In current times, when businesses need to stay relevant by adopting digitization, there has been a considerable increase in the adoption of the cloud. There are two-fold reasons for this. The first one is during the Pandemic, businesses realize the importance of staying resilient, and secondly, the impending recession and high inflation are forcing companies to rethink and reimagine their cloud spending. There are many tools in the market for optimizing cloud resources, bringing cost efficiency and productivity into businesses. However, a mindset shift is needed for companies to make a progressive turn toward upcoming releases by top cloud cost optimization tools to help SMEs make the most of their investments in cloud resources. This blog post will delve into the key challenges that SMEs in the US usually face while trying to optimize their cloud cost spending.

Challenges Involved in Cloud Cost Optimization

Cloud cost optimization is not a trend but has become a necessary element that plays a critical role in streamlining the business processes of SMEs. However, there are specific roadblocks that need to be addressed to enable SMEs to make the most of their cloud resource utilization.

So, let’s take a deep dive into the critical challenges for SMEs in attaining cloud cost optimization for their businesses.

Old Mindset Approach: Many companies continue to treat the cloud as they did their old on-premises setups, resulting in over-provisioning of resources. However, they still need to be ready to change their perspective. They were paying more than what they were actually using the resources for. Over time, it is essential to adapt new approaches and perspectives process in order to embrace growth and innovation.

Lack of Accuracy in Determining Size of Cloud Resources: One common issue is the failure of companies to accurately determine the size of cloud resources, resulting in wasted resources and an inability to assess the extent of the waste. The organization should leverage cloud optimization tools to identify the accurate size of their current cloud resources.

Miscommunication in the Internal Teams: Miscommunication on the internal teams can lead to duplication of work as well as inefficiencies in having adequate cloud administration and maintenance. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to ensure that there is an efficient flow of information among the IT specialists and that decision-making is done by taking all the teams in confidence to proceed with a dedicated mindset.

Inadequate Data Cleanups: If businesses need the judicious usage of their resources, they need to ensure regular cleanups are performed. Most of the time, a few unnecessary processes are operating in the background, some instances continue to operate even after their assigned work has been finished, etc., all of which contribute to increased power consumption and costs.
Regular cleanups are obligatory for those businesses that intend to make the most of their cloud resources.

Absence of DevOps Culture: The culture of DevOps is often nonexistent in cloud computing environments, which is one of the numerous problems with these environments. Implementing a DevOps culture is beneficial for several reasons, including effective deployment methods, automated provisioning processes, and data recovery procedures, to name just a few. It helps to reduce the amount of manual interaction, which in turn helps to enhance efficiency and save costs.

Conclusion

To conclude, times are changing, and Small and medium enterprises need to bring a positive change in their approach towards the adoption of cloud. Their old mindset and perspective can’t bring the required changes, and therefore, SMEs need to bring transformational change in using and optimizing their cloud resource utilization. Each business’s cloud requirements can differ based on its market segment, customer needs, and goals. There is a need to have an alignment between business goals and the usage of cloud resources to achieve the desired outcomes. With the help of an IT partner, SMEs across industries can not only bring a shift in using cloud resources but also optimize their usage of resources, gaining cost and operational efficiencies. Therefore, by relying on managed cloud services of an IT partner, SMEs can leverage their cloud resources and move ahead towards innovation and staying ahead of time.

In recent years, software as a service (SaaS) has become one of the most popular Custom application development models. SaaS is a software licensing and delivery model where software is delivered over the Internet so that users can access the application from anywhere on any device. In this blog post, we explore step-by-step how to build a cloud-based SaaS application from scratch.

What is a cloud-based SaaS application?
Any software distributed based on the Software as a Service business model from the cloud is considered a SaaS application. This means you get a full-featured solution that runs in the cloud - it doesn't take up physical storage space, it doesn't require you to buy a perpetual license, it has no performance requirements, and it's up to you or your team of experts to manage the thing. all technically sustainable.

Getting a SaaS app is like getting a shiny new bike, custom-built to suit your riding habits, all for free - it's stored in a reliable, well-equipped bike depot so you can take it with you when you need it. and only pay for it when you use it.
With that overview, imagine the profit potential you are seeing if you choose to build a cloud-based SaaS application and monetize it accordingly. But let's start at the top.

