When I started working on Horizon, I didn't want it to become just another Discord server where people join, look around and eventually go inactive.

I wanted to build a place where developers could actually interact, share what they're working on, ask questions and learn from each other.

Today, Horizon has grown to over 100 developers, and it's been interesting seeing people with different interests, skills and experience levels come together.

What we're trying to build

The idea behind Horizon is pretty straightforward:

A place to share projects and get feedback.

Discussions around programming, development and technology.

Opportunities to collaborate and learn from other developers.

Community activities that give people a reason to participate.

A space where beginners and experienced developers can interact.

We don't want everything to revolve around serious technical discussions. Sometimes, the best conversations happen when people are just sharing random ideas or experimenting with something new.

Introducing Horizon Dev Lab

One thing we're starting is Horizon Dev Lab.

It's a series of community-driven developer activities where members get to build, experiment and showcase their work.

For our first edition, we're going with a slightly unusual theme:

Build Something Useless.

The idea is to give participants 48 hours to build something completely random, funny or unnecessarily complicated.

It could be a useless website, a Discord bot, a Python script or anything else they can think of.

After submissions close, everyone gets to explore, review and rate each other's projects.

No serious competition. Just building things and having fun together.

What's next?

We're still figuring things out, trying new activities and learning what makes a developer community genuinely engaging.

There's a lot we'd like to do with Horizon, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Building software is great, but having a community of people to share that journey with makes it even better.

What do you think makes a developer community worth being part of?

I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts.
