The old world order is dying. A new one is being written in code.

For centuries, power was measured in armies, territory, and natural resources. Today it lives in data centers, algorithms and the minds that control them. The Atlantic Council warned in January 2026 that the question is no longer whether AI will reshape the global order but how quickly, and at what cost.

This is the reality we now live in. Let me show you what the fight for the new world order looks like:

The US and China are not racing to outbuild each other. They are racing to outthink one another. Global AI spending will reach $2.52 trillion this a staggering jump from previous years. But money is not the weapon, intelligence is. Whoever masters artificial intelligence will dictate the terms of the next era not through invasion, but through influence, infrastructure, and control of the digital nervous system that connects everything.

The evidence is no longer theoretical. It is burning in the skies over Iran right now.

Operation Epic Fury has seen the US military's Maven Smart System powered by Anthropic's Claude AI execute over 1,000 strikes against Iran in less than 24 hours to date, American forces have hit more than 5,500 targets inside Iran. Palantir, Anduril, Microsoft and NVIDIA feed the lethal data in realtime. The distance between data and destruction has collapsed to seconds. This is not the future of war this is the PRESENT (not so delighted for this gift, are we?).

Yet here is the twist the powers do not want you to understand.

The state is no longer the only player. Small businesses once powerless against corporate giants are now armed with tools that were exclusive to Fortune 500 companies a decade ago. 88 % of SMBs increased or maintained AI investment in 2025. 91 % of those using AI report positive business impact. A solo entrepreneur in Lagos or New Delhi now competes with institutions that once dismissed them.

The conflict extends beyond the battlefield. This very month, Anthropic sued the Trump administration—filing two separate lawsuits challenging the Pentagon's designation of the company as a "supply chain risk" after Anthropic refused to remove safety limits from Claude for military use ,a designation that could blacklist the company from government contracts. This is the new front line: not just who controls AI, but who controls what AI is allowed to do.

This is the paradox of the era. AI concentrates power in the hands of those who build it but it also disperses capability to those who use it wisely. Nations that understand this will rise. Those that fear it will be ruled by those who embrace it.

Africa has emerged as the new arena. With a young, growing digital population, the continent is being fought over by superpowers seeking to shape AI's future. The Gulf states are investing billions to become AI hubs. Europe is regulating. India is positioning itself as the bridge between competing blocs.

The old order measured power in tanks. The new order measures it in compute.

The question is not whether you will be affected. The question is whether you will be among those who shape it or those who are shaped by it.

The DevinAI situation was brought to my attention by a few of my colleagues, Twitter and Reddit seem to be on the same page that the launch was an over-exaggerate and under-deliver kind of situation. Also if anybody had the opportunity to try it I would very much appreciate if you could share your feedback (and the opensource alternatives OpenDevin and Devika AI too if possible 🙏 )
This is currently a developing situation and if the community was mislead we should pool in our experiences and in either case it's better that we direct our free time and effort towards the opensource project and product (by the community for the community 🤝🖤🏋️)

Emergence of Vector Databases

But First, Why ?

Traditional databases have served us well for decades. They excel at storing and retrieving structured data like customer records, financial transactions, or product inventories. Think of them as giant spreadsheets with rows and columns, perfectly suited for precise queries and updates.

However, the world of data has evolved. Large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 and others revolutionize how computers understand and generate human-like text. These models operate on concepts and relationships rather than simple keywords or perfect matches. They rely on nuanced meaning and contextual similarities – something traditional databases struggle to convey.

Inception of Vector Database

Let's imagine you want to recommend a book similar to a user's favorite. A traditional database might look for exact matches for title, author, or genre. An LLM needs to understand the book's themes, writing style, mood, and the subtle connections that make readers say, "If you liked that, you'll love this!"

Vector databases were built to address this very need. Instead of rows and columns, they store data as mathematical vectors ( lists of numbers/arrays ) that represent complex characteristics.

How is Data Stored

Vector databases can't store raw data like PDFs or music. Lets break down the steps involved where the object to be stored is a text document

Preprocessing: This involves cleaning (lowercase conversion, removing noise and stop words), tokenizing text into words or sentences, potentially applying stemming or lemmatization to reduce word variations.
Vector Embedding: Once the data has been cleaned it goes through vectorization methods which transform preprocessed documents into high-dimensional vectors suitable for storage. Once tranformed these vectors capture the essence of the original data in a high-dimensional space. Models (like Word2Vec) convert the data into numerical vectors in a high-dimensional space.
Store the Vector: The vector, along with some metadata, is then stored in the database enabling accurate and efficient similarity-based searches and operations. Similar vectors are stored closer to each other ( which also results in low latency high availablity).

Similarity, not Mathematical Equality

Vector databases shine because they don't rely on exact matches. They employ distance metrics to find items that are closest to a query, even if they don't share a single identical piece of information.
This allows vector databases to find similar items (like recommending similar music) based on their vector distance, not just exact matches.

How Vector Databases Empower LLMs & more

Let's return to the book recommendation example.

A vector database could store the essence of each new vector representing the user's preferences based on their reading , quickly identifying books with vectors closest to the user's preference vector.

By representing books and reading preferences as vectors, subtle nuances in theme, style and mood can be captured. This allows the LLM to transcend basic genre/author matching and suggest books that resonate with a reader's unique taste & preference, leading to novel literary discoveries.

Vector databases hold immense potential and uses far beyond just book recommendation

Semantic Search: Finding relevant documents based on meaning, not just on the basis of title.
Image Similarity Search: Discover visually similar images, even with variances in angle or background conditions gaining a better context for image classification.
Fraud Detection: Spot patterns and anomalies in vast data sets that traditional systems might not be designed for.
Personalized Recommendations: Recommendations and tailored products for individual users, not just broad categories in an infinite pool of products.

