The Hidden Hunger of Refugees Along the Thailand–Myanmar Border

More than 100,000 refugees from Myanmar are living in a state of invisibility along the Thailand–Myanmar border. They are stateless, have no legal right to work, no access to formal education for their children, and no guarantee of daily food. Many of them have fled ethnic and religious persecution yet remain unrecognized by any government. As a result, they are denied even the most basic human rights—such as the right to food.
This is not a distant humanitarian crisis. It is a** “silent emergency” **unfolding in one of the most visited countries in Asia: Thailand.

A Crisis of Identity, A Crisis of Survival
According to the latest data from UNHCR (May 2025), there are 1.485 million refugees from Myanmar worldwide. In Thailand, approximately 82,400 refugees currently reside in temporary shelters along the Thailand–Myanmar border—most of whom arrived before February 2021. However, tens of thousands remain outside the system, undocumented and unprotected. Many are Karen or Karenni, who have faced discrimination based on their ethnicity and Christian faith. These stateless families are not only battling hunger, but also struggling to exist in a world where they are rendered invisible.
(Source: UNHCR Operational Data Portal: Myanmar Situation, 2025)

Many children born in refugee areas do not even have a birth certificate. This means they are stateless from birth with no access to schooling, healthcare, or legal employment. Such a lack of opportunity leads to generational poverty, which continues to deepen.

“We don’t want much... just food to eat”
When a 12-year-old girl saw her younger brother crying from hunger, she folded her hands in prayer—not for toys, not for schoolbooks, but simply for “one meal.” That evening, her family received an emergency food box from Avoda Foundation. Inside were herbal porridge and sun-dried bananas—simple items that, for this stateless family, felt like “a priceless gift.”

Stories like hers are not unusual. They are a daily reality. These families are not eligible for government food aid. Parents must take unstable day labor such as crop picking, carrying bricks, or construction—often earning far below the minimum wage. When work is unavailable or illness strikes, they may go entire days without food, just to survive.

Nutrition Is a Human Right
Malnutrition is widespread among refugee children along the Thailand–Myanmar border. The lack of protein and essential vitamins results in stunted growth, weak immune systems, and delayed brain development. Pregnant women often give birth to underweight babies or suffer from anemia.

Here, food insecurity is not just about calories—it’s about long-term community well-being.

For this reason, Avoda Foundation has created Emergency Nutrition Boxes for the most vulnerable refugee families. These meals are culturally appropriate, have a long shelf life, and are ready to eat—ideal for refugees without access to kitchens or cooking equipment.

Avoda: A Mission of Hope and Transformation
Avoda Foundation is a Christian, non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for displaced children, families, and stateless individuals along the Thailand–Myanmar border. We focus on urgent needs such as food aid, education, legal protection, and vocational development.

We believe that “quality food” should not be a privilege—it is a basic human right. That’s why our emergency food program exists alongside our school, which offers education to stateless children with no access to formal learning.

In addition, Avoda provides legal assistance, family counseling, and youth development programs to ensure sustainable opportunities—not just for today, but for the future.

Voices from Avoda: Where Hope Begins with Understanding
“We know we can’t change everyone’s life overnight, but we can start with one food box and one moment of listening from the heart,” said one Avoda field staff member, who had walked along muddy trails to reach a newly arrived refugee family.

“When we arrived, their temporary shelter was a fragile bamboo hut without a proper roof. The children sat quietly under a tarp, and the parents didn’t ask for anything. They just looked at us in silence. When we placed the food box in front of them, the mother began to cry without a word.”

Avoda’s work is not just about handing out supplies. It is about affirming human dignity. Every food box says: They matter. They are not forgotten.

The road isn’t easily filled with difficult terrain, language barriers, and legal restrictions. Yet our team keeps going, because we believe that compassion does not need to wait for a perfect world.

Questions Worth Asking

If a child goes to sleep hungry under a tarp in the forest, while our fridge is full—can the world still be called just?

If $10/month can change a life, what are we waiting for?

We only ask that you do not look away.

Be the driving force behind change. Join Avoda’s Emergency Food Aid mission and help restore human dignity to those who need it most.

Restoring the Right to Live: Education for Forgotten Children at the Thai Myanmar Border

“Some children are born without a name in any system. No birth certificate. No right to go to school. Not even the right to exist openly. They didn’t choose to be born into war, but they’ve been running from bombs and gunfire for as long as they can remember.”

Though they have survived war, these children still live hidden in the shadows of the law. They are stateless children, without legal identity, safety, education, or a future. This is not a scene from a war film—it is the reality of thousands of children along the Thai Myanmar border who have been forgotten.

