This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady

What I Built

SlothTidier is a local-first autonomous file organizer powered by the open-weight Qwen3 8B model running entirely on your own machine — no cloud, no API keys, no monthly bill.

It tackles the single most universally dreaded computer chore: the overflowing, chaotic Downloads folder full of cryptically named PDFs, duplicate screenshots, abandoned .sql files, and unopened tax receipts you've been quietly ignoring for months.

You dump the clutter. Sloan the Sloth — the AI agent — wakes up lazily, reads the file signatures, and then:

📁 Categorizes everything into organized semantic folders (01_Finances_&_Receipts, 02_Work_&_Contracts, 03_Dev_&_Configs, 04_Personal_Health, 05_Media_&_Recordings, 06_Junk_&_Archive)
✍️ Renames cryptic filenames into clean professional conventions (e.g. Scan_001923.jpg → invoice-herman-miller-desk-oct2026.jpg)
🗑️ Detects duplicates — accidental double-scans, filename (1).pdf copies, stale build logs — flags them for archiving
⚡ Extracts hidden to-dos — payment deadlines, doctor follow-up notes, expiring subscriptions buried inside documents you never opened
💻 Generates a one-click PowerShell (.ps1) or Bash (.sh) script that moves and renames your actual physical files on disk instantly

On the live demo, Qwen3 8B runs via the built-in offline heuristic engine (Render doesn't host local GPU inference). For full local Qwen3 8B inference with live <think> reasoning token streaming, clone the repo and point it at your local Ollama instance. Both modes are fully functional.

How I Built It

The entire intelligence layer is built around Qwen3 8B — a fully open-weight model published by Alibaba Cloud under the Apache 2.0 license. It runs locally through Ollama (open-source local inference engine) via http://127.0.0.1:11434.

What makes Qwen3 8B the right choice here:

Thinking/Reasoning Mode — It supports explicit <think>...</think> token streaming, so the app can show Sloan's internal monologue as he deliberates on your files in real time
Structured JSON Output — Reliably returns a schema-defined response with folder assignments, renamed filenames, duplicate flags, and extracted action items
8.2B Parameters — Fast enough on consumer hardware without requiring a GPU

How the pipeline works:

The fallback system: If Ollama isn't running, the app silently switches to a smart local heuristic engine — analyzing filenames, extensions, and naming patterns locally. No cloud API is ever called, not even as a fallback.

1. Zero Cloud Data Leakage

Sending any of this to a closed commercial API — even just the filenames — means transferring your private life to servers you do not control, cannot audit, and cannot get your data removed from.

When an MSME manufacturer, startup founder, or laboratory engineer asks an AI:

"What are the mandatory testing parameters under Scheme-I ISI Mark for IS 1786 (High Strength Deformed Steel Bars)?"

Standard commercial LLMs almost always fail catastrophically. They invent fictional standard numbers, cite revoked clauses, confuse voluntary Indian Standards with mandatory Quality Control Orders (QCOs), and hallucinate chemical tolerance limits. In regulatory engineering, a single fabricated number can lead to legal penalties or factory shutdowns.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) administers over 23,866 published Indian Standards (IS), hundreds of mandatory QCOs, and complex certification schemes (ISI Mark, CRS, Hallmarking, ECO Mark).

To solve this regulatory discovery bottleneck, we engineered BIS SmartAssist (MANAKAI) — a production-grade, domain-grounded conversational system with strict citation traceability and zero hallucination.

1. Dual-Channel Candidate Pooling

Lexical search excels at exact standard numbers (IS 1786, IS 1061), while semantic search captures natural descriptions (rebar testing, safety boots). We pool candidates from both channels:

Lexical: Okapi BM25 ($k_1=1.5, b=0.75$) indexed across 23,866 standards.
Semantic: 384-dimensional dense vectors with cosine similarity.
Scores are min-max normalized and merged via Reciprocal Rank Fusion.

2. Domain-Adapted Cross-Encoder Reranking

Top candidates are evaluated simultaneously by a cross-encoder (ms-marco-MiniLM-L-6-v2) fine-tuned with adversarial hard negatives. This lifts our Recall@5 to 98.00% and MRR to 0.9323.

