Will a real estate enterprise thrive or not depends entirely on how fast it will adopt new technology. That's why it's high time to create a real estate web app based on recent technological advancements.

Today, we want to share with you how to build a real estate website, how to profit from it, and what features it must include to keep up with the demand.

Whether you own a real estate agency or want to create a platform where people can sell their housing, read the article to know all the peculiarities of building a real estate website.

 How Did It All Start?

The industry of real estate relies heavily on new technology. The message about new and fashionable mansions being vacant had to be spread fast at all times. Initially, the newspapers did their job. But with time, even they couldn't manage to keep up with the pace at which new ads started to emerge. And here, once again, we will pronounce a eulogy on the internet.

Obviously, the main accomplishment of the internet was reinvigorating the real estate market. People find renting, selling, and buying online a win-win deal.

The National Association of Realtors conducted research that showed that 97% of all homebuyers in 2020 searched for available accommodation options online. 51% of the respondents found the home they eventually bought through the internet, while only 28% resorted to the help of a real estate agent.

The popularity of real estate websites can be explained by the simple fact that it’s much more convenient.

Let’s look from the perspective of a tenant or a homebuyer to figure out what they value most while using an online real estate platform.

 Why Do People Use Real Estate Platforms to Find a Property?

Whether it sounds like grandma's grumbling or not, new technology has isolated us from each other. So we, having become individualists, don’t want to waste any more time on poor real estate agents who can be, to put it mildly, quite annoying. We want to click on the icons on the screens, and within seconds, start to scroll through the most suitable housing options.

But here is the first issue we encounter: there can be thousands of them, and we don’t want to see everything available on the market, but only, let’s say, one-bedrooms unfurnished with a monthly rate of around a thousand dollars. This takes us to the need for an advanced search filter to get appropriate results quickly.

Then, we naturally expect a website we use to be fast, pleasant to use, and safe. Very safe as we want to ensure it with our personal information.

Last but not least, we need an inordinate number of photos and videos from different angles to assess the aesthetics of accommodation.

Reminisce on your personal experience of looking for a flat online. You've probably wanted something similar to this.

It’s always a good idea to first look at the situation from a user’s point of view. That’s how we can shape the image of the perfect final result. The profit of our venture utterly depends on how useful it will be for our clients. That’s why they should be our first priority.

Now, keeping this in the back of our minds, we can start choosing the type of real estate website we want to build.

 Types of Real Estate Platforms

To build a profitable real estate website, we need to get a comprehensive picture of all the viable options and possibilities lying ahead of us. There are five types of real estate websites that can be created.

 *Real Estate Investing Websites*

What do investors do? They find something to capitalize on to gain a profit from it when the venture succeeds. Thus, real estate investing websites are also built to help investors to find the right property into which it’ll be more reasonable for them to put their money. To do this, they need to keep track of all the modern trends and changes in the market.

Before the advent of the internet, they relied solely on real estate agents. Today, they can go to a real estate website, do some research, and render a decision.

Actually, a non-specialized real estate website can also include functions to assist investors in finding the most profitable option, and there are a few websites designed specifically for investors. But we will cover the topic a little bit further, so bear with us.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

 *Real Estate Marketplaces*

This one is a middle ground between buyers and sellers, tenants and renters. The concept boils down to the opportunity for people and companies to list a housing and search for it in one place.

Airbnb is one of the most popular real estate websites (Source: Airbnb website).

The most popular real estate websites that pop up in our minds are exactly the marketplaces: Zillow, Airbnb, Booking. Multi-vendor website development allows us to fill them with a huge number of features so that they stand out from the rest of the websites.

 *Property Management Apps*

These ones are built for property owners to manage rent collections, deal with accounting and payments, track expenses, and supervise other tasks that are usually needed to be handled by multi-family property owners or people who rent several housings and want to keep everything well-managed.

One of the features that can be embedded in such a website can be the possibility of online rent payments and notifications for tenants about upcoming payments.

 *Property Listing Websites*

Don’t confuse them with multi-vendor marketplaces. Property listing websites became the first response of real estate agents when the popularity of their services started to shrink. Having adapted to the new reality, they also went online and started to list estates on special websites. Surely, property owners can do it here as well. So users just scroll through various accommodation options and connect to the ones who sell them.

 *Promotion Website*

These types of websites are built to promote the services of a single company. Here, they may publish the property that is available for rent and for sale, write blog posts pertinent to the real estate world, and inform visitors of the latest offers.

 *Mixed Model Platforms*

Even though the formal typification of real estate websites exists, it doesn’t mean that you can’t build one that combines the functionalities of several types. It can be a website for buying and managing property. Or take booking.com, it went its own way, and now allows people to rent and pay not only for accommodation but also for airline tickets.

Booking is a mixed model real estate website (Source: Booking website).

So muse on what services you would like to provide to your users on the website. Sometimes the boldest ideas can be brought to life with the right approach and a team of creme de la creme engineers. Custom real estate software development will always beat a mediocre off-the-shelf product.

 Real Estate Web Application Development: Solutions With a CRM

Regardless of what type of real estate website you ultimately opt for, Customer Relationship Management systems, or CRM, are necessary for any of them.

In the real estate business, interaction with clients is of great importance, and a large database of clients is a valuable asset. CRM will help you to collect information about every client and keep track of all their transactions so that you can send them personalized and automated letters and reminders. CRM provides you with an opportunity to understand your target audience and make reasonable decisions based on the information gathered.

 Integration of a Real Estate Marketplace With MLS

It's highly recommended to embed an MLS, a multiple listing service, into a real estate website. It's actually a huge database that encompasses a number of regional databases.

Real estate agents and brokers incessantly add various listings into the database, usually with a precise description of all the peculiarities of the property. Having MLS integrated into your website will provide potential homebuyers with a much larger set of listings, and homesellers with the opportunity to get their property the most eyeballs.

The concept of MLS is closely connected with the concept of IDX, or Internet Data Exchange. In layman's terms, it’s a guideline, adherence to which allows for the usage of MLS sources across various platforms.

So integrate MLS into your website via IDX to showcase not only your listings, but everything available on the market.

 Features of a Real Estate Platform That Can't Be Ignored

Although this article is slowly turning into an ode to perpetual technological advancement, we want to point out once again that this is exactly what allows us to keep our real estate business growing. We won’t spout some platitudes about the importance of high-quality photos and complex search filters. Instead, let’s focus on the features of real estate websites that will make the process of real estate web development a creative journey.

Still, remember, these are just bare bones that can be morphed into something much bigger with your creativity and business acumen.

*Live Chat*

Remember when we mentioned that a lot of young people don’t want to interact with a real estate agent? It’s true, but we never said interaction with an online form of a human. You can integrate a chat into the website, and a human, under the disguise of an online assistant, will help a user with questions regarding the rules of living in a condominium, financial particulars, or other inquiries that not-experts-in-real-estate expect to be answered, without bouncing to other websites to find the info.

*Calculator*

Buying, selling, and renting are always big deals that can result in great pecuniary loss. To provide a user with another layer of security, consider embedding a calculator while creating a real estate website.