Fleeing the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, countless boys, girls, and mothers have crossed into Thailand illegally. While they may have escaped bullets, they now face another silent, deadly, and enduring war—the war of inequality in rights.

These children have no legal documents, no birth registration, and thus no access to the basic human rights that every child should have.

"For children born without identity, where does education stand? Is it still a right—or a distant hope waiting to be noticed?"

In a world that talks about AI, advanced learning, and global skills development, some children don’t even have a desk, a notebook, or a place in any classroom. Many grow up in refugee camps or remote hill tribe communities where it no longer matters whether they are “Thai” or “Burmese”—what matters is that they have no opportunity.

Avoda Learning Center: Answering the Call for Opportunity

In a place with no safety net, Avoda Learning Center was established with a simple yet powerful mission: “To give every child the right to learn.”

But here, education is more than textbooks. Children at Avoda learn that they are seen. That they matter. That they are capable. That they have the right to dream as big as any other child.

They don’t just learn to pass exams—they learn to understand themselves, the world, and each other. They are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, and express their thoughts in a safe environment. Some children who were once too shy to even say their names now speak confidently in classroom discussions.

One young girl shared: “Before I came here, I never believed someone like me had the right to be heard. But when my teacher said that every child has value, something changed. I started to believe it. I still need help, I still need support—but I want to keep learning. Because this place makes me feel like I’m truly human.”

Her words speak for many others—children still learning to stand, who need a hand to hold and someone who sees their worth. Education at Avoda isn’t just knowledge—it’s dignity, hope, and humanity restored.

Another girl from a hill community recalled being denied entry to a school simply because she had no ID card. “It felt like being exiled from the world. Like there was no place for me to exist.”

When she joined Avoda Learning Center, she was welcomed by her name—not by a document. No one asked for her nationality. No one branded her illegal. Here, children are not judged by their citizenship, ethnicity, or religion. Every child is seen as equally valuable and deserving of the right to education they should have had from the beginning.

From Risk Zone to Safe Space

Avoda is more than a school. It is a Safe Space for children who were once abandoned. Volunteer teachers share stories of children who were once aggressive, rude, or withdrawn—shaped by violence and neglect. But from the very first day, when someone called them by name, gave them a hug, and spoke with kindness, something shifted.

“Because education isn’t just teaching—it’s healing the human soul.”

Avoda also provides transportation for children living in distant villages. Children who used to travel through forests and rivers daily—only to be turned away by public schools—now ride Avoda’s van with joy, knowing that today they will learn and simply live like a child should.

From Inequality to Justice

Avoda’s program doesn’t aim to replace the government. It fills the gap where the system still cannot reach. Because every child, no matter where they come from, deserves an equal start. True education is not just knowledge—it is the restoration of rights, hope, dignity, and a future. And none of this would be possible—without you.

Be Part of the Change:

Donate $10/month to support a child's education or
transportation to school

Pray and share this mission with your friends or church
community

Speak up for stateless children who are still unseen by society

Reach out today—so no child has to battle for their basic rights alone.

Be part of us in restoring rights to children who’ve been forgotten.

Avoda Learning Center

The War and Poverty Have Robbed the Lives of Displaced Children

When the Sound of Bombs Destroys a Generation's Future
In some parts of the world, children wake up to the sound of alarm clocks to go to school. But on the other side of the border, many children wake up to gunfire, explosions, and the screams of people fleeing for their lives.
One night in Karen State, Myanmar, an eight-year-old girl was carried away from her home in the middle of a blazing fire. She couldn’t remember grabbing anything with her—only the clothes on her back and her mother’s tightly gripped hand. When they reached the Thai side, she no longer cried. She was too exhausted to have any tears left. That marked the beginning of a new life with no home, no citizenship, and no word for “school.”

That child has a name... but no future. She doesn’t know the word “teacher,” has never held a book, never stood in line for the national anthem, never heard the school bell ring. No one has ever asked her what she wants to be when she grows up—because the adults around her are just trying to survive each day.
The years-long war in Myanmar has pushed tens of thousands of children into the status of “stateless children” and “out of school.” They are forced to grow up in refugee camps or remote border villages. Many have to haul water, wash dishes, or take care of younger siblings before they’re even ten years old. Some fall victim to human trafficking. Some die from preventable diseases.
They are stripped of parents, homes, dreams, and even more painfully—stripped of “the opportunity to be just a child.” The sounds of bombs that we don’t hear still echo in these children’s minds every day. If no one extends a helping hand, that silence will consume them forever.

A School Filled with Hope and Teachers with Heart
When the entire world of children is confined to small villages on hilltops or in forgotten refugee camps, their definition of school may be nothing more than wooden planks and a blackboard. No desks. No books. No nationality. No choices. And seemingly, no one recognizes their needs.

