I Built Jahez: A Simpler Way to Track Restaurant Orders

Have you ever waited for your food and wondered, “Is my order ready yet?”

That simple question inspired me to build Jahez, a web application designed to make restaurant order tracking easier for both customers and staff.

💡 The Idea Behind Jahez

The idea is simple: restaurant staff create an order, and the system generates a unique QR code for it. Customers can scan the code with their smartphones to open a page showing their order status.

Instead of repeatedly asking staff about their orders, customers can check the tracking page themselves.

When staff update an order's status, the customer-facing page is intended to display the latest information. Reliable real-time updates require a properly configured and tested database connection.

🛠️ Technologies I Used

I built Jahez using several web development technologies:

HTML — To structure the application's pages and forms.

CSS — To style the interface and make it easy to navigate.

JavaScript — To handle user interactions and order management.

QR Codes — To provide quick access to individual order tracking pages.

Firebase Realtime Database — The planned solution for synchronizing order information across different devices.

Each technology plays a role in bringing the idea together into a practical web application.

🚧 Challenges and Lessons Learned

Building a useful application involves more than creating an attractive interface.

Each order needs a unique identifier, every QR code must lead to the correct tracking page, and the application must handle status changes without displaying duplicate orders or outdated information.

Another important lesson is that local data and real-time synchronization are not the same thing. For customers and staff to see consistent information across different devices, the application needs a properly configured shared database.

I'm also working on making Jahez bilingual, with Arabic and English support, to make the application more accessible to a wider range of users.

🚀 What's Next?

There is still room to improve Jahez. Some of the areas I would like to focus on include:

Testing order tracking across multiple devices and browsers.

Improving data validation and error handling.

Adding appropriate authentication and access controls.

Refining the user interface and bilingual experience.

These improvements would help make the application more reliable and practical for real restaurant environments.

👀Take a Look at Jahez

Here's a screenshot of the application:

💬 I'd Love to Hear Your Thoughts!

This project has been a valuable opportunity to bring together several web development concepts in one practical application.

I'm looking forward to improving Jahez, learning from the challenges along the way, and exploring new ways to make restaurant order tracking easier.

What feature would you add to make a restaurant order tracking system more useful?

I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments!
