      <title>Oligosaccharides from Classic Oriental Herbal Medicines: An assessment of Substance Range as well as Biological Routines.</title>

 Inferior turbinate hypertrophy (ITH) is a common condition causing nasal obstruction. This study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) laser and diode laser in the reduction of the turbinate size. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This randomized controlled trial included 209 patients with ITH. Pre-operative symptoms were assessed based on the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score. Diagnostic nasal endoscopy was done to rule out other nasal sinuses. Nasal mucociliary clearance was measured by saccharin transit time (STT). Postoperatively, the NOSE score, STT and complications were assessed at days one and two, at one week, one month and three months. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Of the 209 patients analyzed at day one, the median NOSE score was 50 in the diode group and 40 in the KTP group, and at three months, 15 in the diode group and five in the KTP group. KTP laser showed a 93 per cent improvement in the NOSE score as compared to 77 per cent improvement shown by diode laser group. Among the intra-operative complations in early post-operative period. Real-time RT-PCR was used for screening of retrospectively collected human serum samples (n=1020) with acute febrile illness during 2014-2017. Simultaneously, an in-house anti-CQV swine and human IgG ELISAs were also developed to detect anti-CQV IgG antibody. Human serum samples (n=883) with post-red as a proactive measure for understanding the prevalence of this neglected tropical virus. &lt;br&gt;
Anti-CQV IgG antibody positivity in human serum samples tested and the replication capability of CQV in mosquitoes indicated a possible disease causing potential of CQV in Indian scenario. Screening of more human and swine serum samples using these assays is required as a proactive measure for understanding the prevalence of this neglected tropical virus. &lt;br&gt;
 The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) and the ICMR-National Institute of Medical Statistics, the nodal agency for conducting HIV estimations in India, have been generating HIV estimates regularly since 2003. The objective of this study was to describe India's biennial HIV estimation 2017 process, data inputs, tool, methodology and epidemiological assumptions used to generate the HIV estimates and trends of key indicators for 2010-2017 at national and State/Union Territory levels. &lt;/p&gt;

 Coronary artery disease (CAD), a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide has multifactorial origin. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) has complex mechanical and thermogenic functions and paracrine actions via various cytokines released by it, which can have both pro- and anti-inflammatory actions on myocardium and adjacent coronaries. The alteration of EAT gene expression in CAD is speculated, but poorly understood. This study was undertaken to find out the difference in gene expression of epicardial fat in CAD and non-CAD patients. &lt;/p&gt;

Various MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding)/agreements of ICMR with international partners bring together the researchers and resources towards progression through shared research and innovation agenda. Growing collaboration during recent years is reflected through increased number of internationally funded/technically coordinated research projects in health research. However, for any international collaborative research study to be undertaken in India, certain regulatory requirements are to be fulfilled. In this study, we investigated the presence of AiV and HBoV in aquatic, sludge, sediment matrices collected from Abu-Rawash wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), El-Rahawy drain, Rosetta branch of the River Nile in Egypt by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR). AiV RNA was detected in 16.6% (2/12), 8.3% (1/12), 8.3% (1/12), 22% (16/72), 12.5% (3/24), 4% (1/24), and 0/24 (0%) of untreated raw sewage, treated sewage, sewage sludge, drainage water, drain sediment, river water, and river sediment, respectively. On the other hand, HBoV DNA was detected in 41.6% (5/12), 25% (3/12), 16.6% (2/12), 48.6% (35/72), 29% (7/24), 3/24 (12.5%), 4% (1/24) of untreated raw sewage, treated raw sewage, sewage sludge, drainage water, drain sediment, river water, and river sediment, respectively. This study provides data on the presence of these viruses in various types of water samples that are valuable to environmental risk assessment. In addition, the current study demonstrates the importance of environmental monitoring as an additional tool to investigate the epidemiology of AiV and HBoV circulating in a given community.Fecal contamination is one of the factors causing deterioration of Laguna Lake. Although total coliform levels are constantly monitored, no protocol is in place to identify their origin. This can be addressed using the library-dependent microbial source tracking (MST) method, repetitive element sequence-based polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) fingerprinting. Serving