Benefits of SaaS solutions
SaaS cloud platforms are constantly replacing conventional software installed on local infrastructure. We have listed six main reasons why companies choose to develop SaaS applications.

#1 Easy to set up
SaaS applications are web-based. This means that users don't have to configure them in a complicated way. Companies also don't need to purchase infrastructure resources to run these cloud-based services.

#2 Scalability
As the business grows, companies can easily scale SaaS solutions. This allows them to handle the increasing workload and accommodate more users. In the case of traditional software that requires on-premises infrastructure, scalability often becomes a challenge.

#3 Convenient payment
The fee is included in monthly (weekly or annual) operating costs and is easier for most companies to pay than an expensive software license. The subscription naturally increases as the platform grows. However, the client company does not need to invest in additional infrastructure capacity.

#4 Instant Updates
Users benefit from SaaS software updates as soon as they are deployed. In comparison, when using mainstream software, organizations must purchase and install new versions to keep it current and access enhanced and additional features.

#5 Accessibility
Businesses can use any SaaS application anytime, anywhere as long as the Internet is available. It makes it easier to organize remote work, maintain better control and establish communication with stakeholders, regardless of their physical location or time zone.

#6 Tests and basic plans
Most SaaS products allow users to try them out before making a decision. Rather than blindly investing in an app that might not live up to expectations, users can test the features and see if they meet their needs.

Cloud-based SaaS Application Development Process
Compared to traditional software development, the process of creating a SaaS product is somewhat restricted, but there are some similarities to Custom application development. The main benefit for the end user - is no need to install stuff and clog up physical memory - it doesn't just come out of nowhere.

File and asset storage and back-end computing power still need to be addressed somehow. To do this, you need a reliable cloud provider that provides the underlying capabilities to build and support a new SaaS architecture.

So finding a smart, proven cloud service to host your SaaS platform is first on your checklist. Once you've found an agency or team of experts to work with, there are several common project implementation phases to go through.

Step 1: Define the problem
The first step in building a cloud-based SaaS application is to identify the problem you are trying to solve and plan the architecture for your Custom application development . You need to understand your target audience's needs and understand what they want from a software application. This includes doing market research, analyzing competitors, and identifying customer pain points. Once you've identified the issue, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Plan the architecture
Planning the architecture of your SaaS application is critical to its success. You must decide on the technology stack, infrastructure, and custom application development model. You also need to consider scalability, availability, and security.

Some of the most important decisions to be made are:
· Technology stack: The technology stack is the combination of programming languages, frameworks, libraries, and tools that you use to build your SaaS application. You should choose a technology stack that is reliable, scalable, and well-supported. Some popular choices are MEAN (MongoDB, Express, Angular, Node.js), LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), and Ruby on Rails.
· Infrastructure: Infrastructure consists of the hardware and software components needed to run your SaaS application. You must choose a cloud provider to host your application. Some popular cloud providers include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You also need to choose the type of infrastructure, such as virtual machines or containers.
· Deployment model: The deployment model is how you deploy your SaaS application to the cloud. You can choose between a single-tenant or multi-tenant architecture. In a single-tenant architecture, each customer has a copy of the application. In a multi-tenant architecture, multiple clients share a single application instance.
Step 3: Choose a Cloud Provider
Once you planned the architecture for your Custom application development, you need to choose a cloud provider to host your SaaS application. The cloud provider provides the necessary infrastructure and services to run your application. Some popular cloud providers are:
· Amazon Web Services (AWS): AWS is one of the most popular cloud providers, offering a wide range of services such as virtual machines, storage, databases, and analytics.
· Microsoft Azure: Azure is a cloud computing service from Microsoft, which offers services such as virtual machines, storage, databases, and AI.
· Google Cloud Platform (GCP): GCP is a cloud computing service from Google, which offers services such as virtual machines, storage, databases, and machine learning.
Each cloud provider has its strengths and weaknesses, so you should choose the one that best suits your needs.

Step 4: Build the app
Once you've chosen a cloud provider, you can start developing your SaaS application. This includes designing the user interface, creating the database schema, and writing code. Some of the most important steps in developing a SaaS application are:
· User Interface Design: The user interface is part of the Custom application development that users interact with. You must design a user interface that is intuitive, easy to use, and visually appealing.
· Database design: The database is where you store your application's data. You must design a database schema that is efficient, scalable, and easy to maintain.
· Application code: You need to write application code using your chosen technology stack. You should follow best practices like writing clean, readable, and maintainable code. You also need to ensure that your code is secure and compliant with industry standards.