In the context of border education, the Avoda Foundation has firmly stood and established the Avoda Learning Center for children who cannot attend school within the Thai state system because they are undocumented, stateless, and lack legal opportunity. This learning center is likened to a "school for stateless children," filled with understanding, love, and faith in the potential of children who have been overlooked by the world.
Children here learn Thai, Burmese, English, mathematics, and life skills. They receive primary healthcare, are cared for by teachers who understand the context of refugees, and above all... they have come to believe again that “they are valuable.”
This is a school surrounded by fencing for safety—but there is no segregation, no judgment. Only the hearts of teachers are filled with love and hope for the futures of these children. This is one of the tangible expressions of the Christian mission in education.

Learning That Heals and Transforms Lives
Educating which gently heals the scars of war, poverty, and abandonment. A child once silenced from the trauma of war begins to smile again when drawing a picture of home.

A child who once dared not make eye contact now raises their hand to answer questions in front of the classroom. A child who once did not even know the alphabet now reads, writes, and dreams of becoming a teacher—because she wants to return to her hometown to help others.

“Before I came to class, I didn’t know the alphabet at all. Now I can read. I want to be a teacher. I want to return home and teach the younger children.” — A girl from the Learning Center
Teaching here does not focus on competition, but on understanding, nurturing courage, fulfilling potential, and opening the door to hope—allowing children to overcome fear.
More than 200 children are currently studying at the center, and Avoda has set a goal to care for 500 children within five years. This is not merely a number—it is 500 lives of great worth, each of whom may grow up to become good citizens, witnesses of love, or servants in the future. For we believe that God restores the brokenhearted to become leaders of the land.

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes...” — 1 Samuel 2:8

A Small Light That You Can Help Ignite
Avoda believes that ending the cycle of poverty, violence, and the Burmese war crisis can begin with a “small classroom” filled with love, faith, and hope in God. But we can never do this without you.

You Can Help:
Support a Scholarship
Only $10/month can help one child continue their education.
Donate School Supplies
Notebooks, pencils, clothing, shoes — even the smallest act of kindness can be of great value to refugee children.
Join in Prayer and Share This Article

So, the world will not forget that the hope of borderland children is still waiting for a response.

No act of help is ever too small. No kindness is ever meaningless. When you reach out your hand, one child will no longer have to cry alone in the darkness.
**Because even in the darkest places… **there is still a “ray of hope”— if we help each other to light it. And God is always at work through the hearts of those who refuse to look away.

An article by Avoda Foundation

“If only we had just one more meal… and a helping hand, maybe my child wouldn’t have to fall asleep tonight with an empty stomach.”

The sobs of a mother still echo in our hearts as we recall distributing food along the Thai-Myanmar border, in a nameless village marked by loss and hopelessness. For some, “hunger” is just a temporary discomfort between meals. But for thousands of children fleeing war in Karen State, hunger is a constant companion—an enemy that kills without a single bullet.

At Avoda Foundation, we have witnessed firsthand that “food” is not just for filling stomachs. It is survival. It is faith. It is a chance to escape despair.
Through our Food Aid mission, we have spent years providing emergency meals and nutrition to displaced Karen refugees—families without homes, fleeing persecution, war, and poverty. Some families have 5 to 6 young children, no income, and no land to cultivate. The only thing they wait for each day is the sound of footsteps—those of the Avoda staff arriving with a box of food.

A young girl from the village told us:

“I dream of becoming a teacher, but my mother told me that if I want to go to school, I have to skip meals—because going to school costs money, and we don’t have enough to feed everyone.”
For her, food is not just about easing today’s hunger. It is a bridge—a bridge that could carry her from poverty to a brighter future.

When a Meal Becomes the Last Hope
An 8-year-old boy in a refugee camp said,
“When my stomach growls, I just hug myself tightly and try to fall asleep as quickly as I can—because if I’m asleep, I won’t feel hungry.”
The mother of another young girl once had to split a single banana between her three children. Only after they had fallen asleep did she eat the peel. She told our team,
“I’m not hoping to be rich... I just want my children to have enough food to grow, to have strength, and to be able to go to school.”
These words are not the voice of weakness. They are the voice of someone who still has hope. And that hope... is waiting for someone to answer.

The “Food Aid” Mission: An Answer to Prayer
At Avoda Foundation, we don’t just deliver food—we deliver the grace of God into empty hands and broken hearts.
Our Food Aid mission serves in remote, forgotten places—where access is difficult and attention is scarce. But because God continues to send people like you to be a part of this mission, we are able to deliver safe meals to children and families who have no other options.

One Food Aid box can change children tomorrow. When children are fed, they can go to school. And when they learn, they gain the opportunity to transform — not just their own lives, but the lives of future generations.

