This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady

 What I Built

I built LazyReply AI 🦥, a simple AI-powered web application that generates short, polite replies to messages.

Sometimes, writing replies to everyday messages takes unnecessary time. LazyReply AI helps users save that effort by suggesting a reply with just one click.

The project follows the “Slow and Steady” theme by using AI to automate a small, repetitive task.

 Demo

Watch the demo to see LazyReply AI generate a polite reply and copy it with one click.

Watch the LazyReply AI demo

 Code

GitHub repository: https://github.com/chandrua138/lazyreply-ai

The repository contains the Python Flask backend, HTML interface, CSS styling, JavaScript functionality, and installation instructions.

 How I Built It

I built LazyReply AI using Python and Flask for the backend, HTML and CSS for the interface, and JavaScript for the interactive features.

The AI runs locally using Ollama and the Qwen2.5-Coder 3B model. When a user enters a message, the application sends it to the local model, receives a suggested reply, and displays it in the browser.

I chose a local model so I could experiment with AI without needing a paid hosted AI API for each request.

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation makes AI development more accessible to students and independent developers like me.

Using an open-weight model with local inference helped me build and test a working AI application on my own computer. It gave me the opportunity to learn how AI models can be integrated into a real web application without depending on a closed, hosted AI API for inference.

It also gives users more control over their data when messages are processed locally, provided the application and its configuration keep processing on the local machine.

 The Lazy Payoff

LazyReply AI reduces the effort of composing routine messages. Instead of writing every reply from scratch, users can enter a message, generate a suggestion, and copy it.

My goal is to make small daily tasks easier through simple, accessible AI.