Step 5: Test the app
Before launching your SaaS application, thoroughly test it to ensure it works as expected. This includes testing functionality, performance, and security. You must have a comprehensive test plan that includes:
· Unit Testing: Unit testing involves testing each part of your application individually.
· Integration Testing: Integration testing tests how different components of your application work together.
· Performance test: **Performance test tests how your application performs under different loads and conditions.
· **Security testing: Security testing involves testing your application for vulnerabilities and ensuring that it is secure.

You should also perform user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure that your SaaS application meets the needs of your target audience.

Step 6: Deploy the app
After testing is complete, you can deploy your SaaS application to the cloud. This includes setting up the infrastructure, configuring the servers, and deploying Custom application development code. You should follow best practices such as using automation tools to streamline the deployment process, monitoring the deployment to ensure it's successful, and testing the application after deployment to ensure it works as expected.

Step 7: Monitor and Maintain the Application
After implementation, you need to monitor your SaaS application to ensure it runs smoothly. You must have a monitoring plan that includes:
· Monitor performance: You need to monitor your application's performance to ensure that it is fast and responsive.
· Monitor availability: You should monitor the availability of your application to ensure that it is working.
· Monitoring security: You need to monitor the security of your application to ensure that it is secure and not vulnerable to attack.

You also need to maintain the app by fixing bugs, updating code, and adding new features. You must have a maintenance plan that includes:
· Regular Updates: You should update your app regularly to make sure it's up-to-date and secure.
· Bug fixing: You need to fix bugs as soon as they are reported to ensure your app runs smoothly.
· Feature Improvements: You need to add new features to your app to meet the changing needs of your target audience.

Conclusion
Building a cloud-based SaaS application involves several steps, including defining the problem, planning the architecture, choosing a cloud provider, Custom application development, developing the application, testing the application, deploying the application, and monitoring and maintaining the application. Choosing the right cloud provider, technology stack, and architecture is important to ensure your SaaS application is scalable, available, and secure. By following best practices and using automation tools, you can streamline the development and deployment process and ensure the success of your SaaS application.

A critical element of the digital revolution, Cloud computing is transforming the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) industry. The blog should cover the key drivers for cloud adoption, business value, and benefits. The blog should also analyze the different cloud models and their suitability and highlight aspects that must be considered for different business functions before adopting them.

Would like the blog to focus on the different Cloud deployment architecture models (Multi-Cloud, Hybrid, etc.), Cloud application development options (Native apps, serverless, containers, etc.) from the data security perspective, and how it can be achieved

Cloud Computing in BFSI: Decision Guide to Choosing the Best Cloud Model for Finance Enterprises

Just about everyone is talking about the cloud. It is driving agility for enterprises, and everyone from business leaders to forward-thinking CIOs is using it to support their business and operating strategies and improve performance and returns. The banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) industry are also leveraging the cloud to address specific requirements and unique challenges.

Cloud is a game-changer for businesses, and COVID-19 has further accelerated cloud adoption. Today, most finance enterprises have eagerly embraced cloud-based systems to enable remote working, upgrade customer-facing software, prevent frauds, and increase efficiency. It aids operational activities such as new account opening, fund transfers, loan approvals, insurance advice policy renewal, and more. All you need is a cohesive cloud strategy to realize its business value fully.

As per a Google Cloud survey1, 83 percent of respondents said they were deploying cloud technology as part of their primary computing infrastructures, with hybrid cloud being the most popular (38 percent),, followed by single cloud (28 percent) and multi-cloud (17 percent). It, therefore, becomes imperative to understand the different cloud deployment models and options and define your objectives to create a roadmap for cloud adoption.

Finance and banking in the cloud

The financial sector is far from full adoption as far as core, back-office workloads are concerned. BFSI companies have adopted cloud technology for various reasons, including Data and IT security, regulatory reporting, fraud detection and prevention, data reconciliation, and underwriting activity.