as a prerequisite in developing the host-origin library, we assessed the discriminatory power of three fingerprinting primers, namely BOX-A1R, (GTG)5, and REP1R-1/2-1. Fingerprint profiles were obtained from 290 thermotolerant Escherichia coli isolated from sewage waters and fecal samples of cows, chickens, and pigs from regions surrounding the lake. Band patterns were converted into binary profiles and were classified using the discriminant analysis of principal components. Results show that (1) REP1R-1/2-1 has a low genotyping success rate and information content; (2) increasing the library size led to more precise estimates of library accuracy; and (3) combining fingerprint profiles from BOX-A1R and (GTG)5 revealed the best discrimination (average rate of correct classification (ARCC) = 0.82 ± 0.06) in a two-way categorical split; while (4) no significant difference was found between the combined profiles (0.74 ± 0.15) and using solely BOX-A1R (0.76 ± 0.09) in a four-way split. Testing the library by identifying known isolates from a separate dataset has shown that a two-way classification performed better (ARCC = 0.66) than a four-way split (ARCC = 0.29). The library can be developed further by adding more representative isolates per host source. Nevertheless, our results have shown that combining profiles from BOX-A1R and (GTG)5 is recommended in developing the MST library for Laguna Lake.Human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genetic markers are abundant in sewage and highly human-specific, suggesting a great potential for the environmental application as human fecal pollution indicators. Limited data are available on the occurrence and co-occurrence of human mtDNA with fecal bacterial markers in surface waters, and how the abundance of these markers is influenced by rain events. A 1-year sampling study was conducted in a suburban watershed impacted by human sewage contamination to evaluate the performance of a human mtDNA-based marker along with the bacterial genetic markers for human-associated Bacteroidales (BacHum and HF183) and Escherichia coli. check details Additionally, the human mtDNA-based assay was correlated with rain events and other markers. The mtDNA marker was detected in 92% of samples (n = 140) with a mean concentration of 2.96 log10 copies/100 ml throughout the study period. Human mtDNA was detected with greater abundance than human-associated Bacteroidales that could be attributed to differences in the decay of these markers in the environment. The abundance of all markers was positively correlated with rain events, and human mtDNA abundance was significantly correlated with various bacterial markers. In general, these results should support future risk assessment for impacted watersheds, particularly those affected by human fecal pollution, by evaluating the performance of these markers during rain events.Hospitals' effluents contain a considerable amount of chemicals. Considering the significant volume of wastewater discharged by hospitals, the presence of these chemicals represents a real threat to the environment and human health. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the in vivo and in vitro genotoxicities of three wastewater effluents collected from Tunisian hospitals. The liver of Swiss albino male mice, previously treated with different doses of the hospital wastewaters, was used as a model to detect DNA fragmentation. Our results showed all the hospital effluents caused significant qualitative and quantitative hazards in hepatic DNA. The wastewater collected from Sfax hospital exhibited the highest genotoxic effect, which may be explained by the presence in this effluent of some toxic micropolluants. There was a significant increase in genotoxicity, proportionally to the concentration of effluent. However, the vitotox assay did not show any significant genotoxicity on Salmonella typhimurium TA104 in the presence or absence of microsomal fraction S9. The ratio gentox/cytox was lower than the threshold 1.5.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Exposure to air pollution has been linked to elevated blood pressure (BP) and hypertension, but most research has focused on short-term (hours, days, or months) exposures at relatively low concentrations. We examined the associations between long-term (3-year average) concentrations of outdoor PM2.5 and household air pollution (HAP) from cooking with solid fuels with BP and hypertension in the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study. Outdoor PM2.5 exposures were estimated at year of enrollment for 137,809 adults aged 35-70 years from 640 urban and rural communities in 21 countries using satellite and ground-based methods. Primary use of solid fuel for cooking was used as an indicator of HAP exposure, with analyses restricted to rural participants (n = 43,313) in 27 study centers in 10 countries. BP was measured following a standardized procedure and associations with air pollution examined with mixed-effect regression models, after adjustment for a comprehensive set of potential confounding factCI -0.75, -0.18) BP. CPI1612 In this large international