3. Closed-Form Confidence Calibration

Confidence is computed in closed form using multi-signal telemetry:

Use Granular Prompts for Architectural Trade-offs: When asking Codex to build the candidate pooling layer, giving concrete formulas (e.g. Min-Max normalization and Reciprocal Rank Fusion) yielded production-ready code with clean typing.
Local Scrubbing First: Always sanitize sensitive environment variables (DATABASE_URL, API keys, local home directories) before sharing agent traces publicly.
Traceability Wins Hackathons: Having an interactive agent session embed ({% agent_session ... %}) gives readers and judges verifiable proof of how the solution was designed and coded.

Every tax season, freelancers, solo consultants, and creators face an expensive dilemma:

Predatory SaaS Pricing: Incumbents like QuickBooks and Expensify charge $180 to $360 every year on recurring subscriptions just to track 15–20 monthly business expenses.
Confidentiality & Privacy Breaches: Cloud platforms upload your private client invoices, bank slips, home addresses, and credit card numbers to remote cloud servers that mine transaction metadata.
Flaky Internet Dependencies: Digital nomads and freelancers frequently work on trains, flights, coffee shops, and client job sites where cloud-only web apps fail.

I built LedgerVault AI — a 100% on-device, zero-cloud invoice and receipt intelligence workspace designed for freelancers and independent contractors.

It executes optical character recognition (OCR), smart financial entity extraction, and IRS Schedule C tax write-off classification directly in the user’s browser and local machine.

How I Built It

LedgerVault AI is built around a hybrid open-source AI architecture that guarantees speed, accuracy, and total data sovereignty:

Client-Side WASM Vision Engine (tesseract.js):
- Processes uploaded receipt images and PDFs directly inside a background Web Worker without blocking the main UI thread.
- Extracts raw text tokens and coordinates for interactive visual verification.
Local Ollama Inference Engine:
- Directly interfaces with locally running open-weight models (llama3.2:latest, qwen2.5:latest, or smollm2) via http://localhost:11434.
- Enforces a deterministic JSON extraction schema to accurately parse merchant, transaction date, subtotal, tax/VAT, payment method, and individual line items.
IRS Schedule C Tax Classification Engine:
- Automatically maps extracted expenses into legal IRS tax buckets:
  - Software & SaaS Subscriptions (100% Deductible — Line 18)

What I Built

Trail Companion is an offline-first Progressive Web App (PWA) built to do something unusual for an AI app: get people off the screen and into the real world.

Most nature identification tools force you to be tethered to a cellular network. You hike into a national park, spot a rare bird or autumn leaf, pull out your phone—and stare at a loading spinner because there's no signal. Even worse, your location coordinates and photos get uploaded to centralized servers.

Trail Companion turns your phone into an autonomous on-device field scanner:

🌲 Zero-Signal Nature Identification: Point your camera at any tree leaf, songbird, wildflower, mushroom, or insect. The open-weight vision model identifies the species in ~140ms right inside your browser—no internet connection, no servers, and zero API keys.
🥾 Screen-Free Walk Mode: Using the Page Visibility API, the app tracks how much of your hike you spent off-screen. It calculates a real-time "Touch Grass" percentage, rewarding you for keeping your phone in your pocket.
📵 Anti-Screen Negative Detector: Point the camera at a laptop, monitor, or office desk, and the model flags it immediately: "That's not grass 📵. Put the phone down, open a door, and find the nearest tree."
🎶 Sound of the Trail: An offline Web Audio synthesizer that generates authentic bird whistling calls and autumn wind rustles, helping hikers learn species by ear without downloading heavy audio files.
🏅 Trail Badges & Daily Bingo: 8 offline achievements (e.g. Foliage Scout, Songbird Seeker, True Grass Toucher) and a 3×3 bingo card that update dynamically as you explore.
🎨 Nature Passport Canvas Export: Generates a shareable high-resolution field passport graphic with your photos and walk statistics directly to an HTML5 Canvas.
🔬 Zero-Shot "Teach a Species": Encounter a rare local plant? Type its common name in the Studio, and the open-weight text encoder computes new embeddings on-device in seconds. No model retraining required.

How I Built It

Trail Companion is architected entirely around open-weight foundation models and open-source local inference:

1. The Open-Weight Core: CLIP ViT-B/16

We utilized OpenAI's open-weight CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining) ViT-B/16, converted to ONNX by the open-source community (Xenova/clip-vit-base-patch16).

