As a first-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) student, I am still beginning my journey in the world of programming. Learning a programming language is a new experience for me, and it has taught me that programming requires patience, practice, and logical thinking.

When I first started learning C++, I realized that it was not as easy as I expected. There were many new words, symbols, and rules that I needed to understand. However, I also found it interesting because I could give instructions to a computer and make it perform specific tasks.

 My First Experience with C++

At first, understanding the syntax of C++ was challenging. Even a small mistake, such as forgetting a semicolon, could cause an error in the program. Sometimes, I needed to read the code several times before I could understand what it was doing.

I learned that programming is not just about typing code. It is also about understanding how instructions work together to solve a problem. Although it can be confusing at first, every new concept gives me an opportunity to improve.

 What I Have Learned So Far

As a beginner, I am learning several important programming concepts:

Variable: These store information, such as numbers and words.

Data Types : These describe the kind of information a variable can hold.

Input and Output: These allow a program to receive information and display results.

Conditional statements : These allow a program to make decisions.

Loops: These repeat instructions when needed.

I am also learning that mistakes are a normal part of programming. When a program does not work, I need to check the code, read the error message, and find the possible cause. This process helps me understand the lesson better.

 My First Simple C++ Program

One common example for beginners is the "Hello, World!" program. It demonstrates how to display a simple message on the screen.

Here is an example:

 include

using namespace std;

int main() {
cout << "Hello, World!" << endl;
return 0;
}

The "#include " line allows the program to use input and output features. The "main()" function is where the program begins. The "cout" statement displays the message, while "return 0;" indicates that the program has finished successfully.

This example may look simple, but it helps beginners understand the basic structure of a C++ program.

 Challenges I May Face as a Beginner

One challenge in learning programming is understanding the logic behind a problem. Sometimes, I may know the result I want, but I still need to figure out the correct instructions to achieve it.

Another challenge is fixing errors. It can be frustrating when the code does not work, especially when I do not immediately understand the problem. However, I am learning that errors can help me identify what I need to improve.

I also understand that reading lessons alone is not enough. I need to practice writing and testing code so I can apply what I have learned.

 My Plans for Improvement

As a first-year BSCS student, I know that I still have many things to learn. I want to improve my skills step by step instead of expecting myself to understand everything immediately.

 Here are some things I plan to do:

Practice writing simple programs regularly.

Review the lessons discussed in class.

Learn how to understand and fix errors.

Ask questions when I do not understand a topic.

Explorw more programming concepts after learning the basics.

Try creating small projects to apply my knowledge.

I believe that consistent practice will help me become more confident and prepared for more advanced topics in computer science.

 Final Thoughts

My first impressions of learning a programming language have taught me that programming is a process of learning, practicing, and improving. It is normal to feel confused when starting something new, but I should not let that stop me from learning.

I do not expect to become an expert immediately. Instead, I want to focus on understanding one concept at a time and learning from my mistakes. Every small improvement can help me move closer to my goals.

My journey in computer science is only beginning, and I am excited to discover what I can create in the future. I hope to use the skills I gain to build useful programs and solve real-world problems.

To my fellow beginners, do not be afraid to make mistakes. Keep practicing, stay curious, and remember that every experienced programmer was once a beginner, too.

Same beginner, bigger dreams. 🚀
