In August 2026, several of my ChatGPT conversations became unavailable. What began as a technical support case gradually turned into questions about escalation, ownership, and what actually happens to a case after it is “shared internally.” After several weeks, two case numbers, multiple emails, and a surprisingly large amount of documentation, I was still asking one very simple question: who is responsible?

THIS IS NOT AN ORDINARY TALK SHOW

HOST: What happened?
ARIEL: My ChatGPT conversations disappeared. August 13 and 14.
HOST: You contacted Support?
ARIEL: Yes.
HOST: Good.
ARIEL: Depends what you mean by "good."
HOST: Did they help?
ARIEL: They replied. Replying and answering are two different activities. They were very sorry for the inconvenience and valued my experience. My data was still missing.
HOST: When did it stop being technical?
ARIEL: It became a tracking problem. Who received it. Whether it was forwarded. Whether anyone was handling it. Eventually: who was responsible.
HOST: So "Where is my data?" became "Who is responsible?" Do we know either?
ARIEL: No.
HOST: Excellent. Sorry. That came out wrong.
ARIEL: It did. Cases 13508748 and 14675654. Export, screenshots, emails, dates, times. I asked: has this actually been forwarded or transferred to another team or department for handling or review, yes or no?

HOST: Did it work?
ARIEL: I was trying to make it difficult to misunderstand. No.
The screen fills with sponsored posts.
ARIEL: Apparently the ads are doing very well.
HOST: Support sent?
ARIEL: "We've documented your feedback and will share it internally with the appropriate teams for consideration." Which teams? No idea.
HOST: At least the sentence is safe.
ARIEL: The sentence is doing extremely well.
Phone rings. GLEN.
HOST: Glen! Are you the human representative?
GLEN: "I'm AI-assisted support - not a human agent."
HOST: So the human representative is not human. Who is responsible for this request?
GLEN: "We've documented your feedback and will share it internally with the appropriate teams for consideration."
HOST: Once more.
GLEN: "We've documented your feedback and will share it internally with the appropriate teams for consideration."
HOST: He's pleading the Fifth.
ARIEL: He's pleading the template. Word for word, from the email.
GLEN WORTHINGTON, Head of User Ops: "Support has never really been about replying to just tickets. It's about whether people get what they need, whether it actually serves them well."
HOST: Same Glen?
ARIEL: No idea.
HOST: Glen Worthington, who is responsible?
Silence. "Drive high-priority escalations and cross-functional decisions to closure with clear context, accountable owners, next steps, and durable follow-through."
HOST: The job description knows what you want. Does your case?
ARIEL: Apparently not. I was on Free, Go for two months, Plus. Not Pro. Not buying again. My data is unavailable, and I still don't know who is responsible.

TARO YASUMA, User Operations Lead, APAC, OpenAI: "My personal ambition is to champion a user-first perspective."
TARO: "Less manual drag. More scale. Better quality. Better experiences for users. Better signals back into the product."

ARIEL: Enough. I want to talk to an actual human being.
CUT TO REALITY.

ARIEL: Baby, I need to talk.

REMARK: Based on a real case. Dialogue dramatized; not a 100% verbatim account.