multi-center study, chronic exposures to outdoor PM2.5 was associated with increased BP and hypertension while there were small inverse associations with HAP. Benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BUVSs) are widely used additives in industrial materials and personal care products that protect products from ultraviolet damage. Due to their high production volume and potential to bioaccumulate, BUVSs are an environmental pollutant of concern. In this study, juvenile zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to 4 BUVSs (UV-234, UV-326, UV-329, and UV-P) at 10 and 100 μg/L for 28 d. BUVSs induced hepatic vacuolization and nuclei pyknosis in the liver following 100 μg/L UV-234 and UV-329 exposure. Transcriptomic analysis in the liver uncovered pathways related to inflammation that were affected by BUVSs. Based upon these data, we measured the expression levels of 9 genes involved in AHR-IL17/IL22 pathway in zebrafish larvae exposed to each BUVSs at one dose of either 10 or 100 μg/L for 6 days in a second set experiment. Transcript levels of interleukins il17a and il22 were decreased, while il6 mRNA was increased with exposure to UV-234, UV-329, and UV-P. No change to targeted transcripts was observed with UV-326 treatments. Moreover, cyp1a1 and ahr2 levels were increased in larvae treated with 100 μg/L UV-329 or UV-P. Consistent with expression data, protein abundance of IL22 was decreased by 29% with exposure to 100 μg/L UV-P. Taken together, these results demonstrate that exposure to different benzotriazole congeners may be associated with immunotoxicity in zebrafish through the AHR-IL17/IL22 pathway, and this may be associated with hepatic damage with prolonged exposures. This study provides new insight into unique pathways perturbed by specific BUVSs congeners. Marine animals often accumulate various harmful substances through the foods they ingest. The bioaccumulation levels of these harmful substances are affected by the degrees of pollution in the food and of biomagnification; however, which of these sources is more important is not well-investigated for mercury (Hg) bioaccumulation. Here we addressed this issue in fishes that inhabit the waters around Minamata Bay, located off the west coast of Kyushu Island in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The total Hg concentration (hereafter [THg]) and carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios (δ13C and δ15N) were analyzed in the muscle tissue of 10 fish species, of which more than five individuals were caught by gillnet. Except one species, each was separated into two trophic groups with respective lower and higher δ13C values ranging from -17‰ to -16‰ and -15‰ to -14‰, which suggested that the fishes depended more on either phytoplankton- and microphytobenthos-derived foods (i.e., pelagic and benthic trophic pathways), respectively. Linear mixed effects models showed that the Hg levels were significantly associated with both δ15N and the differences in the trophic groups. [THg] increased with δ15N (i.e., indicative of higher trophic levels), but the slopes did not differ between the two trophic groups. [THg] was significantly higher in the group with higher δ13C values than in those with lower δ13C values. The effect size from marginal R squared (R2) values showed that the variation in [THg] was strongly ascribed to the trophic group difference rather than δ15N. These results suggest that the substantial Hg bioaccumulation in the fishes of Minamata Bay is mainly an effect of ingesting the microphytobenthos-derived foods that contain Hg, and that the subsequent biomagnification is secondary. INTRODUCTION In 2017, Ohio had the second highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the United States. Current opioid related epidemiologic literature has begun to uncover the environmental level influences on the opioid epidemic and how the end results may ultimately manifest over space and time. This work is still nascent however, with most clustering research conducted at a spatial unit such as county level, which (1) can obscure differences between urban and rural communities, (2) does not consider dynamics that cross county lines, and (3) is difficult to interpret directly into strategic and localized intervention efforts. We address this gap by describing, at the Census block level, the spatial-temporal clustering of opioid related events in rural Ohio. METHODS We use the outcome of the administration of naloxone emergency medical service (EMS) calls in rural Ohio Census blocks during 2010-16 in a Poisson model of spatial scan statistics. RESULTS We found that naloxone event clustering in rural Ohio in the recent decade was widely dispersed over time and space, with clusters that average 17 times the risk of having an event compared to areas outside the cluster. Many of the larger spatial clusters crossed administrative boundaries (i.e., county lines) suggesting that opioid misuse may be less responsive to county level policies than to other factors. DISCUSSION Timely identification of localized overdose event clustering can guide affected communities toward rapid interventions aimed at minimizing the morbidity and mortality resulting from contagious opioid misuse.&lt;a href="https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cpi-1612.html" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;CPI1612&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

