A Green Status Check Doesn't Always Mean Your API Is Healthy 🟢

Let me ask you something.

Have you ever checked an API, seen a
200 OK
, and assumed everything was fine—only to discover later that users were still experiencing problems?

Maybe the response took 4 seconds instead of 200 milliseconds. Maybe the API returned a successful status code but the wrong data. Or maybe one of its dependencies was failing silently.

I've been thinking about these problems while building Chroniqs.

The part of API monitoring we don't talk about enough

Most developers know how to check whether an endpoint is online. The harder question is: Is it actually behaving the way it should?

Imagine you're running a payment API.

The endpoint is reachable. ✅

The response status is
200 OK
. ✅

The response takes 5 seconds. ❌

Your customer is staring at a loading screen. ❌

From a basic uptime check, everything might look green. From the customer's perspective, something is clearly wrong.

That's why I believe useful monitoring needs to give developers more context—not just another green indicator on a dashboard.

 Why I'm building Chroniqs

Chroniqs is my attempt to make website and API monitoring more useful and easier to understand.

The idea is straightforward: monitor endpoints, track response times, detect downtime, receive alerts, and review incident history in one place.

But I don't want the experience to stop at “Something went wrong.”

I'd like developers to have a clearer picture of when an issue happened, how the service was behaving, and where they might begin investigating.

I'm also exploring AI-assisted anomaly detection and proactive insights to help identify unusual patterns before they turn into bigger problems. Those capabilities are part of the direction I'm working toward, not features I'm claiming are already available.

There's still plenty to build, test, and improve.

Now, I'd love your input 👇

If you maintain APIs or run a SaaS product, I'm curious about your experience.

1. What do you currently use to monitor your APIs?

2. What's more frustrating: discovering an outage late, investigating its root cause, or identifying performance problems before they become incidents?

3. What is one feature you wish your current monitoring tool handled better?

I'm not asking because I think one tool can solve every monitoring problem. I'm asking because feedback from people who deal with these issues every day is far more useful than building features based on assumptions.

If you're curious about the project, you can check it out here:

I'm building Chroniqs, and I'd genuinely appreciate hearing what you think—even if you disagree with the approach.

Let's talk APIs. 🚀
