I joined the Hacktoberfest'26 train and somewhere along the way, I started discovering the DEV community too. And honestly I wasn’t expecting much at first.

But then I started going through posts and comments and realized there are people here who seem to have figured everything out. And then two comments later you find someone struggling with the exact same stupid error you’ve been staring at for three hours.

That part I liked.

There are discussions about security, AI, blockchain, fintech, random bugs, questionable architecture decisions and probably someone asking why their code works on their machine but nowhere else. It kind of feels like a Discord server, except people are actually solving problems instead of arguing over who gets admin.

I’m still figuring out what I want to specialize in. Right now, I’m exploring security, risk analysis, blockchain and fintech - so I’m very much in the “let’s see where this goes” phase.

Anyway, I’m genuinely glad I stumbled across this community. I’m still figuring out where I fit, what I want to specialize in and where all of this takes me. But maybe that’s the point.

There’s a line from Sheryl Sandberg that I really like:

If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, you don’t ask what seat. You just get on.

So I’m not too worried about figuring out my seat just yet. I’m just happy to be on the ship.

So yeah, hello DEV. Glad to be here.