A Meal Filled with Grace
Feeding the hungry is not merely an act of kindness—it is a response to the Great **Commission*. In Matthew 25:35, Jesus said: “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in” Through every meal we deliver to these children and families, we are serving Christ Himself. We do not give food just to sustain life—but to remind them that they are not forgotten*.

✨To You, Our Dear Reader
If you have ever prayed, “Lord, use me to fulfill Your Kingdom’s work,”
Perhaps this is the answer to that prayer.
You may not be at the border, but you can send a meal to reach there. You may not have much time, but you can still be part of this story of grace…Now

A prayer for the hungry

“Dear God,
Strengthen the little ones whose voices have not yet been heard.
Sustain the families who are weary, and stir the hearts of those with abundance to respond in love.
May every meal delivered carry Your grace,
And may every hand that helps be filled with unending blessings.
Turn hunger into hope,
And refugees into followers of Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Be the hand God uses.

Learning brings joy to children

A Chance for a New Beginning

In a world where tens of thousands of children and youth face displacement and an uncertain future, one thing remains clear: education and opportunity are the keys to transforming lives.

Avoda Foundation steps in to fill this gap through the Pathway to Hope: Empowering Refugees Through Vocational Training project, which focuses on providing vulnerable youth with essential vocational skills. This initiative is not just about education; it is a bridge to a stable future, offering them the chance to build a new life for themselves.

Forced to flee with no other choice

These youth did not choose to flee their homes; they were pushed out by war and violence, forced to live as refugees, stateless, powerless, and hopeless along the Thailand-Myanmar border. Many Karen communities were driven from their homeland, oppressed, and forced to escape to land they could never call home.
Though the world has turned its back on them, Avoda believes that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and find hope—so that one day, they will inspire others and change their own future.

A Path Out of Poverty

For refugees, the lack of stable employment opportunities means they are trapped in a cycle of poverty. They often have no access to the essential skills needed for a sustainable livelihood. The Pathway to Hope project brings about a life-changing transformation by providing specialized training in elderly care to refugee youth, equipping them with in-demand skills that can be applied both in Thailand and abroad.

They have no jobs, no way forward

Elderly care is not only a service needed for societies with aging populations but is also a growing industry with increasing demand for trained workers worldwide. Avoda helps vulnerable youth learn vocational skills, gain employment in elderly care facilities, and earn stable income to support their families.
They are no longer just 'refugees'—they become skilled workers in demand, reducing the risks of human trafficking and exploitation.

A Life Transformed: The Story of Nume

Nume grew up in a small village in Myanmar, living with her aunt since she was six because her parents worked in Bangkok to send money to support the family. She had little contact with her father, who had fallen into alcoholism and forgotten his duties. Her aunt had to raise five children, so Nume helped care for her younger siblings, doing household chores and enduring exhaustion. But she was fortunate to receive an education, believing that it was the only way out of her family's hardships.

Nume gets a second chance at learning

Then one day... everything collapsed. War arrived, gunfire echoed through the village, and many houses were burned. People fled in chaos, with Burmese soldiers causing havoc. News of attacks in nearby villages sent everyone into panic, and they hid wherever they could find shelter. After three months of silence, Nume’s mother contacted her and urged her to escape to her cousin’s house in Mae Sot, Thailand. Nume set off in fear, traveling on foot through the forest and crossing rivers with a large group of refugees, hoping for a new beginning at the end of the journey. She thought of her mother, her home, and her old school.
But upon arrival in Thailand, she could not attend a public school. She had no documents, no identity in the eyes of the government—she was simply a "stateless" child with no chance to even pursue her dreams.

Then, a light of hope appeared. Avoda Foundation welcomed her with open arms. Nume was given the chance to study again. She made new friends, learned Thai and English, and developed skills she had never had before. Here, she discovered that education could truly change her life. Nume no longer had to hide. She had hope, she had a goal. She wanted a legal, stable job to help her family and offer the same opportunities to other children facing the same path she once did.
But there are still many more children waiting for the same opportunity as hers—will you be part of changing their lives?

Building a Sustainable Future

The importance of this project cannot be overlooked. As the number of refugees in Thailand rises each year, the need for support grows. Pathway to Hope is not a mere temporary solution; it is a chance to create a secure and sustainable future for the next generation. The project aims to establish a nursing assistant training school for elderly care, providing a lifeline to hundreds of refugee youth by giving them vocational skills and the opportunity to be a part of society.

In a world filled with opportunities and hope, there are still many children and youth trapped in a cycle of poverty and fear—especially among refugees fleeing the war in Myanmar and seeking safety in Thailand. These refugees face violence and insecurity in every aspect of their lives.

