Designing clear search results for a healthcare directory.

A healthcare directory should help people answer three questions quickly: What kind of provider is this? Where are they located? How can I contact them?

 Make results easy to compare

Use a consistent order for each result: provider name, specialty or service, city, address, and contact options. Distinguish individual professionals from clinics and other organizations so visitors understand what they are opening.

Keep descriptions short in search results. Detailed information belongs on the profile page.

 Make the next action clear

Use specific labels such as “View profile,” “Call,” and “Get directions.” If online booking is unavailable, avoid a button that suggests an appointment can be reserved.

A phone number should remain readable even when it is also clickable. This helps people who want to copy it or call from another device.

 Explain empty results

When a search returns nothing, keep the search terms visible and suggest a practical next step, such as removing a location filter or trying a broader specialty.

Avoid silently replacing the requested location with unrelated results.

 Check the mobile experience

Review long provider names, addresses, and translated labels on a narrow screen. Contact buttons should remain easy to identify, and opening a result should preserve a clear way back to the search.

These are design suggestions, not findings from a completed usability study.

GjejeMjekun is a healthcare directory in Kosovo where users can search for providers by name, specialty, or location. It provides a concrete setting for considering these design questions. I share it as a project I like; I do not work for or represent it.
