"Continuous learning is the ability to continually develop and improve one's skills and knowledge in order to perform effectively and adapt to changes in the workplace."

Technologies and best practices are constantly evolving.

This means that software developers' skills and experiences can rapidly become out-of-date. To be successful and content, the best employers ensure employees adapt and develop their skills along with their changing environment.
To be and to become a developer who is able to deliver a positive impact on an organization one needs to stay ahead. Developers need to be provided with continuous learning opportunities and dev teams should be encouraged to use their own initiatives for ongoing personal development.

At Codemotion we always try to find out new ways to engage developers.

Codemotion is not just an annual conference! We launch 5 new projects each year which meant to connect like-minded developers and communities.
Unlock Your Udemy Course Of Choice For FreeOur new platform is truly unique. Developers can unlock Udemy Courses by referring other developers to Codemotion. It is easy as 1-2-3: sign up and perform fun tasks in order to collect points.

At 500 points you can choose to unlock an Udemy Course of your choice,
at 1000 points an IT Certification Course of your choice and so on.

Gamifying continuous learning with an easter egg hunt. Funny? Well, it will get you a free course! Visit: https://vyper.io/c/21285vgthd

TypeFont is a program that identifies the font of a text in a picture - IS IT WORTH € 5000?

David: Vasile, You have some interesting projects on Agora, TypeFont is just one of them. Would you like to tell our readers about yourself?

Vasile: I’m Vasile Pește, I come from a small village in Romania. Thanks to my mother, at the age of six I had my first computer, and here everything started: few years after I wrote my first program in Python and I've never stopped learning since that day. At sixteen I was lucky enough to get my first job as a programmer for iubenda, one of the best startups in Italy, at this time I'm still working for them as a Front-end Developer.

David: What One Skill Makes You the Most Qualified for Your Current Position?

Vasile: I’m sure that passion and willingness to learn are one of the keys to being the most qualified for this position. I don't know if they could be defined as skills, but I know they are something passive, that might allow you to achieve almost any skill you desire. This applies not only to this role but for every discipline.

David: What Excites You Most About Your Project(s) You Posted On Agora?

Vasile: Well they are gaining a little bit of visibility and this is nice, it makes me feel valued for the time I spend on them, I’ve never asked anything back.

David: Why Should Our Readers Vote For Your Project?

Vasile: If my project doesn't solve your problem you probably have no interest in voting it. But if you like the idea behind Vision, my project that unveils the technologies used on websites you may vote it. I am creating an extension for Google Chrome, soon people without technical knowledge will be able to use it.

David: What Was The Coolest Project You Contributed To?

Vasile: To be honest until now I spent my time only on my projects. Few contributions to other projects but not relevant. One of the coolest projects I have been working on is Typefont, a program that identifies the font of a text in a picture, it’s cool because the difficulty lies in comparing two shapes and establishing a perceptive similarity between them. I learned a lot of things while working on it.

David: Do Your Boss And Colleagues Know You Have Side-Projects?

Vasile: Yes, I talk about them sometimes at work. In the projects I do at work, sometimes it happens to use code that I wrote in my side projects!

David: What Do You Think Developers Need In 3 Words?

Vasile: The ability of Abstraction!

David: If You Won The €5000 Top Prize On Agora, Would You Spend It On Your Project? You do not need to, we are just curious!

Vasile: Not actually on the projects, I posted on Agora, I have other projects not yet published: for instance, I’m creating a game with a friend, it’s a 2D RPG Platform. I’m also working on a project called “GIF-Shirt” in which I’m trying to attach an OLED (flexible) display on a t-shirt for reproducing videos/gifs on it from a smartphone. And many other things in my head… so I would certainly spend part of the prize on my projects.

Vasile: Thank you for this opportunity!

You can find Vasile's Profile link on http://myproject.codemotion.com/author/vasile-peste

MIMIC this!

David: Your project made some serious waves on Agora, tell Codemotion's readers about yourself Maayan!

Maayan: I'm Maayan Glikser and I'm the CTO at 500Tech, a frontend development, training, and consultancy agency in Israel.
I occasionally talk at meetups and conferences and I help to organize React Next international conference.
One of my passions is creating tools to ease the development process as well as being able to communicate better with others which is what Mimic helps me do.

David: So how did the early days look like before you were called CTO?

Maayan: I started my career as a backend developer working on .NET and PHP. Every once in awhile I had opportunities to build small frontend features to facilitate the products I've built on the front end.
Over time the frontend part grew more and more and I've started writing more and more code starting from bits of jQuery to the backbone, angularJS and eventually React as I've moved to be a dedicated frontend developer.

David: Are you good at what you do?

Maayan: I suppose I am, as everyone there are specific things I'm well versed in and specific things which I'm not.
Luckily I'm surrounded by very smart people with different specialties that help each other when we have a specific need.

David: What One Skill Makes You the Most Qualified for Your Current Position?

Maayan: Understanding that my productivity is focused on making other people better rather than doing things myself as well as passing on the knowledge I've acquired during my career.

David: What Excites You Most About Your Project(s) You Posted On Agora?

Maayan: It is my dream tool, I use it whenever I have the chance and we use it regularly at my company, it solves a real need I had and probably always will.
The ability to mock any request I want and let whatever other requests pass through to the real server make my development life much easier.

David: Why Should Our Readers Vote For Your Project?

Maayan: Because it solves a real problem effortlessly and if you're a web developer you're most likely to have some use for Mimic.
Whether if it's mocking API's that don't exist yet or stabilizing integration tests against specific API responses or even preparing a demo environment for marketing to show the system with fake data.

David: What Was The Coolest Project You Contributed To?

