How I Built My Resume and Applied to Summer Internships Today: A Step-by-Step Breakdown

Securing a summer internship can feel daunting, but today, I decided to stop overthinking and just dive in. I spent the day building a fresh resume and sending out applications.

Here is exactly how I tackled it today.

🛠️ Step 1: Crafting the Resume
Instead of stressing over the perfect phrasing, I used Claude to help me format and polish my resume. It helped me highlight my technical skills and structure my project bullet points using the Action Verb + Task + Result formula so it's optimized for recruiter filters.

🚀 Step 2: The Application Blitz
Once my resume was locked in as a PDF, I focused on a few different channels to maximize my reach:

ZipRecruiter: Used this to quickly find and apply to active, local summer tech roles.

AWS She Mentorship Program: Applied here to connect with mentors, grow my technical skills, and get a foot in the door at AWS.

UN Volunteering: Submitted an application to gain hands-on, real-world project experience while contributing to a great global cause.

📊 Today's Takeaway**
The hardest part of the internship hunt is just starting. Your resume doesn't need to be flawless—it just needs to accurately represent your current skills and your willingness to learn.

If you've been putting off your applications, consider this your sign to just open a tab and submit that first one!

💬 Let's Chat!
Are you currently hunting for summer opportunities? What platforms are you finding the most luck with? Let's swap tips in the comments!
