I'm sick of proprietary software that I can't extend for my own use. Who is working on the open source Strava? Who is working on the open source Google Flights? Save me from proprietary hell.

Is it still advised to do several weeks of leetcode before a coding interview? Will I need to do live whiteboarding? Do I need to know how to reverse a red-black tree? Do people still recommend the book "cracking the coding interview"?

What have been your recent experiences?

Open Source Voice Changing Software

Just came across this github repo written in Typescript where the software can change your voice in REALTIME...

https://github.com/w-okada/voice-changer

For me this is scary, the implications of this software being available in combination with something like ChatGPT are frightening.

Countries are regulating against AI, but is this kind of software not also a risk?

OpenAI, chatGPT, DALL-E have excellent APIs but what are the best tools for building SaaS products based on them and offering services to end users? Products with a free tier are preferred.

Asking for a pay rise in 2023

With all the tech layoffs happening it feels like a bad time to be asking for a pay rise. But cost of living is increasing, and inflation is still ongoing.

What is your advice to an engineer who believes they deserve a pay rise (several years in same company, increasing responsibilities, good performance)? How would you go about approaching your manager? And would you discuss this issue with your colleagues also?