CLIP projects both images and natural language text into a shared 512-dimensional vector space. Classification is performed via vector cosine similarity:

2. Local Inference via Transformers.js & ONNX Runtime Web

We execute inference inside the browser using Transformers.js v4 on top of ONNX Runtime Web:

int8 Quantization: Using the quantized vision encoder (q8) cut the download size down from 345 MB to just 87 MB.
WASM Acceleration: Runs on WebAssembly SIMD in a background worker, delivering blazing inference times (130–160ms per image) on consumer laptops and mobile devices.
Cache Storage: The model weights persist in the browser's Cache Storage. Once cached, the app operates with complete autonomy in airplane mode.

3. Build-Time Prompt Ensembling

To avoid forcing mobile users to download both the text encoder (64 MB) and the vision encoder (87 MB), we decoupled the two:

At build time, scripts/build-embeddings.mjs runs the open-weight text encoder across our 76 species using prompt templates (e.g. "a photo of a Northern Cardinal, a type of bird").
The resulting vectors are shipped in a tiny 208 KB file (data/text-embeddings.json).
Mobile devices only download the vision encoder, saving bandwidth and battery.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

This week's challenge asks: Where does an open-based approach work better than a closed one? For Trail Companion, closed APIs simply could not have powered this app:

True Backcountry Reliability: Proprietary APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic) require a live internet connection. In state parks, forests, and remote valleys, cell towers don't exist. An open-weight model running locally is the only architecture that actually works when you're touching grass.
Absolute Privacy of Location & Imagery: Nature enthusiasts and families frequently log GPS-tagged trail photos. By running inference on-device, 0 kb of personal image or location data leaves the device. There are no accounts, no server databases, and no behavioral tracking.
Zero Marginal Infrastructure Cost: Calling a cloud multimodal vision API for every camera snap incurs ongoing API bills and rate limits. With open-weight models on client hardware, hosting costs are $0.00—the app can live on static hosting forever without maintenance fees.
Instant Zero-Shot Extensibility: Closed vision classification services restrict you to predetermined taxonomy IDs. Because open-weight CLIP is a dual-encoder, anyone can teach the app an endemic plant from their region in seconds without retraining or fine-tuning.

This project was built collaboratively with an AI coding agent through pair-programming: from architecting the build-time embedding pipeline and writing headless accuracy checks in Node.js, to engineering the white & emerald green design system, synthesis of Web Audio bird whistles, and browser subagent end-to-end verification.

Using a mobile viewport simulation (430×900):
- Model Status: Cached in Cache Storage; top pill shows Offline-ready.
- Anti-Screen Test: Desk screenshot triggered the "That's not grass" screen-free reminder.
- Monarch Test: Identified at 82%, played audio cue, and saved to IndexedDB.
- Guide Tab: Search for "oak" returned Northern Red Oak & English Oak; category filters showed 8 fungi species.
- Walk Badges: Unlocked First Step and Pollinator Pal dynamically.
- Nature Passport: Generated the 800×1000 PNG card with observation photos and stats.

2. How to Scale This Architecture to 5,000+ Species

Because our project uses dual-encoder CLIP, you don't need to retrain a heavy neural network from scratch to support 5,000 species. There are two practical ways to do it:

Method A: Expand the Precomputed Label Bank (Easiest & Fastest)

In our current pipeline, the browser only downloads the vision encoder (~87 MB). The text embeddings for all species are precomputed and stored in data/text-embeddings.json.

Extract Taxonomy from Kaggle: Download the metadata CSV (e.g. categories.json or train_mini.json from the iNaturalist Kaggle competition). Extract:
- Common name
- Scientific binomial
- Kingdom / Class (Aves, Plantae, Fungi, Insecta)
Batch Embed with Node.js / Python: Run scripts/build-embeddings.mjs on the Kaggle species list.
Memory Footprint:
- Each 512-dimension vector takes only 2 KB.
- 1,000 species = ~2 MB file.
- 5,000 species = ~10 MB file.
Speed in Browser: Computing dot products between 1 image vector and 5,000 label vectors takes less than 10 milliseconds in JavaScript using a typed Float32Array.

Method B: Benchmark Accuracy Using Kaggle Test Sets

You can download 1,000 Kaggle test images across various categories and run our headless test script:

This lets you calculate your top-1 and top-5 accuracy percentages and tune your text prompts (e.g. adding specific cues like "bark of an oak", "underside gills of a mushroom").

Method C: Use BioCLIP (Open-Weight Model Trained on iNaturalist)

If you want expert-level biological accuracy, there is an open-weight model called BioCLIP (imageomics/bioclip), which was specifically pretrained on the iNaturalist dataset. You can convert BioCLIP to ONNX format with:

3. Pro Architecture: GPS-Aware Regional Filtering

If you scale to 20,000 species worldwide, asking the model to distinguish between an Amazonian parrot and an Arctic gull on every snap can introduce false positives.

