I got tired of Postman's cloud sync and RAM bloat, so I built an offline, Rust-native alternative

For years, Postman was my go-to tool for API testing. But recent updates made it increasingly frustrating to use: mandatory cloud account logins, telemetry tracking, runner restrictions (limited to 25 runs/mo), and eating upwards of 1.2 GB of RAM on heavy Electron runtimes.

As a developer working with microservices, I needed something fast, private, and capable of organizing 30+ services without massive clutter.

So I built ReqX — an ultra-fast, 100% offline-first API client powered by Tauri v2 + Rust.

👉 GitHub Repository: https://github.com/lgponlylove/reqX

 ⚡ Key Highlights of ReqX

 1. 🌲 Multi-Level Directory Tree (Solved Postman's biggest flaw)

In Postman, collections are forced into a single, unending flat list. In enterprise projects with dozens of microservices, this becomes chaotic.

ReqX introduces Project Directories: Group related collections into parent folders (
[ERP System] -> Inventory API, Billing API, Auth API
).

An interactive Tree Structure Modal lets you see your entire system architecture from a bird's-eye view and reorder nodes effortlessly.

 2. 🚀 Blazingly Fast & Lightweight

Sub-second startup (~0.8s) vs 10+ seconds on Postman.

Memory footprint under 100MB RAM (built with native Rust & WebAssembly).

Completely offline: Zero cloud telemetry, zero account required. Your API keys and tokens never leave your disk.

 3. 🔄 Git Workspace Native (
reqx_workspace
)

Instead of paying expensive cloud seat fees ($14–$49/user/mo), ReqX exports clean directory JSON structures that you can commit straight to your team's Git repo without merge conflicts.

 4. 🧪 Unlimited Collection Runner & Smart Flows

Uncapped Runner: No 25-run paywalls. Test bulk datasets with CSV & JSON files.

Smart Flow Canvas: Drag and drop requests, extract response tokens, branch on HTTP status codes, and inspect exact step-by-step waterfall latency graphs.

Built-in Localhost Mock Server: Boot a mock server in 5 seconds to stub backend endpoints with custom status codes and simulated delays.

 5. 💻 Headless CLI for CI/CD (The Newman Alternative)

ReqX ships with a dedicated 600KB CLI (
reqx run
) to automate collection tests in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. It also features
reqx env lint
to catch missing variables and prevent leaking secrets to Git.

 6. 3-Second Migration

Switching is 100% painless:

Export your collection from Postman (v2.1).

Click Import in ReqX.

All your requests, folders, environments, and
pm.*
test scripts run immediately without modifications.

 📦 Try It Out!

ReqX is open-core and free for developers:

🔗 GitHub Repository: https://github.com/lgponlylove/reqX

💾 Pre-built Releases: Windows (
.msi
,
.exe
) and Linux (
.AppImage
,
.deb
) are available in the Releases tab.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and feature requests from fellow developers in the comments!
