Tienda online o software a medida (3.000 € y arriba).

"How much does a website cost?" is the first question in almost every conversation, and the one almost nobody answers on their own site. You ask for three quotes and get 300 €, 2,000 € and 6,000 € for what you thought was the same thing.

It isn't that two of the three are ripping you off. It's that you're comparing different things that share a name. Here's what sits behind each figure.

 Why quotes vary so much

Nearly all the difference between one quote and another comes from four things:

How many pages, which is the only thing people usually ask about. It matters least.

Who writes the copy. If you write it, the site is cheaper and faster. If I write it, that's copywriting, not design, and it's charged.

Whether it has to rank or just go live. A site that is "nice and online" and a site built to show up on Google are two different jobs. The second includes a structure per service, structured data, speed and, if you already had a site, not losing what you had.

Whether anything has to be migrated. A new site on a new domain is easy. Replacing one that already ranks requires a URL inventory and redirects, and that's where rankings get lost when it's done in a hurry.

 The tiers, in practice

A template you set up yourself (0-100 €). Wix, Squarespace or a WordPress with a bought theme, built over a weekend. It works for having a presence, full stop. The problem isn't how it looks: it's that templates ship demo pages that end up indexed, load plenty you don't use, and tie you to a monthly fee. If your business doesn't depend on the internet to bring clients, it can be enough — and I'll tell you that even though I make a living from the alternative.

A small professional site (200-600 €). Three or four pages, your own copy, fast, with contact details and the Google listing properly wired in. This is the tier for a freelancer, a practice or a local shop that needs something solid to link to.

A site with SEO (1,000-2,500 €). This is where what gets you found lives: one page per service, a structure built around what people actually search, structured data, and a migration that keeps your rankings if you already had a site. It's the tier where a website stops being a brochure and starts bringing enquiries.

Online store or custom software (3,000 € and up). Catalogue, payments, stock, or an outright tool that can't be bought: an intranet, a dashboard wired to your ERP, an industrial catalogue with technical sheets.

My starting prices are published on services, with what each tier includes. It isn't a fixed rate card — the quote is agreed after seeing your case — but it does tell you which league you're in before writing to anyone.

 What the quote doesn't include

This is the part that turns a cheap quote into an expensive one:

Domain: 10 to 15 € a year. Make sure it's in your name, not your web developer's.

Hosting: from 0 € on a static site to 10-30 € a month for decent WordPress hosting.

Maintenance: WordPress needs core, theme and plugin updates. Either you do it, or you pay for it, or you end up with a compromised site. A static site has almost nothing to update, which is why it usually works out cheaper over three years even if it costs more upfront. I compare both in detail in WordPress or a custom website.

Paid plugins: forms, multilingual, backups. They add 100 to 300 € a year without anyone warning you.

Copy and photos. What delays websites most isn't the building: it's the copy never arriving.

The three questions that save you money

Before accepting any quote, these three:

Will the domain and hosting be in my name? If the answer is no, switching provider later will cost you more than the site did.

What happens to my current Google rankings? If you already have a site and nobody mentions redirects or a URL inventory, they will vanish. It's the most expensive and most common mistake, and I walk through it in how to rebuild your website without losing rankings.

Will I be able to edit the text myself? Not mandatory, but knowing up front saves paying 40 € to change an opening time.

What I'd do on a small budget

If you have 300 € and a local business, don't spend all 300 on the website. Spend part of it on a small, honest site, and put the rest of your effort into your Google listing, which is free and on mobile decides more than the site does: I explain it with real data in Google listing and local SEO.

A mediocre site with a well-worked listing brings you more clients than a beautiful site with no listing. I've measured it on a real case: the same website had an average position of 9.9 on mobile and 27.4 on desktop. Those seventeen places came from the map.

Want the number for your case? — I review your site and your competitors for free, then give you a fixed quote

 Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost for a freelancer?

In the 200-600 € tier there are perfectly respectable professional sites: few pages, fast, details properly set up and the Google listing connected. What drives the price isn't being a freelancer or a company, it's how many services have to rank.