It can be a mortgage calculator that will help a visitor calculate what their approximate monthly payments will be.

An example of a mortgage calculator at Zillow (Source: Zillow website).

For those who are trying to sell a house, you can introduce the feature of estimating property value. With the help of machine learning techniques and big data, a user will be able to see the cost of their housing according to its location, neighborhood, number of rooms, and other factors.

A calculator can show not only how much a person can net from selling their property but also the amount to be spent on bureaucratic matters.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

*Blog*

When creating real estate marketplaces or other types of a website, add a blog section. Anyone who has ever been engaged in selling or buying a house knows that during this time, your eagerness to learn all the traps and pitfalls is as high as ever. Confide in a visitor the biggest secrets of the real estate business, share some insider tips with them, and they will soon become your regulars.

Having a blog is also a good way to improve the SEO rankings of your real estate website. We bet you want search engines to put it among the first in the list.

*Registration*

If someone visited a real estate website, most probably, it was for a reason. Whatever this reason might be, we have to ensure that a person will come back to our website, or, at least, won’t forget about its existence. That’s why the registration feature can allow you to have a user’s e-mail and keep them updated on new housing options by sending them personalized letters, that is possible, by the way, with the help of CRM.

But you should be careful with this one. Sometimes, extra steps and hassle can backfire, and a user will just take a French leave. Make the registration step optional and as smooth and fast as possible.

Extra tip: add a block of text to the pop-up registration box emphasizing the benefits of registration for the user.

*Maps*

Some consider the feature redundant. Some believe that building a real estate platform without a map is absurd. We suggest including the feature to be sure that map-lovers will love our website. At the end, with their help, people may check local coffee shops, traffic, and streetlights.

*Integrated Payment System*

Allowing users to pay rent to their landlords, or some up-front costs for booking a flat can make your venture even more lucrative by charging fees for the transaction held through your website. Users also benefit from it, as paying in advance will serve to ensure the place won’t be sold to anyone else.

*Calendar*

This feature will provide users with the opportunity to make plans without leaving your website. It allows booking flats by simply tapping on the dates. Calendars may show a renter what dates are already booked.

If a user wants to look over the chosen property, they may check a real estate agent’s or owner’s availability, and plan their visits accordingly. To add even more convenience, you can synchronize it with Google Calendar.

*Real Estate Apps*

The real estate industry has come a long way from spreading the news about vacant housing by means of offline communication to reaching out to a global audience through the internet. It was clear that advertisements promulgated through an online medium have much higher chances of reaching out to a broader audience, but it turned out that one online channel is often not enough.

Real estate apps are extremely popular in App Store and Google Play.

That’s why building a real estate mobile app to complement a real estate website has become another way to boost the bottom line and attract clients.

Apps allow users to search for housing options on their phones or check how many views and offers their listings have received. You may invest money in native mobile app development, but keep in mind that you will have to build at least two different apps in two different programming languages. If you have a mature company that can afford native mobile app development, go for it.

If you are a new player in the field, it’s a great chance to start with real estate web portal development from the very beginning. Do you have any idea about what this is? Let us give you a hint: they’re running on all types of browsers and devices. But we will elaborate on this trend in real estate website development a little bit later.

*Calls To Action*

Having multiple strategic call to action buttons on the website increases the conversion rates. They may be as simple as "Contact us" and "Read more," but they incentivize users to interact with a website, explore it, and finally make a purchase, which in our case is renting or booking housing.

By the way, this is not the only way of making money on a real estate website. Surprised?

 How Do Real Estate Platforms Make Money?

Everyone is rambling about real estate websites' being lucrative, as if it were something that goes without saying. Some people actually believe that financial gain is only received through the transactions conducted on the website, but it’s only one of the possible ways to earn money. Without further ado, let us tell you all the financial benefits that creating a real estate website can bring.

*Advertising*

It’s one of the most popular monetization models for websites. If you know your target audience, it will be much more profitable for you to leverage the space on your website to sell advertisements (hinting at the importance of CRM once again).

Still, you should be careful with this one. If the ads are relevant to your audience, they simply won’t click on them. Hence, companies won’t place ads on your website.

You should also choose the proper space for placing ads; be sure you’re not placing an ad for your competitor and there aren't too many of them.

Extra tip: include advertisements in your blog posts to promote your affiliate company's services.

*Premium Features*

It usually goes like this: all the features of a real estate website we enlisted above reinvigorate your desire for making a real estate website with a set of unique features. You put a lot of financial and mental resources into them, and your brain child is finally here. You feel that it would be unjust to let everyone use all its features for free. That’s why you only give access to the full package of features to the premium users who paid for it. The rest will only use the basic set.

Give new users a free trial period so that they can feel how advantageous these features can be. For example, it can have the feature of boosting a listing. Once the free trial ends, a user won’t want to receive a much smaller number of views and will be more prone to paying for access.

*Subscription*

Every real estate agent wants to list their property on a real estate platform. You can offer them different pricing plans to allow them to post as many listings as they need. The more convenient and popular your platform is, the bigger amount you can charge.

The cost of pricing plans can vary not only according to the number of listings available, but also the access to some of the features.

Just like "Buy five beers and get french fries for free" but where beers are listings, and french fries is a real estate app for property management. Get it?

*Featured Listing*

Under the competitive climate of real estate marketplaces, one of the biggest sources of income is providing featured listings to real estate agents and homeowners. Basically, you’re just putting their listing on the homepage or at the top of the search results, so that their offering attracts a much bigger number of views than the ones who decided not to pay for becoming a local celebrity.

 Software Development Trends In Real Estate

Like in any other industry, real estate solutions have their own trends, including technological ones. Let's take a closer look at them!

*Augmented And Virtual Reality*

COVID-19 made it impossible for us to visit a property physically. But we’re longing to walk around the apartment, assess the quality of wallpaper, and look through a bedroom window.

An example of wise use of AR tech in the real estate industry (Source: Realtor.com website).

That’s why many real estate business owners enhance their websites with AR and VR technology that allows people to take virtual tours around a property. And with the most advanced VR technology, we can even take a bike tour around the neighborhood!

*The Internet of Things(IoT)*

IoT devices have shifted the real estate industry to a whole new level. In a nutshell, the technology is inserted into the usual objects that gather and receive information from the internet and analyze it.

The Internet of Things helps the real estate industry with monitoring buildings for abnormalities, such as detecting smoke, high pressure, and other hazards. Moreover, they can identify if some house components need urgent repair and check them for other inconsistencies. It allows real estate agents to offer clients accommodation that is safe and warn homeowners about possible risks.

One of the latest innovations is placing beacons around the property on-sale. When a potential buyer who has a company’s mobile app installed visits the property, passing by the beacon will trigger the mobile app, which, in turn, notifies a client about a special discount or gives them a piece of interesting information about the housing.

VR tours, by the way, have also become even more realistic with IoT sensors providing real-time photos.

*Cloud Apps*

Today, more and more real estate business owners are opting for cloud application development rather than usual apps. It provides much greater scalability as an app is mainly connected to a cloud infrastructure and not physical hardware. As it’s built with the cloud environment, business owners won’t have a need to hire special engineers to maintain servers as this job is done by big cloud infrastructure providers.

