Media Queries - CSS

  What is a media-query?

A Media Query is a CSS Technique that uses a @media and @import at-rules which helps in invoking CSS properties inside a block only if the desired condition is true for various device resolutions.

Ex:

@media only screen and (max-width: 600px) {
  body {
    background-color: lightyellow;
  }
}

  Adding breakpoints..

Breakpoints help in eliminating clutter of rows and columns made in a web page. It was responsive but it wasn't made for a smaller screen with a lower resolution like Mobile Phones, Tablets, etc.

Ex:

@media (max-width: 768px) {
  html {
   color: gray;
   font-size: 1rem;
  }
}

  Improving the compatibility with outdated or older browsers

Certain browsers don't support media queries and the applied media features like styling does not get implemented. The example being displayed below has no effects on modern browsers.

@media only screen and (max-width: 600px) {
  body {
    background-color: lightblue;
  }
}

  Are media queries really that important?

Media queries have always been a powerful tool and is being used widely as a CSS Toolbox with great power. Accomodating a design to every possible situation will lead to complexity to maintain. Having a universal design on the web is pretty hard and it almost sounds non existent.

Therefore, media queries play an important role in responsive web designing as they allow us to create various layouts with accurate spacing and clarity with no clutter depending on the viewport’s size. Media queries can also be used to detect the users environment the site is being run for example if the user is using a touchscreen or a joystick other than a mouse to navigate on a website.

  Using the right commit messages helps make it more meaningful and it provides clarity on your updated piece of code being pushed to GitHub.

feat - a new feature

Manipulating Arrays

🎯 With push()

The push() function is used to add data to the end of an array.

It can take one or more parameters as shown with an example:

{
    var arr1 = [1,2,3];
    arr1.push(4);
    var arr2 = [“Stimpson”, “j” ,”cat”];
    arr1.push([“happy” , “joy”]);
}

🎯 With pop()

The pop() function is the opposite of push() , which removes data from the end of an array.

Any type of data can be popped off from the array with an example:

{
    var threeArr = [1,4,6];
    var oneDown = threeArr.pop();
    console.log(oneDown);
    console.log(threeArr);
}

🎯 With unshift()

The unshift() function can unshift elements from either the end or the beginning of the array

Example:

{
    var arr = [“Stimpson”, “j” ,”cat”];
    arr.shift();
    arr.unshift(“happy”);
    after shift, arr will have value [“j” ,”cat”], after unshift() the arr would have [“happy”, “j” ,”cat”]
}

🎯 With shift()

The shift() function can shift elements from either the end or the beginning of the array

Example:

{

The Document Object Model is known as a programming interface used for web documents so that programs can change the document structure, style, and content representing a page.

There is an interaction between pages, nodes and object. In the case of the object model it allows the representation to be manipulated. This is object based and it can be modified using javascript.
It was designed to be independent of any particular programming language, making the structural representation of the document available from a single, consistent API.

Even if most web developers will only use the DOM through JavaScript, implementations of this can be built for any language.
JavaScript can also be used in other contexts.

For example, Node.js runs JavaScript programs on a computer, but provides a different set of APIs, and the DOM API is not a core part of the Node.js runtime. In short DOM is not necessarily a part of the JavaScript, but a Web API which builds websites.

If we take an example of a HTML DOM, a document containing HTML is being described as the Document interface that can be extended by HTML specification which includes HTML-specific features. An Element interface is enhanced to transform into an HTMLElement and are of various subclasses.