Maayan: I'm not sure, I've done a bunch of contributions from small to big. I contributed to the documentation of webpack which is a very cool project but I was more involved in other projects such as xhook which is the engine behind Mimic and was originally developed for XDomain which in the past allowed us to do CORS requests. Eventually, from my contributions, I was invited to be a maintainer for xhook.

David: Do Your Boss And Colleagues Know You Have Side-Projects?

Maayan: Of course and they support me as well, I've had a bunch of colleagues including my Boss help me build Mimic and providing very much needed feedback.
The point where I knew I was onto something was that my colleagues started using Mimic for their projects without me asking them, so it showed it had potential.

David: What Do You Think Developers Need In 3 Words?

Maayan: Passion, Confidence and Business thinking

David: If You Won The €5000 Top Prize On Agora, Would You Spend It On Your Project? You do not need to, we are just curious!

Maayan: I will spend probably additional resources I'm not good at, for example for v2 I hired a UX person to help me realize my dream with a slick new UI.
I also have an issue with the marketing/copywriting side for explaining what Mimic is and what it is good for so I can use help there as well.

David: Sounds like a solid plan!

Check out his and other projects at >>> http://myproject.codemotion.com!
Watch MIMIC on AngularNYC >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPU9QOhhsrY&feature=youtu.be

Maayan Glikser is the CTO at 500Tech, a frontend development, training, and consultancy agency in Israel.
Interview With The Creator Of A Top Project On Agora: Ido Marko

David: Buddy Bug's is a great example of what Agora stands for!
Ido, tell our readers who are you & what do you do! We are curious!

Ido: My name is Ido Marko and I'm a 21 years old entrepreneur. When I was 14 I've started DODO apps - an app development studio. Nowadays I'm a student at the university, learning Software and Information System Engineering - specializing in Artificial Intelligence. I'm always looking into reinventing things and coming up with new technology related stuff.

David: Are you good at what you do?

Ido: Well, that's a tough question to answer. When I was younger I thought I am good at what I do, but as I grew older, and take a look back I realize how many things I have learned in my development journey, so that's why today I'm having a hard time declaring that I am "good" at something. Anyway, I know for sure that even if I am good at what I do, I can always get better (and strive to do so!)

David: What One Skill Makes You the Most Qualified for Your Current Position?

Ido: My experience. throughout my life, I went to many different experiences, both good and bad, in my career path. From each experience, I've learned and taken a life lesson to accompany me in other projects. As I accomplished many projects, I can say for sure that I have learned many lessons and that's what makes me so qualified for the leader position I have.

David: What Excites You Most About Your Project You Posted On Agora?

Ido: What excites me about this project is the fact the this is my idea. It has been a few good years since I have developed something that is my own (and not a client idea) so when I finally got a chance to do so it took me back to earlier times! Plus, I think the project can better our society to help people meet other people and socialize as they have never before!

David: Why Should Our Readers Vote For Your Project?

Ido: I think the readers should vote for me because at the end of the day I represent them. I am just a simple guy, who decided to follow through with his idea, just the way everybody else can! At the end of the way what's important for me is the readers - I want to make products that will better their lives and help them improve. I hope BuddyBug can help the readers gain new friends and help them do activities they have always wanted to do but never got the chance.

David: What Was The Coolest Project You Contributed To?

Ido: I had so many cool projects, so picking one is hard! If I have to choose one it would be giving a lecture in Droidcon. Droicon is a convention all about the new Android tech. When I've just started DODO Apps I got to go to this convention and I was amazed - all theses Android legends surrounding me, such an amazing experience! A few years later I got to lecture in Droidcon and that gave an objective view on how much progress I've made all these years. I've lectured about the development processes and the development journey and it was such a cool experience!

David: Do Your Boss And Colleagues Know You Have Side-Projects?

Ido: Yes, of course! My projects are not meant to be secret, but spread out to everyone!

David: What Do You Think Developers Need In 3 Words?

Ido: Courage to take action. I know I cheated and it's 4 words, but hey, does the "to" really counts?! Anyway, as I was saying, I think the courage to take action is rare to find in most developers these days. Many times developers get the most brilliant ideas but for different reasons decide to ditch them - DON'T DO THAT! Summon up all your courage and follow through with your idea!

David: If You Won The €5000 Top Prize On Agora, Would You Spend It On Your Project? You do not need to, we are just curious!

Ido: I would spend the prize on the BuddyBug project! I would like to create merch, like t-shirts that have the app logo and QR codes that link to our download page - it would be awesome! Also, I would like to make a few giveaways, so if I win your readers will win as well!
I've also decided that if I win I will donate part of the prize to a charity. I would like to let people on social media pick which charity to donate to, so if I win please make sure to vote!

David: Awesome! Thank you, Ido! We are curious to see if your project wins or not;) The contest is still open, and will be open until the 15th December 2019.
Come and join us on www.myproject.codemotion.com!

Side Project Awards

For those of you who know us, Codemotion's Platform team is constantly trying hard to get its head wrapped around the "next big thing for devs". Recently we came up with a tool that might be very interesting to the developers.

We created a developer project curation, feedback and voting platform for developer side projects. We called it Codemotion Agora.

Since the dawn of the bytes, developers just wanted to make life easier for themselves and humanity by creating smart solutions.

Twitter, Twitch, Slack, HubSpot and Github once started as a "side project". But not every developer gets to have their project freely evaluated, curated and possibly funded. That is exactly what we did.

We launched the project at Codemotion Milan on 18th October 2019 and so far we have more than 250 active contributors and 35 projects published.

Our first Project Awards sprint started on the 18th of October and will be closed on the 16th of December 2019. The current prize for the most voted project is €5.000.

You can have a look at the site here: myproject.codemotion.com