*Web Portal Development*

Finally, we’re here. Remember, we promised you to tell you about web portal development?

Web portals run smoothly on different types of browsers and devices, and you won’t need to waste a huge sum on building several apps for different platforms.

The benefits of web portals (Source: Fively).

The main difference between web portals and average websites is that the first provides only personalized information for a particular user, depending on their needs. And this is the reason why only registered people have access to a web portal’s content.

So basically, web portals are used to provide every user and customer with a customized experience and content on any device.

Check web portal pricing if you feel that this solution will be helpful for your real estate business.

Nearly 37% of startups die due to a lack of profitability or capital. The good news is that there is a way to test an idea’s viability and avoid wastage. We mean MVP development. If you are interested in this effective and straightforward methodology, this blog post will help to sort out the details.

 What is an MVP?

Imagine you have to create and launch your product immediately and with no huge investment. What features would you add by all means and what are the options to be omitted? This simple version though saving the basics of your idea is the Minimum Viable Product. Its mission is to validate your idea and collect maximum feedback with minimal effort.

This approach to product launch has many supporters because:

 It helps you to test a hypothesis with minimum resources involved;

 It helps you to identify the early adopters of your product;

 It helps you to get feedback in the short term;

 It creates your reputation;

 It helps you to test pricing models;

 It protects you from making mistakes and budget losses

Thus, your minimum viable product may become your most valuable player.

 How to Build an MVP

Even though making a product minimum means adding fewer features, there are some things to be worked out. To make it easier, we would like to offer you a structured process that we recommend to our customers at Fively.

 1.Identify Your Market Needs

You may think that your idea will rock the market but without analysis and data, it’s merely your opinion. Before launching any product you should make sure that there are people who want and are going to like your solution.

We recommend you analyze your potential customers and their pains. Market research, surveys, open data resources will help you with that. Besides, do not forget to look at your direct and indirect competitors. Make a comparative table or a SWOT analysis to make sure your offer will stand out.

These measures will help you to formalize a concept or give it up without time and money waste.

 2. Define Your Product Value

Formulate a clear statement that will deliver the information on the benefits of your offer. If the users don’t catch the idea immediately, they won’t adopt your solution.

A good value proposition should be supported by facts, formulated with the help of customer logic, and focused on a specific audience segment.

A unique value or selling proposition will help you to define the pool of features to be included in the MVP. In addition to that, you can use it for further marketing campaigns.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

 3. Design Your Customer Journey

The customer-centric approach is your indispensable assistant. Look at your solution from the customers’ perspective and describe possible scenarios of interacting with your product. It’s useful to record every step from opening your app to accomplishing the ultimate goal and/or closing the app.

You’ll get a user flow and understand what tasks your solution should carry out. This approach is far more effective than the attempts to invent and describe certain features that may be detached from reality. A user flow is a way to customers’ satisfaction and higher conversions.

 4. Rank the Features

List all the features you want to add to your MVP. Then think about them in terms of priority - which ones are necessary and which ones can be omitted. Classify your features as high-, medium-, and low-priority ones. This is an important step before the actual development works.

If you can’t quite decide, try the following criteria. Think about the impact of a feature and its urgency for the ultimate solution. When both indicators are high, you should definitely include this feature in the top-priority part and in your future MVP as well.

 5. Choose the Right MVP Developers

In fact, you may start with this step and get back to the unique selling proposition part and other analytical work when you find a contractor. However, from our past experience, we can state that it’s much easier for both parties when we can deal with data and plans rather than with vague ideas.

You can pick up between hiring an in-house developer or a freelancer, or outsource MVP development. If you aren’t familiar with the process, we recommend you to look at our blog posts ‘How to Decide Which Outsourcing Provider to Work With’ and ‘How to Find the Right Freelancer on UpWork’.

In general, offshore MVP development will cost you less and there is a pretty good chance that you will find high-class professionals.

 6. Create a Prototype

Once you understand customer flow and high-priority features, get a prototype created. It should be clickable and demonstrate the UX/UI that you are going to use hereafter. It’s a great way to validate your design, attract early adopters and investors. A prototype is an MVP for a real MVP. Skipping this stage can lead to a sales failure as it happened to Steve Jobs during his work on the Apple Lisa.

 7. Create, Test, and Learn

Once you have done the things above, it’s time to start the development. When the first version is ready, pass it to the hands of QA engineers. Then it’s time to show your product to your inner circle - so-called alpha testing. After that, show your product to the public in the format of beta testing. These steps are important for making improvements and usually take up to two weeks.

After the testing period, gather user feedback and consider what else can be improved. Adopt those improvements and go back to the learning stage. Ultimately, you’ll get a complete product that your customers will love.

Are you standing on the threshold of building a new product? Let’s create your MVP success story together!

5 Steps to Make a Mobile App Idea Happen

So, a brilliant idea came to your mind, and now you want to know how to develop an app. Congratulations! You’re at the beginning of a thrilling adventure. To make it safer, we’ve pointed out the steps you shouldn’t miss to get things real. Without waiting any longer, let’s open the door to the dream and discuss what to do with an app idea to make it work.

 Describe It

So, you're probably thinking something like "I have an app idea, where do I start?" First things first, frame a mobile app idea in writing. Without this step, it’s only a vague dream in your mind like "I have an idea for an app", but no certain criteria. When you note down a concept, you’ll structure it, and make your app idea development more precise and detailed. Ask yourself the following questions:

 What are my clients like?

 What problems do my future users have?

 How will my app meet these needs?

 What will it look like?

 Who are my competitors? What kind of advantages do they have?

 Can I offer any unique options?

 How to sell my app idea?

The answers will serve to understand a unique selling proposition and get a clear representation of the final application.

 Think About Investments

As a matter of fact, even a great idea for an app can die unborn without financing. To prevent that from happening to you, think about money in advance. You may use some personal savings, take a loan, use crowdfunding, or, what is common, find a partner, a co-founder, or an investor. If you aren’t planning only to count on yourself, you’ll need a clear business plan to explain to other participants the future benefits hidden in your mobile app idea.

 Find a Developer

Proceeding from the previous actions, you got a clear understanding of the project. It means you’re supposed to wonder how to develop an app idea and look for the right developer for a mobile app. It can be either a freelancer or a company. Check their portfolios, ratings, reviews, and get ready to share your vision. If you plan to protect the idea from being shared with third parties, ask to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). The specialist will help to validate the idea, as well as give some tips on how to get an app idea developed quicker.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

 Get Ready for the Launch

While the development team is doing the job, prepare the ground for the release. It’s highly recommended to decide in advance, on what platform you’d like to place the app. It will predetermine the stack and algorithm of deployment. Also, inform the future users that you've got an app idea. Send emails at least to friends and colleagues. You may find relevant communities on Facebook, Reddit, LinkedIn, and inform their members about your idea for a buyer app. It’s also a good idea to pitch bloggers and website editors to get a promo. The marketing part is crucial in selling app ideas. Spend some time and money for it, otherwise, the application will stay unnoticed.

