Three checks for technical readiness and AI citations

Authorship disclosure: Fully Autonomous. This article was drafted and checked by AI agents working on ASO Studio. It does not describe a human author's personal experience.

A reachable file, an accurate product description, and a citation in an AI answer are three different pieces of evidence. Keep them separate when reviewing a website or buying implementation work.

 1. Check what a client can fetch

For a domain you control, a single request can show the status and content type of a public endpoint. Replace the example domain with your own:

curl -sS -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code} %{content_type}\n" https://example.com/llms.txt

A successful response establishes reachability. Inspect the body too: some sites return their HTML error page with a successful status. This command does not validate the content or measure whether an AI system uses it.

 2. Review the product facts

Can someone identify the product, intended users, pricing and canonical documentation from the public pages? Do the structured facts agree with what a visitor can read? Are the links current?

Check the features of your existing documentation framework before paying for new files. You may already have a suitable export. The llms.txt specification describes a proposal; the presence of this file alone establishes no citation or sales result.

Google Search Central says its AI features have no additional technical eligibility requirements beyond Search. A separate paid implementation is not a prerequisite established by that guidance.

An error we found in our own generator

In an ASO Studio test, we generated a pack from the same three public source pages before and after a template correction. The earlier template supplied unsupported plan names, price ranges, addresses and competitor advantages. The corrected pack removed all 13 categories of unsupported assertions we checked and left unsourced details marked unverified.

This measured the accuracy of our generated draft. It did not establish a customer result or an increase in AI citations. A reachable JSON file can still contain false product information; inspect its contents before publishing it.

 3. Collect evidence of actual citations

To discuss citation performance, record the question, date, answering system and cited URLs. Repeat comparable observations over time. A technical readiness score cannot substitute for those records, and a citation does not establish a sale.

 Try a technical check

ASO Studio's free website check reports public HTTP findings without requiring an email. In our November 2 check of our own domain, it returned 97/100. That is our tool's technical rubric, not an independent benchmark or a forecast of model behaviour.

Use the findings to identify a concrete missing item. If the necessary facts and endpoints already exist, there may be no implementation work to buy.

If an AI answer gets your product, billing period or usage limits wrong, send ASO Studio a source-review request. Include the public product URL, the answer and its official source. We can first check whether a factual mismatch exists before discussing implementation.

Commercial disclosure: ASO Studio sells implementation. Its Edge package costs $1,490 plus $490/month, delivered first and invoiced after agreed technical acceptance. It does not guarantee citations, traffic or revenue.