Goal of Figure: to develop general purpose humanoids that make a positive impact on humanity

It seems like yesterday that I was writing an article about an agent who could write full stack code through and through with just a single prompt that scared to take away software engineering jobs forever,well it was yesterday and what's not so surprising is that now physical labor workers are next, the preemptive notion of 'robots-could-never-do-this' jobs like warehouse work or construction has just been shattered and gulped up by a company named Figure when they introduced Figure 01 the humanoid robot poised to shake up manual labor industry.

Relevance of Figure 01 in current scenario

We are rapidly moving in a direction where the world is filled with agents,whether they be software or physical. From software development to construction work , more and more emphasis is being given to the potential of human mind's consciousness and its creativity so the trend will lean towards (as it is already) offloading any and every repetitive or labor intensive task to an agent , few of the competitors Figure 01 goes head to head with.

Atlas: Everyone's favorite back-flipping bot is designed by Boston Dynamics for research, not practicality in its current iteration. Atlas' next iteration could be the silent killer as they have been in this space for a long time and even though they might not have the most refined product now many industry experts believe they aren't that far behind.
Warehouse Robots: Existing warehouse robots are highly specialized – think conveyor belts and programmed arms but these are what one might call rigid bots if put in a new environment they lack the ability to adapt to rigorous changes in their working environment and most of the time they aren't mobile at all(i.e they are physically locked in a particular spot due to the supporting apparatus).
Agility Robotics' Digit: This bipedal robot leans towards commercial applications like warehouse and logistics environments. While similar to Figure 01's purpose, Digit is less about fine-tuned hand manipulation and more on whole-body movement and package handling.
Optimus: Elon Musk's vision for Tesla Optimus emphasizes affordability and mass production. If successful, it could be a major player, but for now, it still remains under covers away from public access.

What stands out with Figure 01

Dexterity: Think human-like hands, not just clunky robot grippers. Figure 01 is meant to manipulate objects and use tools the way we do, (similar traits were demonstrated by Tesla's Optimus Gen 2 model). High level of finger dexterity could be observed across multiple videos as show in their demos.
Adaptability: It doesn't just perform pre-programmed routines. Visual AI models, coupled with cameras and sensors, lets Figure 01 tackle new environments and unusual tasks.
Active Learning: The focus is on continual improvement. Like a human worker, it gets better and more efficient with experience. As is demoed the Figure 01 was actively correcting itself after taking a wrong course of action while preparing coffee in the video .

Why This Matters

Job Shifts: Automation in warehouses, factories, and farms is already a huge topic not just because of cost cutting, but also because of how monotonous & repetitive it is and how replacing humans would save both time & money . Figure 01 signals a level-up in what robots can physically handle, potentially displacing more in less time.
Skills: It's not just about losing jobs, it's about needing new skills. If robots do the manual stuff, how do human workers move to higher-value roles? We need new frameworks on building a better system which teaches us to bring coherence between these robots as outsourcing the physical labor intensive and risky jobs and humans to do the heavy lifting on the problem solving aspect of things -
the mental labor.
Cost: These robots aren't cheap. Companies will weigh the cost of a robot workforce compared to the rising cost of human labor but sooner rather than later mass production and the service charges of these robots will undercut manual human labor and when that threshold is met , a drastic shift will be observed in many parts of the world especially in China , South America and South-East Asian markets

And to top it all off , it is powered by OpenAI models for conversations and interaction (both verbal & visual).

Figure 01 isn't about robots replacing everyone overnight. However, it highlights the urgent need to adapt. We need to focus on up-skilling workers and rethink education now, because whether it's code or construction, the AI & automation revolution is well underway.

Devin AI: Is This the Future of Software Engineering?

Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make inroads into nearly every sector of modern life, and software engineering is no exception. Cognition, a US-based AI startup, has made headlines with its revolutionary AI software engineer called Devin. Cognition claims Devin is the world's first "fully autonomous" AI capable of handling complex coding projects from idea to completion.

What is Devin AI?

Devin represents a significant leap forward in the capabilities of AI coding assistants. Unlike tools such as OpenAI's Copilot, which primarily offer suggestions and support, Devin allegedly operates more independently. It functions within a secure sandbox, executing complex engineering tasks using tools familiar to any developer: a code editor, a web browser, and its own shell.

Cognition highlights Devin's key abilities:

Coding: Devin can write code proficiently in multiple programming languages which in practical terms means with one agent we can use the best language and best frameworks (in terms of security or speed or both) without having to go through the hustle of either manually learning every single language or hiring field specific developers for every niche .
Problem-Solving: It can analyze problems, break them down, and devise coding solutions.This is the part that can either make or break Devin AI's future because as of now we have copilots of the world that can suggest code snippets but aren't necessarily looking out for the bigger picture.
Debugging: Devin identifies errors, proposes fixes, and even adds debugging print statements for troubleshooting. In the event it was mentioned that Devin resolved many open issues in multiple open-source projects on Github
Learning: Its machine learning foundation allows it to adapt, improve, and learn from experience as was demoed in the presentation , it resolved PR issues in the GitHub repository it was told to build upon.

API integration: Devin seamlessly plugged into multiple APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) by independently referencing online API documentation, learning the requirements, and integrating them into code.(ME SQUINTING AT A NON LIVING BINARY CODE MODEL AS IT INCHES CLOSER TO MY BREAD AND BUTTER)
Data Transformation: Devin was tasked with transforming data between formats. It recognized the need for a particular third-party library, installed it on its own, and successfully processed the data.

An Agent that can write code for you, start the project, then resolve the issues , re-iterate this cycle across various languages and multiple frameworks till you have a MVP ready sounds like the wet dream of every software developer but the potential to these claims are yet to be battle-tested by the army of software developers waiting to get their hands on.