OBJECTIVE To synthesize nursing practices related to fetal therapy (intervention to correct or treat a fetal anomaly). DATA SOURCES We searched electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, OvidSP, and CINAHL, for all relevant published work. selleck We identified additional resources through discussion with experts in the field, hand searches of relevant resources, and examination of the reference lists of articles in our search results. STUDY SELECTION Any published literature about fetal therapy in which nursing practices were discussed by nurses. DATA EXTRACTION We used Whittemore and Knafl's methodology to guide this integrative review (2005). We completed data extraction using an analytic review template organized to compare results to Kim's (2015) theoretical framework for nursing practice. DATA SYNTHESIS We used qualitative techniques described by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014) to code and thematically interpret the data. Nurses described their contributions to the establishment of fetal therapy programs through the development of entirely new technical and caring skills and their work in relation to care quality, clinician education, ethics, research, and health policy. Data were synthesized under three philosophies of nursing practice therapy, care, and professional work. CONCLUSION Nurses have made important contributions to the evolving practice of fetal therapy, a nuanced practice that is critical to the development and provision of comprehensive patient- and family-centered care. Clinical implications of this review include practical recommendations for enhanced support of nursing practice in fetal therapy, which includes the provision of reliable forums to learn and share feedback about nursing practice in this field. Future work should focus on increasing understanding and visibility of nursing in fetal therapy through interdisciplinary evidence-based practice development. Over the past decade, there has been a groundswell of research interest in computer-based methods for objectively quantifying fibrotic lung disease on high resolution CT of the chest. In the past 5 years, the arrival of deep learning-based image analysis has created exciting new opportunities for enhancing the understanding of, and the ability to interpret, fibrotic lung disease on CT. Specific unsolved problems for which computer-based imaging analysis might provide solutions include the development of reliable methods for assisting with diagnosis, detecting early disease, and predicting disease behaviour using baseline imaging data. However, to harness this technology, technical and societal challenges must be overcome. Large CT datasets will be needed to power the training of deep learning algorithms. Open science research and collaboration between academia and industry must be encouraged. Prospective clinical utility studies will be needed to test computer algorithm performance in real-world clinical settings and demonstrate patient benefit over current best practice. Finally, ethical standards, which ensure patient confidentiality and mitigate against biases in training datasets, that can be encoded in machine-learning systems will be needed as well as bespoke data governance and accountability frameworks to encourage buy-in from health-care professionals, patients, and the public. BACKGROUND Gefapixant is a P2X3 receptor antagonist that has shown promise for the treatment of refractory and unexplained chronic cough. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of gefapixant compared with placebo after 12 weeks of treatment for refractory chronic cough or unexplained chronic cough. METHODS We did a 12-week, phase 2b, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in patients with refractory chronic cough or unexplained chronic cough aged 18-80 years who were recruited from 44 primarily outpatient pulmonologist or allergist sites in the UK and the USA. Eligible patients had refractory or unexplained chronic cough lasting 1 year or longer, no radiographic chest abnormality, and 40 mm or more on a 100-mm cough severity visual analogue scale at enrolment. Patients were randomly assigned to receive placebo or one of three doses (7·5 mg, 20 mg, or 50 mg) of oral gefapixant twice daily, every day, for 84 days; visits to investigative sites were on days 1, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84, and 85. coughs per h (3·7) with 7·5 mg, 12·0 coughs per h (4·2) with 20 mg, and 11·3 coughs per h (2·8) with 50 mg gefapixant. Estimated percentage change relative to placebo was -22·0% (-41·8 to 4·6; p=0·097) with 7·5 mg, -22·2% (-42·0 to 4·3; p=0·093) with 20 mg, and -37·0% (95% CI -53·3 to -14·9; p=0·0027) with 50 mg gefapixant. Dysgeusia was the most common adverse event, occurring in three (5%) patients given placebo, six (10%) given 7·5 mg gefapixant, 21 (33%) given 20 mg gefapixant, and 30 (48%) given 50 mg gefapixant. INTERPRETATION