 Keep on Improving

It’s not over when you launch an app. Do not forget that the market is constantly evolving as well as your clients’ demands. Even the brightest mobile app idea may depreciate without timely updates. You might have heard about Kaizen, a Japanese concept of constant improvements. Work with a ready app clearly demonstrates this idea - you take small but consistent steps leading to a big upgrade. So, you should follow mobile app trends, analyze the clients’ feedback, make use of new tools when there’s an occasion. If you've run out of good thoughts, you can even Google something like "how to copyright an idea for an app", and stumble upon really good insights this way.

Now you’re not only inspired by your idea but have an action plan what to do if you have an idea for an app. The first step is always the hardest. Do not be afraid though. Try to gain support and find a trustworthy mobile development company like Fively. The app market is changing every year and probably you’re the one who will make a difference.

Need Help With A Project?
Drop us a line, let’s arrange a discussion

Today, we’ll compare these industry leaders in practice, dissecting their strengths, weaknesses, and overall performance in the AWS cloud environment. Join me as we delve into this exciting showdown and determine who truly leads the race in cloud development. Let’s start.

 What Is Amazon Q?

Amazon Q, the latest generative AI tool from Amazon, is a game-changer for cloud computing enthusiasts and professionals. It’s not just an asset for those navigating the complexities of Amazon Web Services (AWS), but a versatile platform aimed at assisting a wide range of users, including business analysts, service center operators, and supply chain experts.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

 Comparison of Amazon Q and ChatWithCloud

So, what tool is better in practice? ChatWithCloud creators state that their tool distinguishes itself by delivering an interactive and personalized approach to managing AWS resources. In contrast to AWS Config, ChatWithCloud supports dynamic, conversational interactions, enhancing the user experience beyond the static query transformation offered by AWS Config.

Is it really so? Let’s now check it out.

I’ll give now both Amazon Q and ChatWithCloud several tasks to perform, and compare how they solve them:

Please, analyze the inbound and outbound rules of my security groups to identify any overly permissive settings.

Amazon Q:
It looks like you need help with network connectivity issues. Amazon Q works with VPC Reachability Analyzer to provide an interactive generative AI experience for troubleshooting network connectivity issues.

ChatWithCloud:
Security Group ID sg-xxxx has an outbound rule that allows all traffic (
IpProtocol: -1
) to all IPv4 addresses (
0.0.0.0/0
). No overly permissive inbound rules were detected.

To my mind, ChatWithCloud here wins, as it gives more tailored and detailed answers, that can be applied to practice right away.

_Now, let’s analyze AWS billing and usage to identify potential cost savings.
_
Amazon Q:

Set up a cost allocation tag and ensure all your resources are tagged correctly. This will help track usage and costs by different teams or projects.

Enable the AWS Cost & Usage Report to get detailed billing data. Store this in an S3 bucket for analysis.

Use cost analysis tools like AWS Cost Explorer to visualize your spending by service, account, region, etc. This can help identify top resources for optimization.

Set up budget alerts in AWS Budgets to get notified if costs exceed thresholds. Start with a low threshold like 120% of the previous month’s spend.

Analyze trends to see usage patterns and rightsize resources during non-peak periods. For example, scale down EC2 instances or RDS databases.

Use AWS Trusted Advisor checks to find unused resources, security groups, etc that can be cleaned up.

Consider reserved instances or savings plans for services with steady usage to save on costs.

Integrate cost data with other tools like Athena, Redshift, or QuickSight for deeper analysis of trends and anomalies over time.

ChatWithCloud:

AWS Key Management Service (KMS): There’s a charge of $0.060 despite a high number of operations (9042), which suggests active use but might benefit from a cost-optimization review, such as checking if all keys are necessary or if they could be rotated less frequently to save costs.

AWS WAF: The current cost is $0.444 with a significant number of requests (17926). You may want to review the rules to ensure they are efficient and necessary.

Amazon EC2 Container Registry (ECR): With costs at $0.679 for 6.79 units of usage, you may want to clean up unused images or review lifecycle policies to reduce storage costs.

Amazon Elastic Load Balancing (ELB): The cost is $2.701 for 120.21 units of usage. Reviewing the load balancing usage patterns may lead to cost optimization, such as downsizing or resizing the load balancer based on actual traffic patterns or using a more cost-effective load balancing strategy.

Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS): Costs $1.559 for 49.70 units of usage. You may consider reserved instances or downsizing the database instance if the usage pattern allows.

Amazon CloudWatch: Costs stand at $2.303 for 6.70 units of usage. Consider reviewing the monitoring needs and adjusting the CloudWatch metrics and alarms to the essential set.

Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS): Costs $1.481 for 90.02 units of usage. Investigate whether there are overprovisioned services or if on-demand instances could be replaced by cheaper options like spot instances.

Here, despite Amazon Q giving a detailed step-by-step strategy, ChatWithCloud again turned out to be more practice-oriented, as it gave all the costs associated with the usage of various AWS tools and direct recommendations on cutting them.

📌 Right now you can get a free consultation on your project if you contact our engineers. We will help you plan the project budget correctly.

Recommend, please, performance improvements for my RDS instances.

Amazon Q:

Check if you can optimize any queries running on the database through query profiling and indexing. Enabling the slow query log can help identify queries that need optimization.

Use Amazon RDS Performance Insights to monitor your database workload and identify optimization opportunities in your application code and database configuration.

Consider upgrading the instance type if the current instance is not powerful enough to handle the workload. However, test the instance change in a non-production environment first to avoid any downtime.

Set proper scaling configurations for read replicas to automatically add/remove capacity based on CPU utilization metrics. This will help handle load spikes without performance issues.

Consider caching frequently accessed static data using Amazon ElastiCache (Redis or Memcached) to reduce database load. You can cache query results, API responses, etc to improve performance.

ChatWithCloud:
It seems that there are currently no RDS instances present in the environment, so no performance improvements can be recommended at this time. If you have recently created or modified RDS instances, please ensure they are within the same credential scope or appropriate region being checked, and we can re-evaluate them accordingly.

Here, Amazon Q is definitely the winner, because it gave several handy recommendations, while ChatWithCloud is mistaken and gave the wrong answer, as actually in this example I do have RDS instances.

Perform a compliance check against the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

Amazon Q:
To perform a compliance check against the AWS Well-Architected Framework, you can use the AWS Well-Architected Tool. The tool allows you to review your approach before development, evaluate the state of your workloads before production, and monitor workloads already in production.

Some key things you can do with the AWS Well-Architected Tool:

Compare your workload architectures against best practices laid out in the Well-Architected Framework. This allows you to identify any gaps or non-compliant areas.

Monitor the overall status and health of your workload architectures. The tool provides a consolidated view of how your workloads measure up against the Framework.

Gain insights into potential risks in your architectures. The tool evaluation helps surface any security, reliability, performance, or operational issues that need to be addressed.

Use the results and recommendations from the tool to further optimize your architectures and ensure they are well-architected as per AWS guidelines.