Those who have embraced cloud adoption unanimously agree on its benefits that include:

Ø Adapting to changing customer behaviors and market trends

Ø Enhancing efficiencies and operational resilience

Ø Enabling innovation to upgrade product and service portfolio

Ø Enhancing data security capabilities

Ø Eliminating silos to ensure connectedness and transparency

Ø Scale up or scale down capacity to manage diverse workloads and activities

Ø Driving integrated decisions by integration of business units to share data and respond quickly

A cloud computing environment is just what you need in the current scenario. But you need to first understand the influencing factors and the cloud compositions and service models to decide which one's right for you.

Factors to consider

BFSI enterprises often embark on a cloud journey with infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) models to later evolve to platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS) models as they mature. To choose the right model and devise a strategy, you need to be very clear about your objectives.

Your business case for adopting Cloud

Critical applications are often built on legacy technologies, and moving them to the cloud usually entails high costs. Also, migration is not easy until they undergo a bit of a revamp. A detailed cloud strategy and roadmap, therefore, becomes essential to initiate cloud adoption.

I*ntended customer experience & service differentiation*

A differentiated service experience is a key to the success of a Cloud implementation. You can either build your custom solution for max flexibility or use an existing Off-The-Shelf (OTS) or SaaS solution with their out-of-the-box features. OTS and SaaS solutions are suitable when the time to market is key - A custom solution works better to deliver a differentiated CX

Government regulations

The modern regulatory framework requires enterprises to comply with stringent privacy, security, and regulatory standards in regards to capture, storage, and sharing of customer data. Understanding these requirements is essential before choosing between on-premise, private, or public cloud to host systems.

Choosing cloud deployment and service models

Financial institutions vary in their business functions and technology priorities. Feasibility analysis, cloud migration assessment, and strong decision-making capabilities are necessary to choose the right deployment and service models.

A leading investment bank is using a public cloud for its regulatory reporting solutions. In contrast, a prominent Norwegian bank has adopted the PaaS model to transform its peer-to-peer mobile payment application using microservices on the public cloud. The bank has captured nearly 80% 2 of the market, ensuring high application availability and scalability to service more than 2M customers. While doing so, it was able to increase transaction processing throughput by 10x and reduce infrastructure setup time from 60 to 6 days and release time by 3x.

A major North American bank specializing in cards, wealth management, and investment services had spectacular results after migrating to the cloud. It leveraged the IaaS and PaaS models on the private cloud to modernize its channels by enabling digital identity, push notifications, e-wallets, behavioral biometrics, etc. The bank saw a 40% improvement in time-to-market, an increase in active mobile user base by 20%, and a drop in annual infrastructure cost by 15%.

Chinese banks3 such as Minsheng Bank, Ping An Bank, Industrial Bank, and Beijing Zhongguancun Bank are using cloud-native SaaS platforms to strengthen their anti-fraud systems and increase the responsiveness of the front-office and agility of the back-office.

Clearly, cloud adoption differs significantly in scope and value for every organization. While some banks have adopted PaaS and SaaS models to modernize their channel and teller applications, many adopt low code SaaS offerings for sales, customer relationship management, onboarding, and enterprise resource planning systems.

Cloud computing deployment

Cloud service models

Choosing the right cloud service model is easier if you recognize its potential in furthering your business objectives. The model you select should evolve based on your needs and the business functions you want to support.

Distinctions exist among all, especially when you evaluate them with a risk-based approach. Here are the top 3 popular ones:

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

It offers IT infrastructure (servers and storage) that can be managed online via a pay-as-you-use basis without getting into the complexities of purchasing and managing physical servers. It is dynamic and flexible, and the services are highly scalable. Resources are available as a service, and it allows enterprises to carry out automated administrative tasks.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

It allows enterprises to develop, test, run, and manage applications since it is accessible to multiple users through the same application development . It can be integrated with web services and databases and supports diverse languages and frameworks. Its ability to 'auto-scale' gives it an edge.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

It is an on-demand software that hosts applications. Applications can be accessed easily via an Internet connection and a web browser from a central location. It is hosted on a remote server and available for use on a pay-as-per-use basis. Users do not have to oversee hardware or software updates since updates are applied automatically.

Winning with Cloud power

As the needs of modern finance enterprises evolve, mature cloud services will continue to emerge to help manage different business functions. Cloud adoption can help deliver compelling value propositions to customers and innovate along the way. Cloud power is the way forward to enhance capabilities and enable end-to-end automated processing. However, the key to successful cloud adoption lies in the cloud model you choose and the service provider you decide to work with.