Targeting purinergic receptor P2X3 with gefapixant at a dose of 50 mg twice daily significantly reduced cough frequency in patients with refractory chronic cough or unexplained chronic cough after 12 weeks of treatment compared with placebo. Further development of gefapixant is warranted for the treatment of chronic cough. They sense and respond to the surrounding activity by elevating their intracellular calcium (Ca2+ ) levels. These astrocytic Ca2+ elevations emerge from different sources and display complex spatio-temporal properties. Ca2+ elevations are spatially distributed in global (soma and main processes) and/or focal regions (microdomains). The inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptor type 2 knockout (IP3 R2 KO) mouse model lacks global Ca2+ elevations in astrocytes and it has been used by different laboratories. However, the constitutive deletion of IP3 R2 during development may trigger compensating phenotypes, which could bias the results of experiments using developing or adult mice. To address this issue, we performed a detailed neurodevelopmental evaluation of male and female IP3 R2 KO mice, during the first 21 days of life, as well as an evaluation of motor function, strength and neurological reflexes in adult mice. Our results show that male and female IP3 R2 KO mice display a normal acquisition of developmental milestones, as compared with wild-type (WT) mice. We also show that that IP3R2 KO mice display normal motor coordination, strength and neurological reflexes in adulthood. To exclude a potential compensatory overexpression of other IP3Rs, we quantified the relative mRNA levels of all 3 subtypes, in brain tissue. A method was established through UHPLC with a photo-diode array (UHPLC-PDA) to simultaneously determine the anti-complement and antitussive activity of five compounds in K. indica combining chemical identification with chemometrics for the discrimination and quality assessment of K. indica. Also, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid and 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid exhibited significantly higher anti-complementary activity than the other three compounds. The quantitative data were further analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). Mechanochemistry allowed for coupling of phosphoramidite monomers to the 5'-hydroxyl group of nucleosides, iodine/water oxidation of the resulting phosphite triester linkage, and removal of the 5'-dimethoxytrityl (DMTr) protecting group in situ in good yields (up to 60% over three steps) to produce DNA dimers in a one-pot manner. H-phosphonate chemistry under milling conditions enabled coupling and protection of the H-phosphonate linkage, as well as removal of the 5'-DMTr protecting group in situ, enabling a one-pot process with good yields (up to 65% over three steps, or ca. 87% per step). To resolve this conflict, many approaches are proposed, for instance, by means of adjustment of the projected virtual image to coincide with the surroundings, called image registration, which is more often referred to as varifocal function. In this paper, a varifocal AR system is demonstrated by adopting electrically tunable liquid crystal (LC) plane-parallel plates to solve VAC problem. The LC plates provide electrically tunable optical paths when the directors of LC molecules are re-orientated with applied voltages, which leads to a corresponding change of light speed for an extraordinary wave. To provide a sufficient tunable optical path, three pieces of multiple-layered LC structures are used with the total thickness of the active LC layers (∼510 μm). In experiments, the projected virtual image can be adjusted from 1.4 m to 2.1 m away from the AR system, while the thickness of LC plane-parallel plates are only less than 3 mm without any mechanical moving part. When light propagates in the uniaxial LC layers, the wave vector and the Poynting vector are different. The longitudinal displacement of the image plane is determined by Poynting vectors rather than wave vectors. As a result, the analysis of the AR system should be based on Poynting vectors during geometrical optical analysis. Surprisingly, the tunable range of the longitudinal displacement of Poynting vectors is 2-fold larger than the tunable range of the wave vectors. Moreover, the virtual image shifts in opposite directions with respect to the Poynting vectors and wave vectors. The proposed AR system is not only simple but also thin, and it exhibits a large clear aperture. The investigation here paves the way to a simple solution of the VAC problem for augmented reality systems.We describe the guided acoustic-wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS) phase noise characteristics in multi-core fibers (MCFs) used for a digital coherent optical fiber transmission both experimentally and analytically. We first describe the GAWBS phase noise in an uncoupled four-core fiber with a 125 µm cladding and compare the phase noise spectrum with that of a standard single-mode fiber (SSMF). We found that, unlike SSMF where the R0,m mode is dominant, off-center cores in MCF are affected by higher-order TRn,m modes. We then report measurement