Why do some people build it for 100 €?

Because it's a template set up in a few hours, with no original copy and no ranking work. It may be fine if you only need to exist online. It won't bring you clients through search, and it's no bad thing for someone to say so up front.

 Is WordPress cheaper?

Upfront, almost always yes. Over two or three years, with maintenance, paid plugins and fixes when things break, usually no. Compare the total cost, not the first invoice.

Is it all paid at once?

The norm is half at the start and half at launch. On bigger projects, in phases.

What if I just want to know what's wrong with the site I already have?

That's what the audit is for, and it's free — plus the SEO checker, which gives you a first look in ten seconds without talking to anyone.

https://
y con o sin
www

If you run a psychology, physiotherapy or nutrition practice, or a clinic, almost all your clients search for you the same way: "service + city". "Psychologist Vigo", "physiotherapist Ourense", "anxiety therapist Santiago".

That kind of search has its own rules. This guide covers what I've seen work with real Search Console data, and also what doesn't work even when it's sold to you.

First: the map matters more than the website

In local searches, especially on mobile, the first thing that appears is the map pack with three businesses. That block doesn't come from your website: it comes from your Google Business Profile.

For a psychology practice in Vigo I work with, average position was 9.9 on mobile and 27.4 on desktop. Seventeen positions apart for the same website. The reason: on mobile the map weighs far more. The Google listing was doing more work than the website.

How to look after your Google listing

The right primary category, and only the secondary ones that truly apply. If you inherited a listing from another business, make sure it doesn't carry services you no longer offer.

Name, address and phone (NAP) identical everywhere (see below).

Website link to the exact version (
https://
, with or without
www
, whichever you use), so people don't go through redirects.

Real opening hours, photos of the practice and described services.

Reviews: what moves the most, and where to ask for them

If one thing separates whoever ranks top for "therapist + city" from whoever sits on page three, it's reviews. The top results usually have hundreds.

The most common mistake: spreading them out. Some on Google, others on Doctoralia, others on the clinic's listing… and nowhere do you build up volume. Pick one main place, usually Google because it feeds the map, and always ask for reviews there.

In psychology there's a delicate nuance: some patients don't want it publicly known that they're in therapy. Never push; just make the link easy for those who want to leave one.

NAP: the boring detail that hurts when it's wrong

NAP stands for Name, Address, Phone. Google cross-checks the data on your website, your listing and directories. If every place shows a different version ("X Street, 8" here, "X Street, 8, ground floor, unit 4" there, a different trading name somewhere else), it struggles to trust they're the same business.

Choose one exact form of the name and address and copy it identically to your website, Google, Doctoralia and any directory. And claim directory listings with stale data: a directory saying you "may have ceased trading" hurts.

The website: service pages, not one page that says everything

Where the website does make the difference is in the more specific searches: "anxiety psychologist Vigo", "EMDR therapy Vigo", "neurodivergence Vigo".

For each important service, its own page written for that search. In the Vigo case, the neurodivergence screening page reached position 4.7 with a 26% CTR within weeks, while anxiety searches, with no dedicated page, sat between positions 40 and 54.

Building those pages one by one is the slow part, and it's exactly what I do in SEO for therapists and practices.

And the basics, which count double in healthcare:

A website that's fast on mobile.

Professional registration and health licence numbers visible.

Privacy: no loading maps or third-party widgets until the visitor asks.

What doesn't work (even when it's sold to you)

Promising top 3 for "therapist + city" in a few months. That search is won by reviews and years of links, not by the website.

Signing up to a hundred directories. The ones that matter already copy your data; more listings just multiply the places where your NAP can be wrong.

Repeating keywords ("psychologist Vigo psychologist Vigo…"). Google has penalised it for years.

Writing articles non-stop without checking what people search for or whether the previous ones work.

Local links: the trick almost nobody uses

Links from local, topic-related websites are worth a lot. If you give talks at schools or associations, ask them to announce it with a link to your website: a local, on-topic, repeatable link. And if you're a registered professional, check that your professional association links to your site.

