that's precisely what makes it interesting.

We don't believe every successful technology company has to emerge from an already-established technology hub.

Sometimes, the next ecosystem gets built by the people who decide to stay and build there.

We want to be part of that process.

We're still figuring it out

This isn't a story about having everything figured out.

We're early.

There will be products that work.

There will be ideas that don't.

There will be technical decisions we'll eventually replace.

There will be assumptions that users prove wrong.

That's part of building.

And honestly, that's the part we're most interested in.

Because building a venture studio means constantly asking:

What should we build next?

Not:

What can we build because we already know how?

That distinction matters.

Why developers matter to this story

At the centre of every technology company is a group of people willing to take an idea that exists only on a whiteboard and turn it into something real.

Developers aren't simply writing code.

They're helping decide:

What should exist?
How should it work?
Can it scale?
Can it remain reliable?
Can it be secure?
Can someone actually use it?

When you're building from an emerging ecosystem, every engineer, designer and builder becomes part of something bigger than an individual product.

You're also helping prove that the ecosystem can produce technology.

So, what are we trying to build?

We're trying to build a company where geography isn't a limitation.

A company where someone can look at a difficult problem in a market, sit down with a small team, build the first version, put it in front of users and discover whether it deserves to exist.

That's the experiment behind Anethix Labs.

Not:

“Can Assam produce a startup?”

But something much more interesting:

“Can a technology company built in Northeast India repeatedly create products that matter beyond the region?”

We don't know the answer yet.

We're building to find out.

Built in Northeast India.
Built for India.
Built with the ambition to go global.