results for GAWBS phase noise in a 19-core fiber with a 240 µm cladding. The results indicate that the cores exhibit different spectral profiles depending on their distance from the center of the fiber, but the amount of phase noise generated in each core is almost identical. These results provide a useful insight into the space division multiplexing transmission impairments in digital coherent transmissions using MCF.Here, we present the design and simulation of an ultrawide-bandwidth on-chip spectrometer that can be used in various applications, e.g. spectral tissue sensing. It covers 1200 nm wavelength range (400 nm-1600 nm) with 2 nm spectral resolution. The overall design size is only 3 × 3 cm2. The ultra-wide spectral range is made possible by using novel on-chip band-pass filters for the coarse wavelength division. The fine resolution is provided by the arrayed waveguide gratings. Furthermore, as the transmitted wavefront of a glass plate can be better and more precisely controlled than the diffraction wavefront of a large grating, we propose glass plates with designed transmitted wavefront to compensate for the wavefront distortion introduced by the second and third gratings, and other in-house optics, such as the beam splitter. This simple and economical method can compensate for the space-time distortion in the compressor, and thus improve focal intensity, which otherwise cannot be compensated by a deformable mirror outside the compressor. In this study, a method of matching the same underwater object in acoustic and optical images was designed, consisting of two steps. First, an enhancement step is used to enhance the images and ensure the accuracy of the matching results based on iterative processing and estimate similarity. The acoustic and optical images are first pre-processed with the aim of eliminating the influence of contrast degradation, contour blur, and image noise. A method for image enhancement was designed based on iterative processing. In addition, a new similarity estimation method for acoustic and optical images is also proposed to provide the enhancement effect. Second, a matching step is used to accurately find the corresponding object in the acoustic images that appears in the underwater optical images. In the matching process, a correlation filter is applied to determine the correlation for matching between images. Due to the differences of angle and imaging principle between underwater optical and acoustic images, there may be major differences of size between two images of the same object. In order to eliminate the effect of these differences, we introduce the Gaussian scale-space, which is fused with multi-scale detection to determine the matching results. Therefore, the algorithm is insensitive to scale differences. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed method in matching acoustic and optical images.Background Heavy drug users was a global consensus high-risk population of HIV infection. However, the specific impact of drug on HIV infection has not yet been established. Depressants and stimulants were most widely used drugs in mainland China, and mix use of the two drugs was also serious. We assessed the HIV infection rate and trends in heavy drug users by analyzing data from the National Dynamic Management and Control Database for Drug Users (NDMCDDU). Methods All heavy drug users with HIV test results in NDMCDDU from 2008 to 2016 were grouped into depressants only group (DOG), stimulants only group (SOG), and both depressants and stimulants group (DSG). We used joinpoint regression to examine trends of HIV infection rates. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine factors related to HIV infection. Results A total of 466,033 heavy drug users with 9522 cases of HIV infection were included in this analysis. OH groups of h-BN-OH and the ones presented on the surface of cellulose fibers interacted via hydrogen bonding. Both spectroscopic (FT-IR, XRD) and microscopic (TEM, SEM, and atomic force microscopy (AFM)) methods results proved the successful functionalization of the cellulose fibers with the nanomaterial. Modified cellulose fibers were used to prepare paper sheets samples with different concentrations of the nanomaterial (1 wt %, 2 wt %, and 3 wt %). All the samples were tested for the antibacterial properties via the colony forming unit method and exhibited good performance against both Gram-negative (E. coli) and Gram-positive (S. epidermidis) model bacteria. Additionally, the influence of the volume of working bacterial suspension on the antibacterial efficiency of the obtained materials was examined. The results showed significantly better antibacterial performance when the volume of bacterial suspension was reduced. Mechanical properties of the paper samples with and without nanofiller were also characterized. Tensile strength, tearing strength, and bursting strength of the paper samples containing only 2 wt % of the nanofiller were improved by 60%, 61%, and 118% in comparison to the control paper samples, respectively. Furthermore, the nanofiller improved the thermal properties of the composite paper-the heat release rate decreased by up to 11.6%.