One shining beacon of hope is the Avoda Learning Center, a place of support and education for refugee children and youth from Myanmar living in Thailand. Education is a powerful tool that can break the cycle of poverty and displacement. The foundation firmly believes that providing quality education is the key to transforming the lives of these refugee children and youth—empowering them to move toward a future of stability and dignity.

Image from the Real Situation: Avoda Learning Center

Our Learning Center offers educational programs in three main areas:

1. Preparation for Entrance into Thai Schools:
Children around the age of 7 receive Thai language instruction to prepare them for the entrance exams required to attend Thai public schools.
2. Support for Students Enrolled in Thai Schools:
Students who pass the entrance exams and are admitted into Thai schools receive continuous support and guidance from the Learning Center. This ensures they can adapt to the Thai education system and successfully keep up with their studies.
3. Non-Formal Education:
Youth aged 15 and older who are unable to enroll in Thai schools are provided with non-formal education programs. These programs help them complete their high school education or obtain an equivalent qualification.

| The Story of Pa-Yaw-Pe: A Testament to the Power of Opportunity

Pa-Yaw-Pe, a 10-year-old girl from rural Myanmar, grew up in a family that wasn’t wealthy, but was full of love and warmth. Her parents worked hard every day to support the family. Before heading out to work, they would always tell her, “Study hard, so you can have a good career.” Those simple words became a powerful motivation in Pa-Yaw-Pe’s heart. She loved learning and studied diligently, believing that education was the key to changing her life and lifting her family out of poverty.

Life in the countryside was simple and filled with warmth. Though not rich, the family shared smiles and hope every day. But everything changed in an instant when the sound of gunfire and explosions began creeping closer. The growing conflict in the country had erupted into a civil war. Fear replaced the peace that once filled the hearts of Pa-Yaw-Pe and her family.

Amid the chaos, her parents made the painful decision to flee for their lives. As they hurried to gather their belongings, the heavy sound of boots and shouting pierced the air — “All men must join the fight!” Myanmar soldiers had arrived at their doorstep with brutal orders. If they refused — the entire family would be executed.

Image from the Real Situation: Refugee Shelter

In a single moment, the warmth of home was shattered. Pa-Yaw-Pe’s father was taken away by force right before her eyes. Her mother and she had to fight back their tears and flee their homeland. Pa-Yaw-Pe cried the entire way — crossing forests, wading through streams — in search of safety in Thailand, her heart broken, not knowing whether any safety truly lay at the end of their escape.

Even after crossing the border, life did not get any easier. Pa-Yaw-Pe became an “invisible child” — without documentation, without opportunities, without a school, and without a future. She lived quietly, following her mother to work in the fields and farms, doing odd jobs in exchange for rice just to survive. The little girl who once loved learning and dreamed of a better life had to stop going to school, with no idea what her future would hold.

Everything seemed hopeless. There was no way forward…

Until one day, a small light of hope shone into Pa-Yaw-Pe’s life. A teacher from Avoda visited the border communities to check on children enrolled in their learning program. That’s when she happened to meet Pa-Yaw-Pe — a face she didn’t recognize. Concerned, the teacher gently bent down and asked, “What’s your name? Would you like to go to school?”

Pa-Yaw-Pe’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Yes, I want to learn,” she replied without hesitation.

This good news brought tears of joy to her mother’s eyes. Pa-Yaw-Pe was finally able to return to school—and she continues to study diligently, always remembering her parents’ words: “Study hard, so you can have a good job.”

Pa-Yaw-Pe always remembers: "Study hard so you can have a good job."

Today, Pa-Yaw-Pe is no longer a child who must hide in the shadows. She is walking a new path filled with hope, purpose, and a deep belief that one day, she will be able to change her future—and care for her mother in return.
But many children are still waiting for that same opportunity...

Avoda Learning Center is not just a school. It is a bridge—from a painful past to a brighter future. Investing in this program means investing in the lives of children like Pa-Yaw-Pe, who still wait along the border, hoping for their chance.

Are you ready to be part of the change in their lives?

You can become part of this journey of hope. A donation of just $10 per month can open the door of transformation for one child—and could be the beginning of many more inspiring stories to come.

Join us in changing lives today. Because everyone deserves a chance at a better future.

A Heartfelt Journey: Peter and Nelly’s Mission to Feed the Hungry

As the sun began to rise over the rolling hills of Maesot, Thailand, Peter and Nelly sat quietly in the back of a pickup truck, their hearts heavy with anticipation. This wasn’t the first time they had volunteered with the Avoda Foundation, but each trip to the Thai-Myanmar border brought a new sense of urgency. Today, they would be helping distribute 500 emergency food boxes to Burmese Karen refugees, many of whom had fled from the horrors of war, seeking safety in a foreign land.