Run a practice or clinic? — I'll do a free local SEO audit: Google listing, website and competitors

 Frequently asked questions

What matters more, the website or the Google listing?

For generic searches ("therapist + city"), the listing and reviews. For each service's specific searches, the website with dedicated pages. Ideally, work on both.

How many reviews do I need?

It depends on your competition. Check how many the top three in the map have for your main search: that's your benchmark.

 Does Doctoralia help with SEO?

It helps as a source of patients and authority, but if you split reviews between Doctoralia and Google, neither listing builds up volume. Decide which one is your main one.

noindex
en la etiqueta
<meta name="robots">
y en la cabecera
X-Robots-Tag
de tu servidor, y quítalo.

No necesariamente.

I review a lot of websites for small businesses, shops and professionals, and the same problems keep coming up. The good news: almost all of them can be fixed quickly and without rebuilding the site. Here's the list, from most to least serious.

You can check most of them on your site right now with the free SEO checker.

 1. A forgotten "noindex"

The most expensive and silliest mistake: the site was built in a staging environment telling Google not to index it, and that instruction survived launch. Result: the site doesn't appear on Google, however good it is.

Fix: look for
noindex
in the
<meta name="robots">
tag and your server's
X-Robots-Tag
header, and remove it.

 2. Generic titles ("Home", "Welcome")

The page title is what Google shows in big letters in results. "Home | My Company" tells no one what you do or where.

Fix: a different title per page, 15-65 characters, with the service and city.

 3. No meta description

If you don't write it, Google grabs any snippet of text from the page. The description doesn't rank directly, but it decides whether people click.

Fix: 70-165 characters explaining what you offer and why choose you.

 4. The site doesn't work well on mobile

Most local searches happen on mobile, and Google evaluates the mobile version of your site.

Fix: responsive design and the
viewport
tag. Open your site on your phone and try to book an appointment: if it's hard, there's work to do.

 5. Content Google can't see

Many modern sites "paint" all their text with JavaScript. The browser shows it, but the HTML Google receives arrives almost empty. Google reads it eventually, later and worse, and many AI tools that cite websites never read it.

Fix: get the content into the HTML (prerendered or server-rendered). It happened with my own site, as I explain in why I rebuilt it.

 6. Several H1s, or none

The H1 is the page's main heading. None, or five because the design uses them to make text big, confuses what the page is about.

Fix: exactly one H1 per page that says what it offers.

 7. One page for every service

"We do everything" on one page ranks for nothing specific. In the Vigo case, a dedicated service page reached position 4.7 while searches for a service without its own page stayed beyond position 40.

Fix: one page per important service, written for what people search.

 8. Huge images without alt text

5 MB photos uploaded as-is that slow the site down, and no
alt
attribute, which is what Google (and screen readers) use to know what an image shows.

Fix: compress, serve modern formats (WebP or AVIF) and describe each image in its
alt
.

 9. No structured data or sitemap

Structured data (schema.org) tells Google, in its own language, that you're a local business, your hours or your FAQs. The sitemap gives it the list of all your pages.

Fix: add the schema for your business type and a sitemap submitted through Search Console.

 10. Redirect chains and duplicate versions

http://www.yoursite.com
→
https://www.yoursite.com
→
https://yoursite.com
. Every hop costs time, and serving several versions without
canonical
can look like duplicate content to Google.

Fix: pick one version of the domain, reach it in a single hop, and add a
canonical
tag to every page.

Check your website in 10 seconds — The free SEO checker reviews almost all of these points

 Frequently asked questions

Which of these mistakes is the most serious?

The forgotten
noindex
, because the site doesn't appear at all. After that, not working on mobile and having no visible content in the HTML.

 Can I fix this myself?

Some yes (titles, descriptions, alt text) from your site's admin. Others, like invisible content or redirects, usually need whoever maintains the site. If you'd rather hand it over, it's part of what I do in web design and SEO in Ourense.

If I fix these, will I rank first?

Not necessarily. Fixing them is the technical foundation; ranking also depends on content, competition, reviews and links.