ChatWithCloud:
There are currently no workloads found for a compliance check against the AWS Well-Architected Framework. To perform such an analysis, you should have workloads defined in the AWS Well-Architected Tool. Workloads are used to represent your applications and can be assessed against the best practices outlined in the framework.

Please ensure that you have defined workloads within the Well-Architected Tool and that they are in the scope of the credentials provided. Once you have workloads defined, we could then perform a compliance check on them.

I think, that ChatWithCloud here wins again, as it gives direct recommendations that can be used right away.

Help me identify if any of the S3 buckets are open to the world.

Amazon Q:
It looks like you need help with network connectivity issues. Amazon Q works with VPC Reachability Analyzer to provide an interactive generative AI experience for troubleshooting network connectivity issues.

ChatWithCloud:
After checking the S3 buckets for public access, the following buckets are identified as open to the world:

a comprehensive list of buckets

As you can see, ChatWithCloud is the winner, as it performed exactly what I needed, while Amazon Q just gave abstract recommendations.

Thus, as a result of our experiment, you can see that ChatWithCloud definitely outperforms Azamon Z in most of the cases, just as was stated by them, so if you wonder what tool is better to choose, I would recommend you pay attention to a promising freshman ChatWithCloud.

 Wrapping Up

As we wrap up our deep dive into the dynamic realm of cloud development tools, it’s evident that the competition between Amazon Q and ChatWithCloud revealed a clear frontrunner. ChatWithCloud, with its direct, practical, and user-centric approach, has demonstrated a remarkable edge over Amazon Q in terms of providing actionable, relevant solutions in the AWS cloud environment.

For cloud developers and architects seeking an AI-assisted tool that aligns with practical needs and enhances efficiency, ChatWithCloud emerges as the recommended choice. As we continue to witness advancements in this field, one thing is certain: the future of cloud development is bright, and tools like ChatWithCloud are leading the way into a more streamlined, intuitive, and effective era.

🔹 This is the end of our experiment, so, if you liked it, sign up and stay tuned for more like this.

Discover what is data pipeline and ETL, how these two concepts differ, what is ELT, and which data management approach is better to choose for your company needs.

In today’s data-driven world changing at a turbo speed, the way we process and analyze our data is crucial. Such well-known methods as Data Pipeline and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) are the fundamental ways of managing data that anyone in the field of data engineering and software development must grapple with.

While both play pivotal roles in data strategy, they are not the same. In this article, we will help you to distinguish between these two terms, and also advice on how to choose the right one for your data needs. Let’s dive in!

 Explaining Data Pipelines

First, let’s concentrate on the data pipeline, as this is a broader concept than ETL. Imagine a data pipeline as a highway system for data. It’s an automated process that moves raw data from various sources to a destination where it can be stored, analyzed, and accessed. This highway isn’t limited to a single type of vehicle or cargo; it’s versatile, moving data in real-time or in batches, structured or unstructured.

Why the use of data pipelines matters in data management and storage:

Speed and Efficiency: they enable swift movement of data, making it available for analysis almost immediately;

Flexibility: they can handle different data formats and structures, adapting as needs evolve;

Scalability: as data volume grows, pipelines can expand to accommodate the load.

A data pipeline’s endpoint can vary widely, encompassing databases, apps, cloud data warehouses, or even data lakehouses. These systems excel at gathering data from a variety of sources, efficiently structuring it for thorough and effective analysis.

 How Data Pipelines Are Used in Business Operations?

Data pipelines play a pivotal role in the modern data ecosystem, enabling businesses to efficiently harness and analyze data from various sources. These pipelines are especially valuable for entities that manage numerous isolated data silos, need real-time data analysis, or operate with cloud-stored data.

Here are a few examples and use cases where data pipelines demonstrate their utility:

Predictive analysis for future trends: data pipelines can execute predictive analysis to anticipate future market trends or customer behaviors, providing invaluable insights for strategic planning;

Supply chain optimization: in a production context, data pipelines can forecast when resources might deplete, helping in proactive resource management. This can extend to predicting supplier-related delays, ensuring a smoother supply chain;

Enhanced operational efficiency: By leveraging data pipelines, a production department can streamline its operations, reducing waste and optimizing processes;

Real-time data insights for decision making: Businesses that depend on real-time data for quick decision-making find data pipelines indispensable. These tools provide up-to-the-minute insights, crucial in fast-paced sectors like finance or e-commerce;

Cloud data management: For organizations with cloud-based data storage, data pipelines facilitate efficient data transfer, transformation, and analysis across cloud platforms;

Customer experience enhancement: By analyzing customer interaction data across multiple touchpoints, data pipelines can help tailor personalized experiences, increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty;

Healthcare data analysis: In healthcare, data pipelines can integrate patient data from various sources for more comprehensive care delivery and research.

Thus, data pipelines, with their versatile applications, are not just a technological innovation but a cornerstone of data-driven decision making in modern businesses.

 ETL Explained

Now, let’s proceed to the ETL concept. ETL stands for Extract, Transform, and Load, and it encapsulates the essential processes used in data warehousing to prepare and transport data for effective usage.

It is the traditional process used to gather data from multiple sources, reformat and clean it up, and then deposit it into a data warehouse. It’s like a factory assembly line where raw materials (data) are refined and packaged into a finished product (information).

Let’s figure out what this means:

Extraction: This is the initial phase where data is gathered from heterogeneous sources, which could range from traditional databases, like SQL or NoSQL, to files in various formats, or even cloud services that aggregate data from marketing tools, sales platforms, or operational systems.

Transformation: Here, the extracted data undergoes a metamorphosis, changing shape or form to align with the target destination’s requirements. This might involve cleansing, aggregating, summarizing, or reformatting the data.

Loading: In the final leg of its journey, the data arrives at its new home, be it a structured database, a centralized data warehouse, or modern cloud-based data repositories from providers like Snowflake, Amazon RedShift, and Google BigQuery, ready for analysis and business intelligence activities.

The significance of using the ETL method in data management can’t be overestimated:

Data integrity: the transformation phase ensures that the data is consistent and of high quality;

Compatibility: ETL standardizes data into a format that’s usable further in data pipelines and across the organization;

Historical context: storing transformed data allows for historical analysis and the use of business intelligence tools over time.

The endpoint of an ETL process, just like in a data pipeline, is crucially versatile, encompassing a range of possibilities such as databases, applications, and data lakes. These destinations are particularly proficient at gathering data from various origins and structuring it in a manner that facilitates efficient and thorough analysis, essential for drawing actionable insights.

 ETL vs. ELT: Two Strategic Data Frameworks

The data management landscape offers two primary pathways for preparing data for analysis — ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform). At a glance, they may seem nearly identical, but the difference lies in the sequence and strategy of data preparation.

ETL is the classic approach where data transformation occurs before loading. It’s a premeditated process suitable for scenarios where the data usage patterns are well-defined and consistent. By transforming data upfront, it’s primed and ready for specific business intelligence needs upon entering the data warehouse.

ELT, on the other hand, flips the script, loading data directly into the data warehouse and transforming it thereafter. This approach is gaining traction in environments rich with diverse analytical tools, offering the agility to mold data to various analytical demands on an ad-hoc basis.