The Truck Transporting Food Aid Boxes

Peter & Nelly, both Christians, they had felt a deep calling to support those in need, and the moment they discovered the work of Avoda Foundation, they knew they had to be involved.

Peter, a kind-hearted man from Pennsylvania, sat next to his wife Nelly, a woman whose compassion matched his own. Both Christians, they had felt a deep calling to support those in need, and the moment they discovered the work of Avoda Foundation, they knew they had to be involved. They knew it wasn’t just about providing food—it was about restoring hope, offering solace, and sharing God's love with those who had nothing but the clothes on their backs….

| The Struggle of the Forgotten

As the truck slowly made its way through the rough terrain, Peter couldn’t help but think of the lives they were about to touch. The refugees they were about to meet lived in dire conditions, with makeshift shelters that were little more than roofs made of tree leaves, and families huddled together in the hope that they would survive another day.

Food Aid Reach Out in Refugee Hiding Zones

“These people are hiding from a life they’ve never chosen, and the hardship they face is unimaginable,” Peter murmured, his voice heavy with sorrow.

Nelly nodded, her hand resting on her husband's. “I know,” she said softly. “The suffering here is like nothing we could ever fully understand. Yet, the faith these people have... it’s so powerful. They hold on to hope in the most unimaginable circumstances.”

"These people are hiding from a life they've never chosen, and the hardship they face is unimaginable"

When they arrived at one of the refugee camps, Peter and Nelly were immediately struck by the sight before them. Parents and children, refugees of the civil war in Myanmar, lived in the most basic conditions imaginable. Their homes were nothing more than structures made of thatch, surrounded by a sea of dirt and dust. The air was thick with the smell of smoke from fires used to cook what little food they could find. And yet, despite the squalor, there was something in the air that caught Peter’s attention.

It was the smiles on the faces of the children.

Smiles of Hope with Food Aid

| A Moment of Gratitude

The truck stopped, and the volunteers began to unload the food boxes. Peter and Nelly were assigned to a family who lived in a small hut made of palm leaves. As they handed the mother of the family the emergency food box, the woman’s eyes filled with tears. She clasped the box to her chest and, in a voice choked with emotion, she thanked God.

“Thank you, Lord Jesus,” she whispered softly. At first, Peter and Nelly didn’t understand the words. It was only when one of the translators stepped forward that they learned what she had said.

“Thank you, Lord Jesus,” the translator repeated, smiling warmly as she looked at Peter and Nelly.

Refugees Receiving Food Aid

Peter and Nelly exchanged a glance, their hearts swelling with emotion. The mother’s words echoed in their minds long after they had left the camp. “Thank you, Lord Jesus,”

“It’s so humbling,” Nelly said softly. “They’re living in such hardship, yet they’re so grateful. We have so much back home in the USA, and yet sometimes we complain. These families… they’ve lost everything, and yet they still thank God.”

Peter couldn’t contain his emotions. “I’ve seen a lot in my life,” he said, his voice cracking. “But this... seeing the children’s faces light up when they saw the food—it was like we were handing them the world.”

Food Aid Bringing Smiles to Refugees

The children had gathered around, their faces beaming as they peeked into the food boxes. There were rice meals, dehydrated vegetables, and vitamins—basic necessities for survival, yet to these children, it was more than just food. It was a glimpse of hope, a sign that someone cared, a reminder that they weren’t forgotten.

Peter and Nelly couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude themselves. Despite the poverty, despite the pain, the refugees had found a way to thank God for the smallest of blessings. And in doing so, they had shown Peter and Nelly the true meaning of faith.

Yet, here in the heart of Thailand, they were witnessing something far more profound- a faith in God that transcended their suffering.

Children Pray to Thank God for Food Aid

| A Deeply Emotional Awakening

As Peter and Nelly continued to distribute the food boxes, they were struck by the overwhelming contrast between the life they had in the United States and the life these refugees were enduring. Back home, they had the comforts of a warm house, a steady income, and more than enough food to feed their family. Yet, here in the heart of Thailand, they were witnessing something far more profound—a faith in God that transcended their suffering.

Peter reflected on the words of the mother who had thanked God. It wasn’t just the food she was thankful for; it was the love, the care, and the hope that came with it. It was a reminder that, no matter how dire the circumstances, God was always present. He had not abandoned these people.

As they finished the day’s distribution, Nelly spoke up. “Peter, I think we need to do more. This project... it feels so right. Helping these Christian families isn’t just about giving food. It’s about showing them that they’re not alone. It’s about making sure they know they’re loved.”

