Only app for productivity ⚡️

What is Raycast?

It’s the most amazing productivity app you’ll ever use. It can help you in following purposes:

Task automater

Launcher

Spotlight or Alfred alternative

Instant file search (you can even search inside your file!)

Script executor

Note taking

Simple or complex calculations

Window management (Spectacle alternative)

Clipboard saver

Code snippets manager

Scheduler

And you can continue this list for an hour. I don’t use the full power of the Raycast, yet.

Extensions?

You can build your own extensions using their API or just download existing ones from the Raycast Store.

Say “NO!“ to your boring tasks!

Raycast instantly executes your daily tasks. If you often search Google, Github or YouTube like me, you can assign “go” to Google, “gi” to Github, “y” to YouTube searches.

“Raycast, push my code to GitHub, then turn off my computer!“

It might take time to get used to your keyboard shortcuts. (I also forget mine.) But after 1-2 weeks, you’ll start to automate your GitHub pushes, app launches.

Yeah, it’s overwhelming in the beginning. But it does the job. Let’s save our time for more creative work than manually opening-closing your apps every single day.

💻 OS support: Mac only.
🔗 Link: https://www.raycast.com

Streaks

Competition is great. And the most competent competitor you’ll ever find is you. Streak tracking helps you to build new habits and compete with yourself in a healthy way.

As usual, let’s see why streak tracking is important, how we can use it, and the tools to apply.

🧩 “ARM” loop

You take the action. This action leads you to achieve some results. And those results generates the new motivation which indeed pushes you to take the further actions.
Streak tracking is great way of creating that beautiful loop.

🧩 “Day 1” principle

Let’s say, you’ve been extremely productive throughout the day. In the next morning, you have no choice but to restart all over again. Nobody even notices it. In streak tracking, you don’t lose your achievements. They always stay there, you can be proud of them. And at the same time, you still know you have to beat the past version of yourself. At least, keep up with it.

🧩 Compound effect

Every code, every git push, every project adds up. Even the barely noticeable changes, can become the huge rewards you can reap later on.

🧩 Self-fulfilling prophecy

This works like the first “ARM” loop effect. You take some action. And this action creates some results which in turn brings some belief about your identity and expectations about your future self. And the next morning, you (the future version of you) takes the action based on those expectations. Great, right?

🎯 How should I start streak-tracking?

Start from the easiest habit you can do today. Set it and keep following it for the rest of the year. Following examples are taken from my own streak tracker:

⁃ Code for 1 minute*
⁃ Push 1 commit to GitHub.
⁃ Automate 1 thing.
⁃ Do 1 Push up.
⁃ Drink a glass of water in the morning.
⁃ No coffee and soda at work.
⁃ Listen 1 Blink podcast.

1 Smile to anyone.

Plot twist: I often end up coding for 8-10 hours a day. ;)

📱 App recommendations?

For streak tracking, “HabitMinder” is the best choice out there. It’s super intuitive and simple.
For monitoring your GitHub commits, “Contributions” app is the perfect one to try.

👉 Recap:

The best way to build any habit is tracking your daily streaks.

Is Web 3.0 legit? 🤔

Let’s start from the beginning of the Web itself.

🐣 Web 1.0 - static web.

This was the earliest stage of the internet. It contained limited information where no algorithms used to find relevant content.

🐔 Web 2.0 - social web.

It solved the Web 1.0 drawbacks, and give the user opportunity to create and edit the content. Which also lead to the bigger problem, where Evil corps (MANGA) took advantage of it and breached the user’s private informations.

🦄 Web 3.0 - decentralized web.

It solves the privacy issues and is expected to be more interactive than Web 2.0. It’s not stable yet but has the potential to take off.

What is included in Web 3.0? 🤔

🌐 Semantic Web

It already exists. If you listen to Lewis Capaldi or Sam Smith on Spotify, you’ll probably going to see Dermot Kennedy or James Bay on your list the next morning. Their songs categorized as Soft Pop hits and turned into machine readable data. This is how semantic web works.