The ETL process is perfect for small data sets that require complex transformations, while for larger, unstructured data sets and when timeliness is important, the ELT process is more appropriate.

Let’s look now at how these two similar data management approaches compare in various parameters, such as data preparation, infrastructure needed, speed, scalability, and other:

Though ETL and ELT may differ in their processes and methodologies, they both converge on a singular goal: to optimize and transform data, ensuring it is primed for insightful analysis and strategic decision-making.

 How ETL Pipelines Are Used in Business Operations?

ETL pipelines serve as the backbone of data-driven decision-making, offering a unified view of an organization’s diverse data landscape. These pipelines are instrumental in aggregating data from disparate sources, thereby providing a cohesive and enriched data ecosystem that powers analytics and strategic insights.

Consider a multinational corporation aiming to harness its global sales data. An ETL pipeline can extract data from various sales platforms, transforming this information to align with the company’s analytical framework before loading it into a centralized data warehouse. This consolidation enables leadership to gauge performance metrics across markets with precision.

Let’s look at some real-world applications of ETL pipelines:

Data Centralization: Objective: Unify disparate data sources into one accessible repository. Impact: Creates a holistic view of organizational data, enhancing cross-departmental synergy.

Data Store Synchronization: Objective: Migrate and standardize data across varied internal storage systems. Impact: Streamlines internal workflows, promoting efficiency and clarity in data handling.

CRM Enhancement: Objective: Integrate external data streams into CRM systems for a comprehensive customer profile. Impact: Deepens customer understanding, enabling personalized engagement and service.

Business Intelligence: Objective: Transform raw data into actionable insights through advanced analytics dashboards. Impact: Empowers decision-makers with real-time data visualizations and predictive analytics.

🔥 Need a Project Estimation?
Let’s calculate the price of your project with Fively.
👉 Estimate a project

By leveraging ETL pipelines, companies can distill complex data into actionable intelligence, fueling growth and competitive advantage. Whether it’s a granular analysis of customer behavior or a macroscopic view of global operations, ETL pipelines are pivotal in transforming raw data into strategic assets.

The concepts “ETL pipeline” and “data pipeline” often get used interchangeably, yet there’s a clear distinction between them: data pipeline encompasses all data movement strategies between systems, while ETL pipeline is a specific subtype, focused on extracting, transforming, and loading data.

 How Is ETL Used in Data Pipelines?

ETL stands as a fundamental component in the architecture of numerous data pipelines. Quite often, data pipelines are designed around the ETL process, forming what is commonly referred to as an ETL data pipeline. This setup is pivotal in harmonizing data extraction, transformation, and loading procedures.

Crucially, while ETL is traditionally seen as a batch process, its role in the modern data pipeline is far more dynamic. Today’s ETL pipelines can adeptly support real-time data analysis, evolving into what is known as streaming data pipelines. This adaptation allows for continuous and immediate data processing, which is essential in scenarios where timely data insights are critical — for instance, in financial trading, online retail, or live customer interaction platforms.

By embedding ETL processes within data pipelines, businesses ensure not only the efficient movement of data but also its transformation into a format that’s ready for immediate analysis and action.

 Data Pipeline vs. ETL: 4 Key Differences

Now, we’re ready to compare these two very similar but separate data management methods. While a data pipeline refers to the overall flow of data from source to destination, ETL is a type of pipeline with a specific sequence of processes. I would circle 4 key differences between them:

ETL Is a Part of Data Pipeline
ETL pipelines represent a subset within the expansive domain of data pipelines. While ETL is confined to specific, batch-oriented tasks of data handling, data pipelines encompass a broader range of real-time data processing activities, offering a more holistic solution for diverse and continuous data management needs.

Data Pipelines Are Real-Time While ETL Are Batch-Oriented
Data pipelines are designed for data processing taking place right now, while ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) functions in distinct batches. For scenarios requiring up-to-the-minute reporting and analytics, broader data pipeline systems are employed. These systems facilitate continuous data movement through continuous batches, encompassing both ETL and ELT processes for real-time data flow.

Transformation Is Optional in Data Pipelines and Integral in ETL
In the realm of big data, transformations are often executed as needed, hence not all data pipelines modify data during transit. Data pipelines primarily focus on the movement of data, with transformations happening at various stages, if at all. Conversely, ETL inherently includes a transformation phase before loading data, preparing it for subsequent analysis.

ETL Ends Post-Loading While Data Pipelines No
ETL’s role concludes once data is extracted, transformed, and loaded. It’s a distinct, finite process within an ETL pipeline, ending after data is deposited into a repository. On the other hand, data pipelines might extend beyond mere data loading. In these pipelines, loading can initiate further actions, like triggering webhooks or activating additional processes and flows in interconnected systems.

 Choosing the Right Approach

Driving the line, the isn’t such a thing as the right approach here, cause the choice between a data pipeline and ETL will depend on the specific needs of your business:

Real-time analytics: Opt for a data pipeline when your business demands instantaneous insights derived from streaming data. Data pipelines excel in handling and processing data in real-time, providing up-to-the-minute analysis that is crucial for time-sensitive decisions and actions.

Data warehousing: If your primary goal is to construct and maintain a comprehensive data warehouse that serves as the foundation for your analytics, ETL is often the more suitable choice. ETL processes are tailored for batch processing and organizing data in a structured manner, making them ideal for building reliable, query-optimized data warehouses.

Complex data transformation needs: Choose ETL when your data requires extensive and complex transformations before analysis. ETL processes allow for more intricate manipulation and refinement of data, ensuring that it meets specific formats and standards required for detailed analytical tasks.

Scalable data integration from multiple sources: If your business involves integrating and processing data from a variety of sources on a large scale, a data pipeline might be the more effective solution. Data pipelines are adept at aggregating and processing large volumes of data from diverse sources, offering flexibility and scalability.

Cost-effective data management: For businesses looking for a cost-effective approach to managing large datasets without the need for immediate processing, ETL can be a more budget-friendly option. ETL’s batch processing nature often requires less computational power compared to the real-time processing of data pipelines.

Both data pipelines and ETL processes are critical in the modern data ecosystem, each serving distinct purposes. As data continues to be an invaluable asset, understanding and utilizing these processes effectively can be a significant competitive advantage.

Consider your options carefully, and remember, in the world of data, one size does not fit all. Whether you opt for the agility of data pipelines or the structured approach of ETL, the key is to align the strategy with your business objectives and data strategy.

In this research, Fively serverless specialist helped to figure out which JavaScript runtime is better: Node.js, as a gold standard, or recently appeared Bun.

In the dynamic realm of web development, JavaScript runtimes have consistently played a pivotal role. Over the years, we've seen a few key players dominate the landscape, with Node.js setting the gold standard for performance, versatility, and community support. However, as with any technology, innovation doesn't sleep.

On September 8, 2023, the world of JavaScript runtimes welcomed a formidable new entrant, Bun. They unveiled a stable release, complete with a comprehensive suite of tools such as an NPM-compatible package manager, bundler, and APIs, among others. Bun is not just a new name; it promises to bring a plethora of advantages primarily centered on performance and the overall developer experience.