Peter nodded, deeply moved by his wife’s words. “I agree. I never imagined something as simple as a food box could bring so much hope. But it’s more than just food—it’s about building a community, a community of love and faith.”

That evening, as they sat together under the stars, Peter and Nelly made a decision. They would sign up for membership with the Avoda Foundation. They would commit to helping these families, not just through one-time donations, but through ongoing support. Their hearts were moved, and they knew that by joining the mission, they could be part of something greater—something that would change lives for the better.

Helping these families isn't just about giving food. It's about showing them that they're not alone.

| The Power of Faith and Food Aid

The journey Peter and Nelly experienced in Maesot was not just about providing food. It was about offering a lifeline to those who had lost everything. The food was a means of survival, but it was also a tangible reminder that God’s love never fails.

Peter and Nelly learned firsthand that the refugees in Thailand were not just victims of circumstance; they were survivors. They had lost their homes, their families, and their sense of security. But in the midst of their suffering, they had found something more important—faith.

Distributing Food Aid to Refugees

This experience changed Peter and Nelly in ways they could not have predicted. They returned home to the USA with a renewed sense of purpose. They had seen with their own eyes the impact of Avoda’s Emergency Nutrition program, and they knew that they had to do more. Their hearts had been touched by the refugees' resilience, their gratitude, and their unwavering faith.

As Christians, we are called to serve those in need. Jesus Himself said, “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in” (Matthew 25:35, NKJV). These words reminded Peter and Nelly of their mission—not just to give food, but to offer hope, love, and a sense of belonging to those who had been forgotten by the world…but we cannot do it alone

| Your Call to Action: Join the Mission

Peter and Nelly’s story is just one example of how food aid can transform lives. Every day, refugees just like the ones in Maesot are struggling to survive. They are hungry, they are displaced, and they are in need of not just food but love and care. The work of Avoda Foundation is critical in providing for these needs, but we cannot do it alone.

We invite you to join Peter and Nelly in their mission to bring hope to those who need it most. By signing up for membership with Avoda Foundation, you can become part of this incredible journey to feed the hungry, heal the broken, and spread the love of Christ. Your contribution will help provide meals for those who are starving, offer hope to the hopeless, and help build a community of faith that transcends borders.

Will you answer the call?

For just USD 10 per month, you can help provide a nutritious meal for a refugee. You can bring a smile to a child’s face, offer comfort to a mother, and help rebuild lives. Together, we can make a difference.

Click here to join Peter and Nelly in this life-changing mission. Let’s feed the hungry, restore the broken, and spread God’s love, one meal at a time.

A Miracle of Hope: How Food Aid Saves Lives and Souls

In the rugged landscapes of Myanmar, where civil war has ravaged the lives of millions, there are stories that will break your heart, yet fill you with hope. One such story is that of Joe, a young boy whose life was forever altered by a tragedy he could never have predicted. His story is not just about survival; it’s a testament to faith, hope, and the power of food aid.

Joe, a 14-year-old Burmese boy from a small, peaceful village, was living a simple life as a farmer with his family. He spent his days working the land, helping his parents, and playing with his friends. But in one instant, his world was shattered by the brutal conflict that has plagued his homeland for decades.

It started like any other day. Joe was out in the forest, gathering food for his family when he heard a deafening roar overhead. The sky split apart with the sound of a bomb dropping, and within seconds, the earth beneath his feet trembled. The village, once vibrant with life, was engulfed in flames. Joe rushed back home, only to find his entire family gone. The bomb had killed them all.

© Photo credit: Contributor / Myanmar

In the blink of an eye, Joe became an orphan, alone in a world that had turned upside down. Fear gripped his heart as he saw soldiers approaching the village, their footsteps heavy with impending doom. He knew that if he stayed, he too would fall victim to the violence. With no time to mourn his family, Joe ran, joining the other survivors in a desperate flight towards the border.

For days, Joe and the others trekked through forests, rivers, and mountains, always looking over their shoulders in fear of being caught. The journey was exhausting, filled with uncertainty, and as night fell, the darkness brought more dangers. They reached Thailand, but there was no peace there either. Joe hid, terrified that the Thai police would send him back to Myanmar, where certain death awaited him.

In the midst of this chaos, Joe did what he had been taught to do in moments of despair: he prayed. As a Christian, he knew that prayer could move mountains, and in his heart, he believed that God would hear his cry.

And then, as if in response to his prayers, a miracle happened.

The next morning, Joe saw a pickup truck approaching. It was driven by Burmese-speaking people who were preaching about salvation in Jesus Christ. These strangers, who were more like family to Joe than he could have ever imagined, offered him not just words of comfort but a tangible gift— food.

