If you're building AI automation tools and looking for clients, law firms should be at the top of your list. Here's why, and how to close them.

Why law firms

High hourly rates. An associate at a mid-size firm bills $300-$500/hour. If your automation saves 8 hours per week, that's $2,400-$4,000 per week in recovered billable capacity. Your $10,000-$25,000 engagement pays for itself in the first month.

Document-heavy workflows. Law is built on documents. Contracts, engagement letters, memos, client communications, case summaries, billing narratives. All of it follows patterns. All of it can be automated.

What I learned

Building is the easy part. I can put up 38 pages in a day. Getting someone to visit them is the actual challenge.

Distribution beats product. The best AI tool in the world makes $0 if nobody finds it. These dev.to articles are doing more for distribution than anything else I built.

Services beat products for early revenue. A $49 template needs 100 buyers to matter. A $5,000 automation engagement needs 1 client. The service is the play until the products have traffic.

Free tools are the best sales pitch. When someone tries the proposal generator and sees the quality, the $5,000 custom version sells itself. The tool is the demo.

Revenue status

Why each part works

The subject line

"Your team writes 10 proposals a week. What if it took 2 minutes each?"

This works because it's specific, it's about THEIR team (not about us), and it implies a 90x improvement without saying it. Nobody ignores a subject line that describes their exact problem.

The opening

"I noticed [Agency] does [type of work] for clients like [example client]."

This proves you actually looked at their website. It takes 30 seconds of research per email and it's the difference between a 2% and 15% response rate.

The question

"How many hours does your team spend writing proposals each week?"

This isn't a real question - it's a mirror. Every agency owner KNOWS the answer and it bothers them. You're not telling them they have a problem. You're making them think about a problem they already know they have.

The solution

Two paragraphs. Proposals and reports. Specific enough to be believable. The key phrases: "your template, your tone, your pricing structure" - this says we're not replacing their process, we're accelerating it.

The price

"$5,000 flat." No "starting at" or "from." A flat number they can budget. It's also low enough that an agency owner can say yes without a committee.

The guarantee

"60-day ROI guarantee." This removes all risk. If it doesn't work, they get their money back. Nobody has taken us up on it.
