Working From Home as an intern

I recently was able to work from home for the first time.

Needless to say it was a terrifying experience.

I thought I was being watched from every web-enabled device in my home, the entire team monitoring to see if the intern was slacking off. It was almost like a scene from 1984 but instead of Big Brother it was my senior devs.

It was a 90% irrational fear I soon realized, since most of them were busy repeatedly banging their heads on a wall for their own projects.

To any other interns out there too afraid of being reprimanded for peeing too slow while working from home, you're fine. Maybe someone is watching from your webcam but it's definitely not your senior dev.

The intern

Working here, it kind of feels like I'm not being challenged. I constantly need to ask for more work and it feels like a "sit over here and play with this" mentality. I realize I'm still a baby dev, but I'd like to do more than write unit tests.

I'm not saying it's being done purposely. I think I'm frustrated with my own inability to prove myself capable of more.

Any Ideas on how to show my team I'm ready for harder stuff? Or is this just how it is for software interns?

Does anyone have any must-have book suggestions for a new developer? I'm still in school(finishing up my last year) and I'm looking to learn some stuff before I start a career.
