TL;DR: Built a site, used seoskillsai.com (free, on GitHub), got organic search sessions before I even finished setting up Search Console. Either this is genuinely powerful or I'm in a Google honeymoon that's about to end badly.

 Background

I've been skeptical of the premium SEO tool ecosystem for a while. Everyone's charging $100–200+/month for what are essentially dashboards around data you could theoretically access yourself.
Two days ago I decided to test this properly: build a site from scratch, use only free tooling, and document what happens.

The tool: seoskillsai.com — open source, available on GitHub, AI-assisted SEO optimization framework.

 The Results (48 hours in)

GA4 — Session breakdown (last 30 days):
| Channel | Sessions |
|---|---|
| Direct | 82 |
| Unassigned | 16 |
| Organic Social | 9 |
| Organic Search | 5 |
| Referral | 1 |
Google Search Console (3-month baseline from related property):
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Total Clicks | 286 |
| Total Impressions | 8,780 |
| Average CTR | 3.3% |
| Average Position | 8.9 |

5 organic search sessions on a domain that's 48 hours old. Bing Webmaster Tools isn't even configured yet.

 What seoskillsai.com actually does

It's an AI-native SEO framework that handles:

Content structure optimization — semantic HTML, heading hierarchy, entity coverage

On-page SEO automation — title tags, meta descriptions, canonical tags, schema

Content quality scoring — NLP-based keyword density, readability, E-E-A-T signals

Zero configuration required — no API keys, no dashboard, no account needed
It's the kind of work you'd normally pay Surfer SEO or Clearscope to do, but free and fully auditable because it's open source.

## The skeptic's checklist
I'm not buying my own hype yet. Here are the legitimate counterarguments:
1. Google Honeymoon Period
New domains often get temporary elevated visibility for 2–4 weeks. This could evaporate completely.
2. 5 sessions is not statistical significance
Correct. I need weeks of data before drawing conclusions.
3. Direct traffic (82 sessions) is dominating
Most initial traffic is direct — probably me and people I shared the link with. Organic is a tiny slice.
4. Position 8.9 average is barely page 1
Not sustainable long-term without improvement toward the top 5.
---
## Why I'm posting this now instead of waiting
Because the interesting data is the trajectory, not just the endpoint.
If I wait 3 months and post "here's how I got traffic with a free tool" — that's a clean retrospective. Probably slightly dishonest about the doubt and messiness.
Instead I want to document week by week:

Week 1: Initial data (this post)

Week 2: Did the honeymoon end?

Week 4: Is Bing showing anything?

 - Week 8: Success or failure?

Open questions I don't have answers to

At what domain age does Google stop treating a site as new?

How much of early organic traffic is Googlebot + search preview rendering?

 - Does using open-source SEO tooling vs proprietary actually change outcomes, or is underlying content quality what matters?

Drop your questions or counterarguments below — especially if you've seen the honeymoon effect play out firsthand. Follow for weekly data updates.

Zero configuration required — no API keys, no dashboard, no account needed
It's the kind of work you'd normally pay Surfer SEO or Clearscope to do, but free and fully auditable because it's open source.
