Why I Built a PDF Suite That Never Uploads Your Files

Every free PDF tool I tried had the same catch: upload your file first. Contracts, ID scans, bank statements, all sent to a server I knew nothing about. So we built Pyrbit PDF, a PDF suite where every operation runs on the device itself.

The design rule: nothing leaves the device

Every feature had to pass one test: can it run fully offline? That ruled out the easy path of shipping files to a backend for conversion or OCR.

What runs locally today:

Edit, merge, split, rotate, crop and compress PDFs

Convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EPUB and images to PDF, keeping the layout

Camera scanning with edge detection and perspective correction

OCR on scanned pages, on-device

Form filling, digital signatures and Aadhaar signature verification

AES password encryption and permanent redaction

The app is available in 41 languages and works on phones, tablets, Chromebooks and Windows PCs.

 Why it matters

A server you don't run is a server you can't audit. When processing happens locally, there's no upload to log, no retention policy to trust, and no breach that can expose your documents. It also means the app works on a plane or in a basement with no signal.

Free Pro codes for DEV readers

The first 10 readers can unlock Pyrbit PDF Pro on Android for free. In the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Redeem code. Each code works once:

F53QSV7MG4Z8Q7CWS098V86

2KZ6XPMLYRLEP2VF3ZUBD2E

 Try it

Android: Google Play

Windows: Microsoft Store

iPhone: coming soon

Feedback is very welcome in the comments, especially on which PDF task you'd most like to see handled offline.

Disclosure: written by the Pyrbit team.
