What's New with Static Web Apps and Durable Functions

In this episode, Senior Program Manager, (and Former Azure Cloud Advocate) Anthony Chu talks to us about a variety of topics in including Azure Static Web Apps and shows off a couple of fresh demos around Durable Functions, Codespaces, and Custom Handlers.

We'll Also take a peak a Learn module introducing us to Azure Durable Functions and see if we can uncover an even better understanding of the topic covered in the show.

To get things started, Anthony gives us a real quick overview of what Azure Static Web Apps are followed by what the process looks like to deploy them.

Before we wrap up, Anthony and I take a look at a Learn module about Durable Functions. This is a great place to start if you'd like to learn more on the subject.

Azure Storage – the Unsung Hero - part 2

In this episode, Frank received Shannon Kuehn who is also a cloud advocate at Microsoft. She will share how from a degree in communication studies in English passing by House DJ, she became this talented cloud advocate. Like what the atypical path doesn't block you to build a great career.

When Shannon started to learn more about Azure storage she started the "hard way". Doing pure HTTP call manually, without and library to managed to facilitate anything. That gave her a betters point of view to enjoy and understand all the benifices of SDK. She found that lesson so important that she walk us through that journey during her demo. Creating an Azure Storage Account and using the Security recommendations to share files for a short period of type using SAS tokens. Frank and Shannon will then present the Learn module Choose a data storage approach in Azure. A very interesting module because it provides multiple scenarios to understand the type of storage is the best for your project. You can see the full walkthrough of the Learn Module here.

In this episode Frank is with Andy Morell, an Microsoft MVP about how he led The Live Coders production team in producing several online conferences in 2020 using an infrastructure running in Azure.

In the first part of this video we will learn more about Andy, what's his specialty as MVP, how he became a developer and more complete interview here. Andy will then explain how you can build a scalable and reliable solution using Ant Media Server Community Edition on Azure Virtual Machines. And explains where to find the required NVIDIA GPU drivers. You can see all the explanations and demo here.

Security is very important, even more, when our application is exposed to the Internet. Having a login-security process is a great way to secure our content, but how to build it the good way? Raphael (aka. Instafluff), shows us that the best way is probably to not create it our self but to use what's already there for us: Azure Identity.

In this episode, we will convert how you could use Azure Identity to secure your application without having to create anything and offer a great (and secure) experience to your users.

Storage is the foundation of so many services. In this episode, Shannon will present a lot of them. To make it easier to get on board she will start by exploring the services by Azure types: (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS). When we work in the cloud one of the challenges is to decide where to save our data. Wich service is the best for our situation and application? During her tour, Shannon will provide examples to help us answer those questions.

In the second part of the stream, Shannon will jump into the Azure portal and create an Azure Storage account show where to find information, provide tips, introduce great tools, and answer question of the viewers.

Join Michael Jolley and Frank to Build a video chat application using utilizing Vue.js (JavaScript) with some Azure Functions inside the new Azure Static WebApp (SWA).

In this project, Azure Function will be used to generate a token to identify the user joining a "chat room". We were trying the not even release version of Vue.js and let's say we encounter a few hiccups... But That's how you learn...