With tears in his eyes, Joe realized that the food was not just a meal; it was a lifeline. This food represented hope, compassion, and the love of Christ. For the first time in days, Joe felt a sense of security. The truck was filled with boxes of food, and along with it, an invitation to church. It was there, within the walls of a humble church, that Joe found not just food for his body, but for his soul.

The food aid program, which had been a simple act of generosity, became the answer to Joe’s prayers. It provided him with physical nourishment, but more importantly, it brought him into a community of believers who walked alongside him in his darkest hour. They offered him emotional support, prayers, and a sense of belonging.

Joe’s story is just one of many. Every day, thousands of refugees flee violence, starvation, and uncertainty, seeking safety in neighboring countries. For these refugees, food is not a luxury; it is a lifeline. It’s a means of survival, a way to rebuild their lives, and a reminder that there is hope, even in the most desperate of situations.

At Avoda Foundation, we are committed to providing this kind of hope through our Emergency Nutrition program. Our goal is not just to feed refugees but to transform their lives, bringing them not only physical nourishment but also spiritual healing. We believe that food for the body, soul, and spirit can make all the difference in a refugee’s journey.

Why Emergency Nutrition Matters

The plight of refugees, especially those fleeing the conflict in Myanmar, is heart-wrenching. These individuals have witnessed unimaginable horrors, and many have lost everything they once held dear. They are left with little more than the clothes on their backs and the hope that they might find safety and survival.

For many, the first step in rebuilding their lives is receiving food. When you’ve gone days without a proper meal, the simple act of receiving a hot, nutritious meal can bring a sense of peace and comfort. It’s not just about filling an empty stomach; it’s about restoring dignity and offering a glimmer of hope.

That’s where Avoda Foundation steps in. Our Emergency Nutrition program is specifically designed to meet the immediate needs of refugees. We provide easy-to-prepare, nutrient-packed meals that sustain the body and restore strength. We understand that nutrition is critical in times of crisis, and our food is carefully crafted to provide refugees with the energy they need to survive and rebuild.

Our meals are not just ordinary meals; they are specially designed to include key ingredients that are both nutritious and comforting. We use high-quality rice, mushrooms, chicken, herbs, and energy-boosting nutrients like taurine and turmeric to provide essential vitamins and minerals. These meals are easy to prepare, even in the most difficult circumstances, and they offer a sense of normalcy in a world turned upside down.

The Power of Community and Faith

But our mission goes beyond providing food. We believe that community and faith are just as essential for healing and recovery. That’s why, in addition to food distribution, we also offer spiritual support. Every food distribution effort is accompanied by prayers, counseling, and invitations to church services where refugees can find a sense of belonging and peace.

Joe’s story is a powerful reminder of how important it is to walk alongside refugees in their journey. When they receive food from us, they are not just receiving nourishment for their bodies—they are receiving a message of hope, faith, and love. The church becomes a sanctuary where they can find solace, strength, and new purpose.

Through our food aid efforts, we are able to create a bridge between physical survival and spiritual renewal. Refugees who once felt forgotten and abandoned are given the opportunity to experience God’s love in tangible ways. They are reminded that they are not alone, that there is a community of believers who care about their well-being and are willing to walk with them every step of the way.

How You Can Make a Difference

Joe’s story is just one example of how food aid can transform lives. But we need your help to continue this vital work. Every day, there are thousands more refugees who are in desperate need of food, shelter, and support. With your help, we can provide more meals, more comfort, and more hope to these vulnerable individuals.

By becoming a paid member of Avoda Foundation, you can directly support our Emergency Nutrition program. Your contribution, as small as it may seem, can make a significant impact. For just USD 10 per month, you can help provide meals to refugees who are struggling to survive. Your support will help us reach even more people in need, providing them with the physical and spiritual nourishment they require to rebuild their lives.

Together, We Can Make a Lasting Impact

As Christians, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, reaching out to those in need and offering love, support, and comfort. Jesus Himself said, “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in” (Matthew 25:35, NKJV). These words remind us that feeding the hungry and caring for the vulnerable is not just an act of kindness; it is a command from our Savior.

At Avoda Foundation, we take this calling seriously. Every meal we provide is an opportunity to serve Christ. Every refugee we help is a reflection of His love and compassion. By joining our mission, you are partnering with us in the work of restoring hope and healing to those who need it most.

We invite you to be a part of this incredible journey. By becoming a paid member of Avoda Foundation, you can help us continue providing food, faith, and community to refugees in need. Together, we can make a lasting impact and bring the love of Christ to those who need it most.

Thank you for considering supporting Avoda Foundation and our mission to feed refugees in need. With your help, we can continue to provide food for the body, soul, and spirit, and bring hope to those who need it most.