🤖 Machine Learning

The way semantic web organized is going to be handled by AI itself. Plus, Web 3.0 content will be less biased and junk-free. You won’t be able to increase page rank or buy reviews for a few bucks. Unrelated or biased content will be diminished by bots. This is the most beneficial and amazing part for everyone of us.

🪐 Metaverse

It gives the user access to everything without the need to connect to smartphones or computers. Your Instagram profile pic turns into a virtual metaverse profile pic and represents you. You can sign documents, attend meetings like before but in a new 3D virtual environment. Yes, it will be a huuuge mess. Social debates about virtual life and real life will be out there for a long time. You can’t stop the progress, can you?

🧩 Blockchain and smart contracts

This is legit. The new web can be almost unhackable and privacy focused. You’ll still see the relevant cat videos but your data always stays in your pocket. Your medical records, passport or ID cards will be included in the blockchain which provides the real safety and control. Cryptocurrency, NFT, DeFi also part of that.

What skills will pay my bills? 🤔

Please, don’t. I know what you’re thinking at this point. You don’t have to stop whatever you’re good at and start learning Solidity, Python, Unity or so on. Trends come and go. Php never died. There are people who still get paid for Matlab. Kotlin hasn’t replaced Java yet.

You should just consider learning those Web 3.0 technologies in your free time. I don’t like audacious goals, I like steady and long lasting small changes. If you’re good at any of the programming language, then transition won’t be a problem. 😉

👉 Recap:

Web 3.0 is legit. Get prepared for the next big thing.

Underrated things amongst developers

Here is the list of common senses that most developers neglect and the reason you should avoid them.

Coffee ☕️

It’s not a solution for tiredness or high energy. Natural energy and highs are the ones you should care about. Coffee just delays your physical exhaustion. The best choice of beverage for your body is water. You always knew that.

Negotiation 🤝

The first rule of negotiation:
Never tell them the price. Whoever tells it first, loses.
You are always worth more than you think you deserve. For company to exist, employees have to generate more wealth than their monthly income. Because that’s how it works. Know your market price. And become an active negotiator. If you don’t ask for more, employer or client won’t rise the price by their will.

Financial health💰

Be ready for everything. Life is a game. And the best players plan their several next moves ahead. Yes, money can’t solve all your problems. But it solves all of your money problems. Trust me, without financial health you’ll be jeopardizing your entire career and life.

Human Nature 👥

The best hackers are the masters of human psychology and motivations. They know what triggers you, makes you nervous, calm, distracted, compulsive. They don’t hack computers, they hack humans. They know how the game theory works and gets the best possible outcome because of that. If you’re not playing the game, then you’re being played. Learn how to play in life.

I’ll leave “The Laws of Human Nature” by Robert Greene for you to read.

Listening 🦻

Yes, we don’t listen enough. Listen to your clients’ needs. What they want, why the certain feature is what they care about, are they really clients in your niche, can they pay what you ask for (!), how long they want to work with you, do they really understand you? You don’t have to prove your skills, you have to ASK what they want and LISTEN to them.

Documentation 📜

Always keep in mind: If someone is struggling to implement some feature in certain language, then they haven’t read the documentation yet. StackOverflow is great. YouTube is great. But the documentation is pure gold. It’s the only source for both of them.

Spiritual health 🧘🏻‍♂️

Coding is not always a fun game. It’s not just about typing the keyboard. Toxic coworkers, dumb clients, scammers, broken internet, unpaid subscriptions, annoying neighbors, noisy city, political problems are always part of your life. You can’t control everything. Focus on what you can control. Your mind, your internal progress, your thoughts. Study how stoics view the world. And you’ll be far ahead than other developers in the game.

👉 Recap:

If you can’t focus on your coding, then you might be neglecting some common senses.

@seniortips
