I watch a lot of YouTube for learning: conference talks, tutorials, long podcast episodes. And I kept running into the same problem. I wanted to search, quote, or skim a video, but video isn’t text.

YouTube’s auto-captions exist, but they’re often missing, messy, or hard to export. Copy-pasting them line by line is painful. So I built a tool to fix it.

What happens behind the scenes

When you paste a link, a few things happen:

Fetch the media. The tool grabs the audio track from the URL. For video, only the audio matters, so this keeps things fast.
Speech-to-text. The audio goes through an AI speech recognition model that converts spoken words into text.
Segment and timestamp. The output is split into segments, each tied to a start time, so you can jump straight to the moment something was said.
Clean up. Punctuation and formatting make the transcript readable instead of one giant wall of words.

The trickiest parts weren’t the AI itself, but everything around it: long videos, different link formats, and making the result actually readable.

Bonus: it works inside AI assistants too