A high-performance pattern is offline geo-filtering:
1. Store a lightweight mapping of species_id -> region_code (e.g., NA-EAST, EU-CENTRAL, IN-SOUTH).
2. When the user opens the app or turns on GPS, the app filters the 20,000 candidates down to the ~600 species actually found in their local ecosystem.
3. This boosts accuracy significantly and keeps inference instantaneous.

Summary

You can download the iNaturalist 2021 metadata CSV from Kaggle, script the generation of several thousand species vectors into data/text-embeddings.json, and the existing app will scale to thousands of species with zero changes to the client runtime.

## What I Built

**Trail Companion** is an offline-first Progressive Web App (PWA) built to do something unusual for an AI app: **get people off the screen and into the real world**.

Most nature identification tools force you to be tethered to a cellular network. You hike into a national park, spot a rare bird or autumn leaf, pull out your phone—and stare at a loading spinner because there's no signal. Even worse, your location coordinates and photos get uploaded to centralized servers.

Trail Companion turns your phone into an **autonomous on-device field scanner**:
- 🌲 **Zero-Signal Nature Identification**: Point your camera at any tree leaf, songbird, wildflower, mushroom, or insect. The open-weight vision model identifies the species in **~140ms** right inside your browser—no internet connection, no servers, and zero API keys.
- 🥾 **Screen-Free Walk Mode**: Using the Page Visibility API, the app tracks how much of your hike you spent **off-screen**. It calculates a real-time *"Touch Grass"* percentage, rewarding you for keeping your phone in your pocket.
- 📵 **Anti-Screen Negative Detector**: Point the camera at a laptop, monitor, or office desk, and the model flags it immediately: *"That's not grass 📵. Put the phone down, open a door, and find the nearest tree."*
- 🎶 **Sound of the Trail**: An offline Web Audio synthesizer that generates authentic bird whistling calls and autumn wind rustles, helping hikers learn species by ear without downloading heavy audio files.
- 🏅 **Trail Badges & Daily Bingo**: 8 offline achievements (e.g. *Foliage Scout*, *Songbird Seeker*, *True Grass Toucher*) and a 3×3 bingo card that update dynamically as you explore.
- 🎨 **Nature Passport Canvas Export**: Generates a shareable high-resolution field passport graphic with your photos and walk statistics directly to an HTML5 Canvas.
- 🔬 **Zero-Shot "Teach a Species"**: Encounter a rare local plant? Type its common name in the Studio, and the open-weight text encoder computes new embeddings on-device in seconds. No model retraining required.

## How I Built It

Trail Companion is architected entirely around **open-weight foundation models and open-source local inference**:

### 1. The Open-Weight Core: CLIP ViT-B/16
We utilized OpenAI's open-weight **CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining) ViT-B/16**, converted to ONNX by the open-source community ([Xenova/clip-vit-base-patch16](https://huggingface.co/Xenova/clip-vit-base-patch16)).

CLIP projects both images and natural language text into a shared 512-dimensional vector space. Classification is performed via vector cosine similarity:

### 2. Local Inference via Transformers.js & ONNX Runtime Web
We execute inference inside the browser using **Transformers.js v4** on top of ONNX Runtime Web:
- **int8 Quantization**: Using the quantized vision encoder (`q8`) cut the download size down from 345 MB to just **87 MB**.
- **WASM Acceleration**: Runs on WebAssembly SIMD in a background worker, delivering blazing inference times (**130–160ms per image**) on consumer laptops and mobile devices.
- **Cache Storage**: The model weights persist in the browser's Cache Storage. Once cached, the app operates with complete autonomy in airplane mode.

### 3. Build-Time Prompt Ensembling
To avoid forcing mobile users to download both the text encoder (64 MB) and the vision encoder (87 MB), we decoupled the two:
- At build time, `scripts/build-embeddings.mjs` runs the open-weight text encoder across our 76 species using prompt templates (e.g. *"a photo of a Northern Cardinal, a type of bird"*).
- The resulting vectors are shipped in a tiny **208 KB** file (`data/text-embeddings.json`).
- Mobile devices only download the vision encoder, saving bandwidth and battery.

## Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

This week's challenge asks: *Where does an open-based approach work better than a closed one?* For Trail Companion, **closed APIs simply could not have powered this app**:

1. **True Backcountry Reliability**:
   Proprietary APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic) require a live internet connection. In state parks, forests, and remote valleys, cell towers don't exist. An open-weight model running locally is the **only architecture that actually works when you're touching grass**.
2. **Absolute Privacy of Location & Imagery**:
   Nature enthusiasts and families frequently log GPS-tagged trail photos. By running inference on-device, **0 kb of personal image or location data leaves the device**. There are no accounts, no server databases, and no behavioral tracking.
3. **Zero Marginal Infrastructure Cost**:
   Calling a cloud multimodal vision API for every camera snap incurs ongoing API bills and rate limits. With open-weight models on client hardware, hosting costs are **$0.00**—the app can live on static hosting forever without maintenance fees.
4. **Instant Zero-Shot Extensibility**:
   Closed vision classification services restrict you to predetermined taxonomy IDs. Because open-weight CLIP is a dual-encoder, anyone can teach the app an endemic plant from their region in seconds without retraining or fine-tuning.

## What I Built

**Trail Companion** is an offline-first Progressive Web App (PWA) built to do something unusual for an AI app: **get people off the screen and into the real world**.

Most nature identification tools force you to be tethered to a cellular network. You hike into a national park, spot a rare bird or autumn leaf, pull out your phone—and stare at a loading spinner because there's no signal. Even worse, your location coordinates and photos get uploaded to centralized servers.

Trail Companion turns your phone into an **autonomous on-device field scanner**:
- 🌲 **Zero-Signal Nature Identification**: Point your camera at any tree leaf, songbird, wildflower, mushroom, or insect. The open-weight vision model identifies the species in **~140ms** right inside your browser—no internet connection, no servers, and zero API keys.
- 🥾 **Screen-Free Walk Mode**: Using the Page Visibility API, the app tracks how much of your hike you spent **off-screen**. It calculates a real-time *"Touch Grass"* percentage, rewarding you for keeping your phone in your pocket.
- 📵 **Anti-Screen Negative Detector**: Point the camera at a laptop, monitor, or office desk, and the model flags it immediately: *"That's not grass 📵. Put the phone down, open a door, and find the nearest tree."*
- 🎶 **Sound of the Trail**: An offline Web Audio synthesizer that generates authentic bird whistling calls and autumn wind rustles, helping hikers learn species by ear without downloading heavy audio files.
- 🏅 **Trail Badges & Daily Bingo**: 8 offline achievements (e.g. *Foliage Scout*, *Songbird Seeker*, *True Grass Toucher*) and a 3×3 bingo card that update dynamically as you explore.
- 🎨 **Nature Passport Canvas Export**: Generates a shareable high-resolution field passport graphic with your photos and walk statistics directly to an HTML5 Canvas.
- 🔬 **Zero-Shot "Teach a Species"**: Encounter a rare local plant? Type its common name in the Studio, and the open-weight text encoder computes new embeddings on-device in seconds. No model retraining required.

The entire codebase is open-source under the MIT License.

### Key Architecture:
- **`index.html`**: Semantic PWA with clean white & emerald green design system across 6 dedicated views (`Home`, `Field Scanner`, `Native Guide`, `Walk Mode`, `Field Journal`, and `Studio`).
- **`css/style.css`**: Professional high-contrast white & forest green aesthetic with bento grids, glassmorphism cards, and fluid layouts.
- **`js/worker.js`**: Dedicated Web Worker running Transformers.js on WebAssembly SIMD without locking the UI thread.
- **`js/scoring.js`**: Shared zero-shot cosine similarity and softmax calculation.
- **`js/species.js`**: Curated taxonomy of 76 native flora and fauna species.
- **`scripts/build-embeddings.mjs`**: Build-time prompt ensembling that precomputes text embeddings into a compact 208 KB JSON file.
- **`sw.js`**: Service worker providing cache-first offline capability.

## How I Built It

Trail Companion is architected entirely around **open-weight foundation models and open-source local inference**:

### 1. The Open-Weight Core: CLIP ViT-B/16
We utilized OpenAI's open-weight **CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining) ViT-B/16**, converted to ONNX by the open-source community ([Xenova/clip-vit-base-patch16](https://huggingface.co/Xenova/clip-vit-base-patch16)).

