&lt;p&gt;Two things happened almost simultaneously.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;First, feed forward models like VGGT and LGM matured to the point where you could skip the entire COLMAP and training pipeline. Instead of reconstructing 3D geometry through optimization, these models predict it directly from images in a single forward pass. What used to take 30 minutes now takes 30 seconds.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Second, visual workflow tools started integrating these models into drag and drop interfaces. No terminal. No Python. No CUDA debugging at 2am.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The platforms that will win are the ones that hide the complexity without hiding the capability. Based on my testing, the node based approach offers the best balance: you can see what is happening at each step without needing to configure it manually.&lt;/p&gt;

  What Is Still Missing

&lt;p&gt;These are solvable problems. The trajectory is clear, even if the destination is not quite reached.&lt;/p&gt;

  The Bigger Picture

&lt;p&gt;Rendering is fast. Real time exploration on consumer hardware.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The missing piece was accessibility. When the only path to these benefits required serious technical chops, adoption stayed niche. No code tools remove that barrier.&lt;/p&gt;

  Where This Goes Next

&lt;p&gt;Second, editing capabilities will mature. Right now, most tools are generate only. Soon, you will be able to modify generated worlds as easily as you modify generated images.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Third, integration with existing creative workflows will deepen. Gaussian splats in video editors. In game engines. In presentation software. The format will become as ubiquitous as JPG, just in 3D.&lt;/p&gt;
