Why Great SaaS Products Struggle to Get Their First Users

Building a product has never been easier.

With AI, no-code platforms, modern APIs, and cloud infrastructure, a solo founder can turn an idea into a working product surprisingly fast.

But there is a problem that comes after building:

How do you get people to discover it?

Building is only half the journey

A founder can spend weeks building a SaaS product, polishing the UI, fixing bugs, and preparing the launch.

Then launch day arrives.

And almost nobody sees it.

This doesn't necessarily mean the product is bad.

Sometimes the product simply doesn't have a discovery problem solved yet.

The first-user problem

Early-stage products usually need three things:

Visibility
Feedback
Early adopters

Without visibility, there are no visitors.

Without visitors, there is no feedback.

Without feedback, it's difficult to understand what needs to improve.

This creates a frustrating cycle for independent founders.

What can founders do?

Instead of trying to compete with established products immediately, founders can focus on becoming discoverable inside communities where people already care about technology and new products.

Some useful approaches include:

What I'm learning

The biggest lesson for me is that building the product is only one part of starting a company.

Distribution matters.