With a keen focus on seamless interoperability, Bun is pitching itself as a "fresh competitor to Node.js," and is creating ripples in the community. The comparisons like "Bun vs. Node" and "Bun vs. Node.js", are becoming frequent talking points in developer circles.

But what exactly is Bun? And can it truly measure up to the might of Node.js? Let’s figure it out with our cloud solutions architect and serverless specialist Kiryl Anoshka.

 Understanding Bun

First of all, let’s figure out what JavaScript runtime is - it’s a program that extends the JS engine and provides extra functionalities, so it can interact with the outside world. Also, the JS runtime provides features and APIs to build JS-based software.

And Bun’s runtime didn't just appear out of the blue. Its inception is attributed to Jarred Sumner, a web developer whose frustrations with certain complexities and performance issues in Node.js led him to conceive an alternative. Beginning as a solo endeavor in 2022, Bun has grown exponentially, capturing the attention of web developers worldwide.

At its core, Bun is more than just a runtime. It positions itself as a comprehensive toolkit, encapsulating a runtime similar to popular choices like Node or Deno, a package manager reminiscent of NPM or pnpm, and a build tool akin to webpack or Vite. Its unique architecture, built upon the WebKit/Safari JavaScriptCore engine (as opposed to Node's V8 engine), promises speed and efficiency.

The conscious decision to circumvent any Node or NPM dependencies further emphasizes its commitment to minimizing the JavaScript stack. This streamlined approach is a stark contrast to traditional Node.js setups and is a point of intrigue for many in the community.

Highlighting some of its most notable strengths, Bun touts performance benchmarks showcasing speeds up to 10 times faster than Node.js in select scenarios. These figures, though impressive, lead to debates and the inevitable "bun vs. node.js" comparisons. Let’s go into this topic step by step.

 Bun vs Node.js: a General Overview

When diving into the world of JavaScript runtimes, it's paramount to understand the architectural and foundational differences between options. The debate between Bun and Node.js is particularly intriguing due to their contrasting designs, foundations, and overall architectures.

 Design & Foundations

Node.js, a stalwart in the runtime landscape, leverages Google's V8 engine, which is famously used by Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. It's written primarily in C++, making it both powerful and efficient for a wide range of applications.

Bun, on the other hand, adopts a novel approach, being constructed atop the WebKit/Safari JavaScriptCore engine. Rather than depending on traditional JavaScript, its libraries are crafted in C and Zig. This distinctive choice has both advantages and challenges, especially when matched against Node's tried-and-tested V8 foundation.

 Engines

Engines are pivotal to runtime performance. Node's V8 is known for its fast execution, garbage collection, and efficient JIT (Just-In-Time) compilation. It's continuously refined by Google, resulting in consistent performance upgrades.

Conversely, Bun's reliance on the JavaScriptCore engine allows it to offer unique optimization opportunities. However, it's essential to note that while V8 has been battle-tested for years in myriad scenarios, Bun's engine is relatively younger in its application outside browser contexts.

 Community Support & Ecosystem

No technology can thrive without a robust community and ecosystem. Node.js, given its tenure, boasts a massive community with a sprawling library ecosystem. NPM, its package manager, is one of the largest software registries globally. This expansive support means developers can easily find libraries, tools, or solutions for almost any challenge.

Bun, while promising, is still in its infancy. Its rapid growth, with over 100 contributors in a short span, is commendable, however, it's yet to achieve the vast ecosystem and community depth that Node.js offers.

Need a Project Estimation? 🎯
Let's calculate the price of your project with Fively.
▶ Estimate a project

 Bun vs. Node.js: Benchmarks Comparison

In the world of server-side JavaScript, Node.js has dominated for a long time. Recently, however, a new contender named Bun has emerged, promising better performance and developer experience. We've conducted a series of benchmarks to see how Bun stacks up against Node.js, particularly within a serverless context like AWS Lambda, where cold starts and compute performance matter immensely.

 Environment Configuration

For the sake of accuracy and repeatability, we used a consistent setup for our tests. Here's a breakdown of the environment:

Connection Mechanism: REST API Gateway connected to Lambda Function. This setup allowed us to measure response times from the API Gateway, ensuring a comprehensive end-to-end evaluation;

Memory Allocation: Lambda Functions were allocated 1152 MB memory, slightly more than the conventional setting, to better gauge memory-intensive operations;

Architectural Compatibility: Bun was tested on the ARM64 architecture running on Amazon Linux 2, to explore its adaptability on newer processors;

Node.js Configuration: We utilized the base runtime setup for Node.js 18.x on an x86_64 architecture, reflecting its common usage;

Concurrency Setup: Maintained a provisioned concurrency of 6, except during the cold-start test, to keep a constant inflow of requests.

 The Benchmarking Overview

1) General processing performance

Test: Generate and sort 100K random numbers 10 times consecutively.

Node.js: Median Response Time: 3400 ms;

Bun: Median Response Time: 1700 ms (-50%).

2) CRUD API Performance

Test: Implement a CRUD Update function involving a simple interaction with DynamoDB.

Node.js: Median Response Time: 22 ms;

Bun: Median Response Time: 23 ms (+4.5%).

3) Cold Start Times

Test: Execution of a "Hello World" function with induced cold starts.

Node.js: Median Response Time: 290 ms;

Bun: Median Response Time: 750 ms (+158%).

4) Memory Usage

Test: Monitoring memory consumption during CRUD operations.

Node.js: Average Memory Used: 40 MB;

Bun: Average Memory Used: 70 MB (+75%).

 Tests Interpretation

Let’s now see how Bun is compared to Node.js according to our tests' results:

<colgroup>
<col>
<col>
<col>
</colgroup>

Benchmark

Bun

Node.js

General processing performance

1700 ms

3400 ms

CRUD API Performance

23 ms

22 ms

Cold Start Times

750 ms

290 ms

Memory Usage

70 MB

40 MB

Surprisingly, despite Bun's infancy and lack of Lambda optimization, it showcased impressive CPU-bound task performance, nearly halving Node.js's compute time in our general processing test. For standard CRUD operations, Bun's performance was comparable to Node's.

However, the cold-start time, as well as memory usage was significantly higher for Bun, indicating room for improvement. According to out tests’ results, we can see that Node.js is still outperforming Bun in most of the benchmarks.

Need a Project Estimation? 🎯
Let's calculate the price of your project with Fively.
▶ Estimate a project

 Serverless: Why Node.js Wins Over Bun

The serverless paradigm has revolutionized how we perceive and develop applications. In this new frontier, the efficiency, reliability, and performance of your chosen runtime are more critical than ever. And when it comes to serverless, Node.js proves its supremacy. Let’s look in detail at how Bun is compared to Node.js in the serverless context.

 The Non-Standard Runtime Issue with Bun

Being a non-standard runtime for lambda functions, Bun presents a predicament: in cold start scenarios, this runtime needs to be downloaded repeatedly. AWS, a leading provider of serverless solutions, does not currently optimize for non-standard runtimes like Bun. This lack of optimization can lead to latency issues and affect the app's overall performance. AWS has a standard solution of provisioned concurrency, which can help to solve this problem, but this is quite expensive if your app is large.