CLIP projects both images and natural language text into a shared 512-dimensional vector space. Classification is performed via vector cosine similarity:
$$\text{similarity} = \frac{\mathbf{v}_{\text{image}} \cdot \mathbf{v}_{\text{text}}}{\|\mathbf{v}_{\text{image}}\| \|\mathbf{v}_{\text{text}}\|}$$

### 2. Local Inference via Transformers.js & ONNX Runtime Web
We execute inference inside the browser using **Transformers.js v4** on top of ONNX Runtime Web:
- **int8 Quantization**: Using the quantized vision encoder (`q8`) cut the download size down from 345 MB to just **87 MB**.
- **WASM Acceleration**: Runs on WebAssembly SIMD in a background worker, delivering blazing inference times (**130–160ms per image**) on consumer laptops and mobile devices.
- **Cache Storage**: The model weights persist in the browser's Cache Storage. Once cached, the app operates with complete autonomy in airplane mode.

### 3. Build-Time Prompt Ensembling
To avoid forcing mobile users to download both the text encoder (64 MB) and the vision encoder (87 MB), we decoupled the two:
- At build time, `scripts/build-embeddings.mjs` runs the open-weight text encoder across our 76 species using prompt templates (e.g. *"a photo of a Northern Cardinal, a type of bird"*).
- The resulting vectors are shipped in a tiny **208 KB** file (`data/text-embeddings.json`).
- Mobile devices only download the vision encoder, saving bandwidth and battery.

## Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

This week's challenge asks: *Where does an open-based approach work better than a closed one?* For Trail Companion, **closed APIs simply could not have powered this app**:

1. **True Backcountry Reliability**:
   Proprietary APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic) require a live internet connection. In state parks, forests, and remote valleys, cell towers don't exist. An open-weight model running locally is the **only architecture that actually works when you're touching grass**.
2. **Absolute Privacy of Location & Imagery**:
   Nature enthusiasts and families frequently log GPS-tagged trail photos. By running inference on-device, **0 kb of personal image or location data leaves the device**. There are no accounts, no server databases, and no behavioral tracking.
3. **Zero Marginal Infrastructure Cost**:
   Calling a cloud multimodal vision API for every camera snap incurs ongoing API bills and rate limits. With open-weight models on client hardware, hosting costs are **$0.00**—the app can live on static hosting forever without maintenance fees.
4. **Instant Zero-Shot Extensibility**:
   Closed vision classification services restrict you to predetermined taxonomy IDs. Because open-weight CLIP is a dual-encoder, anyone can teach the app an endemic plant from their region in seconds without retraining or fine-tuning.

What I Built

Every family has a loved one—a Nonno, Abuela, or aunt—whose cooking is magical, yet they never write down a single recipe. When asked, they send a rambling voice memo: "a splash of olive oil, reduce whole milk slow, brown until it smells like home."

I built KitchenTales for Nonno Giuseppe, Abuela Carmen, Auntie Priya, and Elena to capture and preserve their spoken culinary soul before it's lost to time.

KitchenTales turns casual audio voice memos into structured heirloom recipe cards using open-weight AI:

Colloquial Normalization: Translates unmeasured speech ("a pinch of this, a couple splashes") into culinary measurements.
Family Secret Isolation: Detects and highlights unwritten heritage techniques (e.g., nutmeg milk reduction, aroma traps, hot honey glaze).
Hands-Free Cook Mode: Powered by warm ElevenLabs voice narration and continuous voice commands ("Next", "Back", "Timer") so dirty hands never touch the screen.
Smart Pantry & Dietary Adapters: Swaps missing ingredients and converts dishes to Vegan or Gluten-Free in one click.

Every family has a friend, grandmother, or uncle whose cooking is pure magic—yet they never write down a single recipe.

Whenever you ask how to recreate their signature ragù, focaccia, dal, or birria, they send an unmeasured, rambling voice memo:

"Listen kiddo, brown your chuck roast slow until it crusts, throw in whatever carrots and onions you have, grate a little nutmeg, and add a splash of milk before the wine... that's the secret nobody tells you."

Handwritten notes get grease-stained and lost. Generic recipe blogs lack the intimate family tricks. KitchenTales was built to preserve these irreplaceable audio memories forever.

Continuous Voice Commands: Native SpeechRecognition listener detects spoken triggers ("next", "back", "repeat", "timer") without touching the screen.

100% Privacy: Generational family voices, laughter, and personal stories stay private on device—never fed into commercial cloud training sets.
Works Completely Offline: Family cooking happens in cabins, beaches, and remote kitchens without Wi-Fi. Gemma runs locally on consumer hardware.