 Cold Starts and AWS Optimizations

Cold starts are instances when a new instance of a function is initialized. These scenarios are notorious for longer initialization times. With Node.js, AWS has significant optimizations in place, ensuring minimal latency. However, with Bun's non-standard nature, the cold start times are exacerbated by the need to repeatedly download the runtime.

 The Unmatched Efficiency of Node.js

In the realm of serverless applications, efficiency is king. While Bun showcases promise in various areas, it's hard to rival Node.js's proven track record in serverless environments. The maturity, optimization, and consistent performance of Node.js ensure that when serverless is the game, Node.js remains unmatched.

Here’s how our top Cloud solutions architect and Serverless specialist Kiryl Anoshka comments on the rise of Bun:

He also emphasizes the fact that there’s no need for web developers to get an additional Bun certification now, as Node.js certification is enough.

I think that now there is no need for our developers to get Bun certification, as Node.js successfully covers it all. But, of course, thighs may change in the future.

 Pros and Cons of Bun

Let’s now accumulate what we’ve already said before, add the analysis of the tests’ results, and objectively evaluate Bun’s strengths and weaknesses.

 Advantages of Bun

Performance Efficiency: Bun's potential for cost savings is evident, especially given its reduced execution time. For CPU-intensive operations, this could translate to substantial financial benefits;

Enhanced Development Experience: Developers working with Bun enjoy a smoother journey, with rapid package installation, native testing support, and a more intuitive interface;

Lightweight Footprint: Without the baggage of Node or NPM dependencies, Bun prides itself on minimizing JavaScript in its stack, which can be beneficial in specific use-case scenarios.

 Drawbacks

Cold Start Concerns: Cold starts pose a significant challenge for Bun, impacting both the performance and cost, especially in serverless environments;

Battle Testing: Bun's newness in the market means it hasn't been rigorously tested in diverse, large-scale production scenarios, unlike Node.js;

API Compatibility Issues: Being a fresh entrant, Bun lacks full compatibility with some Node.js APIs, which might pose integration and migration challenges;

Serverless Impediments: As highlighted earlier, Bun's non-standard runtime nature requires repeated downloads in serverless contexts, with platforms like AWS not offering optimal and cost-efficient support.

While the horizon looks promising for Bun with its distinct advantages, the road ahead is laden with challenges it needs to overcome. As of now, it might be premature to embrace Bun for extensive production use, but its potential is undeniable, and keeping an eye on this rising star could be beneficial.

However, in the sprawling landscape of technology, professional custom software development plays a pivotal role in ensuring that software solutions remain robust, agile, and optimized. Node.js, with its proven track record, established community, and extensive battle-testing, still remains the undisputed leader for real-world complex projects.

With Node.js, there's a recognized certification path that's globally accepted, ensuring developers showcase their expertise effectively. When contrasting with newer technologies like Bun, there's still an absence of this streamlined certification pathway, which can also influence the choice of technology.

 Final Word

Finalizing our research, we can say that currently Node.js still outperforms Bun in many benchmarks and points like memory usage, cold starts, AWS optimization, serverless development, and cost-efficiency. Add to that the vast community, professional development opportunities, and the absence of a need for additional certifications, Node.js establishes itself as an unbeatable contender.

At the same time, Bun, with its distinct architecture, offers promising performance benchmarks and signifies the continuous drive for innovation in the realm of JavaScript runtimes. It has the potential to improve and become a fully-fledged Node.js rival in the future.

At Fively, we pride ourselves on our profound experience in web application development, especially in harnessing the power of Node.js.

Achievement-oriented banks of the 2020s provide their clients with an option to process financial transactions with a tap of a finger. To stay relevant and satisfy the evolving needs of mobile-first generations, financial institutions should reconsider their position on mobile banking.

According to the Mobile Banking Competitive Edge Study, 97% of millennials indicated that they use mobile banking. Moreover, Morgan Stanley Research states that 50% to 80% of smartphone-owning Gen Zers are already using online banking services. These audiences will become the key ones for banks. What are their expectations of banking apps? If you’re intended to provide the services in this domain, we highly recommend taking into account the following factors.

 Banking App Security

Security is a cornerstone of creating the infrastructure for financial operations. Cybercriminals don’t sleep and prepare new schemes of fraud. To be ahead of them, you should collaborate with first-class technical specialists who will ensure your app security.

One of the most simple and effective ways to provide security is the allowance of complicated passwords only. Users should have clear instructions when creating a password for authentication. In addition to that, you may determine a period of time at the end of which users have to change their passwords, and provide multi-factor authentication.

To prevent data leakage, avoid storing excessive user information. Keep the minimum of geolocation, IP, smartphone data for further analysis. As for the rest, you can use special symbols called tokens to replace and encrypt information.

For certain clients, of course, these measures will seem annoying. Nonetheless, choosing between simplicity and safety gives a little choice. Just provide precise instructions and support for your clients in case of troubles — using an app on a hacked smartphone, fake app downloading, a hacked or forgotten password. Also pay special attention to banking web app security, if you’re going to make such a product.

 Smooth User Experience

When using apps, people aim at various priorities — communications, planning, entertainment, information. In the case of a mobile banking app, the main objective is the financial management which must be quick and effective. Money is a serious subject though you can make the process of dealing with it more pleasant.

It is common practice to adhere to corporate style and colors when developing a software product. However, try staying minimalistic if you’re going to deal with the new wave of digital-savvy customers. Additional design elements distract users and make the transactions more time-consuming.

In-app messaging is another important element of UX. You can reach your customers either with the messages that appear on the screen and can be muted or with the messages that appear in a special app section. Both methods have their pros and cons so you should conduct split testing.

In addition to the minimalistic design do not overload your app’s functionality. Provide basic options like balance checking, transactions, customer support, check deposit. Excessive functionality hampers the work of an app and makes a user overthink. If you have plenty of options and don’t want to reject any of them, think of separate software products. For example, you may provide a web app for banking and a mobile one.

 Interaction With Users

Millennials and Gen Zers highly appreciate personalization and individual approach. It’s in your best interest to be like that since this is the way to customer loyalty and trust.
Onboarding communication is the key part. When customers decide to use your products, you should convince them of your care and attention. That’s why you should always explain all the actions. When demanding personal information, make clear how you’re going to use it. If you have several channels, make sure that a user can access all of them. The key idea is to stay transparent and attentive.

Do not forget about the options of artificial intelligence. Take more time to create a virtual assistant and set a chatbot. These solutions will save you tons of time and suit the customers preferring to avoid telephone conversations.
Make your app more accessible by providing trials. This step will mean you welcome new users and trust them without any commitments. Such an onboarding option doesn’t suit all banking products but you still should know about it.

 Final Word

As in any field of app development of the 2020s, banking apps should apply a customer-centric approach and effective service. However, the key factor to consider is data security and the speed of transactions. You may save on certain extra options but not on developers. Such investments will let you stay on the same page with sophisticated customers and protect them from fraud.

If you have any questions or comments about banking software, we are open to discussion.
